Saudi Airlines AB6 / Airbus a300-600

Sat Nov 18, 2017 10:10 pm

This morning my family is travelling to jeddah from lahore through Saudi Airlines SV3633.

On tickets and flightstats I have observed that equipement is AB6 / Airbus a300-600.

To me Saudi Airline has stored all of its a300-600s by 2011 and no more in operations. Is that common for airlines to bring a stored equipement back to lofe considering additional load?

Is that allowed by civil aviation or concerned authorities? To me concerning factor is safety as well.

Looking at FR24 I'm seeing that the SV3633 appears to be a rather ad-hoc flight - cancelled on 14/11, then shown as an A300-600 for a 1445 departure on 19/11 and an A332 for a 1930 departure also on 19/11 - except that that A332 is shown as being TC-OCG of Onur Air, which will be departing JED for LHE as SV3532 in about eight hours.

My fairly-solid guess here is that the schedule has been loaded for these flights without being changed from the old equipment, not that SV has brought the A300 back into service.

As to whether the airline is allowed to bring stored aircraft back into service - why shouldn't they? If the aircraft is airworthy and can be crewed by competent persons how is it any different to dry-leasing, or purchasing second-hand?

Maybe AB6 is not referring to the IATA aircraft type, rather a internal seat configuration for a types that has multiple passenger seating configurations like the A320 or A330.

It might mean fo example A320 with the 6 business seats, rather than the A320 with 20 business seats internally in their system.

I've had this twice in the past and on both occasions it has been an Onur Air A330-200. Saudia lease 6 of these from Onur Air so AB6 is likely their internal code for these aircraft.

So well did you ask your family on which aircraft they were on?

In the morning I gone through JED-LHE flights and figured out that SV3532 was outbound for SV3633 with TC-OIC A332 and wiped out my whole anxiety. I kept on checking FR24 and it remained same.

Thanks for awesome explanation. I dont know much of technicalities except fond of travelling on nice aircrafts quite frequently. I always try to keep my bookings on youngest fleet while travelling so I try to do with my family. I put my family on 77W on same day other flight but unfortunately Saudi Airlines automatically cancelled them and put them on new schedule
