On day 1 Emirates ordered 40 Boeing 787 Dreamliners in a deal worth about $15bn (£11.3bn) at list prices.

Azerbaijan Airlines said it was buying five Dreamliners, as well as two Boeing freighters, in a deal worth an estimated $2bn.

The 787 has done quite well in the ME overalll: TK, RJ, MS, SV, GF, QR, EY, EK and OM. Almost a full house, apart from KU (and IR).

As the TK order is for 20 aircraft (plus 20 options), the number would be 156 orders.

Boeing press release for Flydubai order

http://boeing.mediaroom.com/2017-11-15- ... -Airplanes

interestingly MAX 9 was also ordered
Signed at the 2017 Dubai Airshow in flydubai's hometown, the agreement includes a commitment for 175 MAX airplanes, and purchase rights for 50 additional MAXs. When finalized, the purchase promises to sustain tens of thousands of direct and indirect jobs in Boeing's U.S. factories and network of suppliers.

More than 50 of the first 175 airplanes will be 737 MAX 10s, the newest and largest member of the 737 MAX family. The MAX 10 will have the lowest seat-mile cost of any single-aisle airplane ever produced. flydubai said the balance of the initial airplane order will be made up of the popular MAX 8 and MAX 9, giving the carrier a family of airplanes with high commonality and low operating costs.

Unlike other ME3 airlines, SV has almost no transit market. Do they need the capacity of 779?

The 777-9 is only four frames longer than a 777-300ER which works out to 2.6m. As such, we're talking one extra row of Business (4-7 seats) and one extra row of Economy (10 seats). If an airline is comfortable with the Average Load Factor of a 777-300ER, they will be comfortable with the ALF of a 777-9.

The capacity of the 777-9X is really not much different than the 77W.
The 777X actually has a lower exit limit than the 77W and the same MTOW.

Isn't that part of the problem? Acquisition and engine PBTH costs are in a different ballpark for those extra seats.

Jet Airways is interested in the MAX 10, so I am assuming we should hear an order of mixed Max 8 and Max 10 by them.

There has been talks since a while that Saudia and Vistara are interested in the 777 X, but well we will just have to wait.

Well fuel burn will be significantly less, and that is probably the largest component of an airframe's total operating costs.

Boeing is done for this Airshow.

Wrap-up press release:

"Boeing Wins Landmark Deals, Highlights Broad Portfolio at Dubai Airshow"

Announced 296 commercial jet orders and commitments, valued at about $50 billion

“This has been a very successful show for Boeing. Our regional customers have maintained their trust in our products and technology, and our partnerships in the Middle East region continue to grow,” said Bernard Dunn, President, Boeing Middle East, North Africa and Turkey. “We signed agreements with key airline partners including Emirates, flydubai, Azerbaijan Airlines, ALAFCO and Ethiopian Airlines. In addition, Egyptair became a new customer for the 787. Finally, the airshow was a great opportunity to introduce our newest business unit, Boeing Global Services, to the Middle East market and reiterate the region’s importance to Boeing.”

The continued growth of the Middle East aviation market was underscored by customers in the region announcing orders and commitments for 296 airplanes - including 50 options - with a value of about $50 billion at list prices.

Saj Ahmed at Strategic Aero Research and Daniel Tseng at Seeking Alpha both claimed the 787 was a "done deal" with Emirates over the past year.

Once Boeing announced a production rate increase, more both within and without a.net started feeling that EK (amongst others) had chosen the 787 as such orders would help justify the rate increase.

I was under the impression that SV ordered 77W for range. But now, they have the option of 789 for that range, which I thought would be more suited for them. I could be silly, but that SV round trip I took from Paris had easily the lowest load factor I have ever seen on a widebody. It was like 3 passengers on J and 15 passengers on Y. I can't judge based on that round trip of course, I was just asking.

I did expect an order from FlyDubai, but not so many aircrafts, I did expect some 789's

Given that FJ and EK has recently formalised their relationship, what made you think the junior partner would have a need for wide-bodied long-haul aircraft, 'invading' the senior partners territory?

SCAT Airlines really have an awkward name I would have expected a change of name by now as surely the meaning of the name has been made apparent to it's owners!

I recall someone always insisted about Emirates ordering 787-10. Who was it?

Saj Ahmed at Strategic Aero Research and Daniel Tseng at Seeking Alpha both claimed the 787 was a "done deal" with Emirates over the past year.

Once Boeing announced a production rate increase, more both within and without a.net started feeling that EK (amongst others) had chosen the 787 as such orders would help justify the rate increase.

Re: production increase and Emirates

I am sorry, but a production increase cannot be specifically associated to Emirates 787-10 order. Many other airlines could potentially order a lot of 787-10 (and 787-9).

People now try to explain why Emirates orders the 787-10. Suddenly everything becomes "obvious" for those who try today to explain the rationale of Emirates' choice. Why could they not speak out earlier? Should we today accept that the "obvious" rationale on Emirates' choice explained by some people here and there as valid for many other airlines?

Even Emirates order is not enough to justify the production rate increase. So what's the truth?
