The traffic is also very seasonal. From June to September is the super high season. TLN is the closest and fastest access to the famous resort St Tropez but during the rest of the year, Toulon is a dead city and traveling via MRS or NCE is easy.

Yet it's surprising FR has not tapped into this market. Many other small French cities have FR service (Brive, Lorient, Dinard, Tours, etc.). If FR offered a €10 flight to London, they would certainly fill their planes!

No, Aigle Azur has been a mostly regular carrier for a while now. They mainly operated routes to Algeria from Paris and other big french airports (Lyon, Marseille, Lille, Basel/Mulhouse etc...) and then to Portugal or Mali. Now ZI is lauching a new kind of destinations such as main european metropolis like Moscow, Berlin or Milan.

Of course... they would fill their planes with passenger’s tickets paid by the local taxpayers...
And actually, Ryanair used to fly to TLN from London STN and DUB until 2015... when the Chamber of Commerce and Industry who was running the airport at that time refused to increase the subsidies paid to FR for operating their flights... so the « airline » closed their routes and left.

If only more airports could act that way... !

Great, thanks. I didn't know that.

I wonder if they will make it. I think there is definitely room for more players on the Parisian market.

Taxpayer money used to attract carriers has positive consequences on local businesses and jobs. So why not?

Taxpayers money must be used for public services. Not to finance private interests or companies like FR who don’t create local obs.
If Ryanair wants to do some business in and out of TLN, why don’t they do just like other airlines ? Air France, TUI Fly, City Jet and all the others don’t receive 1 single € to operate their flights.

Indirect jobs are created when you bring people somewhere, not just at the airline.

Taxpayer money also builds airports in France. What if nobody flies there?

Wrong! FR never flew DUB-TLN. Great point btw, turn away a potential customer at your small regional airport possibly resulting in the airports closure. I’m sure you say the same about the subsidies the few US airports get for their transatlantic flights too or do you not care because they’re not flown by FR?

It looks like the PSO route operated by TwinJet on Paris Orly-Perigueux is going to end on 29 June and no airline will operate it after this date. This would mean Perigueux airport would no longer have any regular passenger flights
Anybody know anything more on this ?

Minor news but seems like flight numbers for KE have changed starting today.

KE 902 CDG-ICN became KE 910
KE 901 ICN-CDG became KE 909
KE 5902 CDG-ICN became KE 5910 (AF codeshare)
KE 5901 ICN-CDG became KE 5909 (AF codeshare).

Could this mean KE is planning new service to Europe ?

From the schedule, it looks like the aircraft is based in LYS. Is it to optimize utilization early in the morning and late evening?

An invitation to tender was published on 04 July 2018 for the French domestic route Paris Orly - Agen which survives on a PSO subsidy. The new subsidy would start on 07 Jan 2019

The last 2 domestic routes within mainland France where a PSO tender was invited were Paris-Lannion and Paris-Perigueux; both routes have been dropped and neither Lannion and Perigueux have scheduled flights to anywhere any more. Agen has good train service to Bordeaux and Toulouse - are we likely to see Agen becoming yet another 'zombie' airport at the start of 2019 ?

If Ryanair wants to do some business in and out of TLN, why don’t they do just like other airlines ? Air France, TUI Fly, City Jet and all the others don’t receive 1 single € to operate their flights.

Indirect jobs are created when you bring people somewhere, not just at the airline.

Taxpayer money also builds airports in France. What if nobody flies there?

Some would argue there are too many airports in France with no hope of getting meaningful service. Precisely because they have been built with taxpayers' money, without considering the business case.

Good point. So what? Nobody tries to make it work? Airport closes? No new jobs? Not a very positive outlook. If subsidies can make the airport (and all its related industry) work, why be so opposed to the idea?
