As much as people want to believe. Delta is obligated to giving shareholders the highest value. I’m sure the recent Boeing debacle didn’t help either.

The only detail that we actually know about the clause is that it eventually expires as Kirby stated, although he didn't say when...

Perhaps Delta and Airbus waited just long enough?

Congrats to Airbus, but yes I think the potential negative political optics about this need to be considered now that "America first" mantra is a priority in D.C.

No doubt the first 100 will replace 757s and domestic 767s ops. The second 100 will replace (some of) the 737-800s. I would expect a A320neo order to replace the rest of the 738s, A319 and the MDs as well. Delta is slowly turning into an all Airbus-fleet including the C-Series.

It's your own fault, Boeing. Time to quickly stop the Bombardier rant and dissociate from the Trump administration or you will loose more customers.

Congrats to Airbus. It's a great deal.

Didn't see any mention in the article if these will be built in HSV or TLS - guessing some of each would be needed to fill an order that large unless DL is taking them at a slow rate

As I've said in past threads, this is a win for the flying customer. Some don't appreciate the cabin width surplus on the airbus, but I do. I spend alot of time on delta narrowbody jets every year. I far prefer the thought of being on airbus and c-series than the 737 family. I know boeing still has the orders to justify the 737 line, but it's a very tired dog to me.

LUCKY Delta Flight Attendants ! I sure wish we (at UNITED) ordered Airbus narrowbodies. I love working them , especially the A319s ! Can't stand working of 737s. I am happy though that we will be working to Tahiti from my home (and home base) of San Francisco. But still, would MUCH, MUCH rather work on Airbuses than 37s !! Hands down !

one thing I want to say guys. Just because delta went airbus, doesn't mean it's payback for the bombardier trade complaint. Delta was still ordering significantly from airbus prior. While the complaint definitely did boeing no favors, this could have still easily went airbus.

As I indicated in the RFP thread, I think this is less an Airbus order, and more a P&W GTF order. Between these NEO’s and the CSeries order, Delta is setting itself up to be a major MRO for the GTF engines. If the GTF was an engine option for the 737MAX, I think Boeing would have stood a much better chance in this contest.

Agreed on your FA perspective, but love the 737 much much more from a pilot perspective. But then again, it's all subjective to our personal opinions anyway.

Wasn't that supposed to be between the smaller A320neo/737-8MAX? As mentioned this looks more like a 757 replacement, which is about time anyway. Although if I'm not mistaken the A319/A320 aren't any younger.
I still see some room for a CS300 here. Maybe 50 of them. The one currently in Atlanta just seems strange otherwise.

The Mobile FAL will paint a lot of red deltas on their planes in the next 7-8 years.

it would be nice to see some of these fitted for JFK-LAX/SFO/SEA with flatbed seating. Although I was just on a DL 757 transcon, the interior of the plane looked brand new and fresh.

I couldn't agree more . This is a big win for passengers and flight attendants alike. Assuming these aircraft are configured like DL's current 321's, the wider seats and mid-lav alone make this aircraft far more desirable than a 737.

Just looked at delta's A321 seat map. With the new door arrangement they could possibly go from 20 - 29 - 143 = 192 to 20 - 36 - 143 = 199 by installing 7 Y+ seats where doors 2 used to be. Or as their 757 highest configuration 20 - 29 - 150 = 199. Does Delta usually have 4 or 5 FA on the A321/757? I'm asking because of the 20 first class seats and the increased service/time those Pax get.

Wow, I'm definitely gonna fly Delta more. I have a lot of respect for a company that doesn't allow itself to be bullied by hypocritical and petty suppliers.
No doubt some of these will be built in Mobile so some people can put their cross faces and little red striped flags away.

As I said in the other thread, I don't understand all the America first comments, current political climate or otherwise. DL isn't going to take a worse deal just so they can fly American products. At the end of the day, there are three global US carriers, so passengers don't really have a ton of choice. Want to fly within the Southeast, you're best options are DL and AA, and both have sizable Airbus fleets.

That’s one way of looking at it I guess, but I would say not so surprising considering the current political climate. Considering things such as the C Factor as Leeham had it. The supposed Trump factor may have also been the opposite of what they thought considering his stance from a few days ago on the ME3.
