Spicejet is looking to start MAN-DEL next April SG061/062 with ex-Emirates B77W. Likely to hold off Air India at MAN for now.

Marking your territory again I see. Are you actually capable of discussing anything without cheerleading MAN in the process?
CaliguyNYC wrote:Why would AI do this? I doubt they will get any premium pax on BHX-ATQ. THe BHX-DEL-ATQ routing is much better for them. IT feeds their hub and gives what ever premium demand there is between BHX and DEL more frequencies. Plus I bet many VFR from the UK going to ATQ takes advantage of AI's free stopover in DEL to visit relatives / shop there as well (similar to how many Gujaratis tend to stop in BOM for a few days then head to Gujarat). Let a LCC or charter fly BHX-ATQ.

It was the original poster who mentioned MAN-DEL, I expanded some information for them, so get back in your box, if you don’t like what I put then don’t read it. At least I contribute with valid info, rather than people like you who think they are ‘contributing’ by attacking and snide remarks.

Large Sikh population around Birmingham, with the holiest temple (gurdwara) for Sikh in Amritsar, there you go.
And I believe there used to be flights b/t ATQ and BHX (and LHR), but those ended in favor of the current routing (BHX-DEL-ATQ).

This is wishful thinking on part of Bombay hub - Delhi hub wallah's.
I have not confirmed it myself, but someone knowledgable mentioned that LH no longer has a daily FRA-BOM flights. This along with the fact that ME3 traffic has been growing show good indication of people prefering a 1-stop journery.

So is LH planning to start flights to Vadodara instead by getting out of Bombay according to your knowledgeable source ?

Not just about being Sikh, maybe most of Sikhs live in BHX, come from ATQ region. I know airlines like Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan Airways, transfer a bit of PAX from UK to ATQ/DEL.
So far LH operates daily to BOM on a 747. LH seems pretty successful in India, wish see them restart HYD or Kolkata.

In general, AI non-stops are making money by commanding a premium on Y (over 1-stop competitors) than depending on J traffic.
ATQ is probably a cheaper airport than DEL. The state government may incentivize a non-stop.
Also if AC provides onward connections to Canada, better for everyone, Sikh community, AI and AC.

Can concurred about Turkmenistan. At least Google said so (Try typing in "Birmingham Amritsar" and the first suggestion would be Turkmenistan. In another word, there has to be a fair amount of people actually searching for that ).

Was Surprised, people actually flew Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan Airways, from Europe to India.

Not all Punjab bound passengers would prefer ATQ - its for passengers heading to Western half of punjab. For all others, DEL is a much better airport to connect. There are a direct overnight bus-taxi home drop services catering to this crowd - IndoCanadian is a major operator in this segment.

NO!
I meant operating BOM-LHR-EWR with 787 and AMD-BOM operated with A321 with same flight number. This will cut BOM-EWR time by 4 hours and allow shorter(fastest) direct connections from TRV, COK, CCJ, CJB, IXE, BLR.

This would make sense considering LH is really pushing its MUC hub in recent years. Also BOM-MUC is A359 while BOM-FRA is on an older B744 (they send the B748 to BLR). However AFAIK BOM-FRA still seems daily. Will LH announce such a reduction soon?

I was surprised myself also. Consider that the only other destination in India outside of ATQ for both Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan is DEL. Especially surprised about Turkmenistan Airlines, consider that Turkmenistan is definitely more close-off compare to the other "stans".

LH is sending the 748 daily to BOM currently. Not sure it is just for the winter.
