UA adding service to Elmira
There new schedule came it and it has service again from Newark to Elmira. They just discontinued the service not even a year ago (Nov 29, 2016) and made a big deal about how that route was losing them money, why would they start up a route that they recently stopped?

Previous service was not to EWR (it was ORD) and it was discontinued on April 2016 not November.

I give up, it shows the population at under 7,000 in the town and 29,000 in surrounding communities. Is that worth even 1x a week service?

(2010) 29,200; Elmira Metro Area, 88,830.
(2016) 27962 Elmira, Metro area 90700.
Where did you get your numbers?

I'm not sure where you got those numbers. The city's population is about 28,000 and the metro area (Chemung County) is about 90,000. That does not include nearby Corning which is the headquarters of Corning Inc, (formerly Corning Glass Works). Corning alone used to feed a lot of business to ELM.

I'm outside of Ithaca and have flown out of ELM several times so add some Tompkins County residents to the count.

I'd bet it still does, as DTW-ELM has been 5x daily CR7s for several years now (it was one of the first small markets to benefit from the trend of upgauging from CR2s to CR7s/CR9s, presumably because the demand is there for the front cabin).

Just went on UA's web site and service starts April 19 2018. 2 daily flights to EWR.
