For those who don't know, Johan Lundgren was the person that started Airliners.net. I have been on this site (different username) since 1997. Back in the AOL dialup days!

Ditto.....Been a member since 98 and I definitely recall A.Net’s early days under Mr Lundgren.

Good Luck, Johan

Interesting: upcoming airline manager/executive by day, web site hacker by night.

Glad to hear he's doing so well!

Congratulations, Johan!

So from Airliners.net to the CEO of Easy Jet, that is pretty cool. Does he still posts on here?

easyJet's Johan Lundgren has 30 years experience in the travel industry, while airliners.net's Johan Lundgren was an IT student in Lulea 20 years ago (who apparently did not finish university, but, so I understand, went on to work more or less full time on a.net until he sold it in 2007). Doesn't really fit.

I have my doubts too... Not that any of us armchair Ceos would not make a good real life one...

Its not the same Johan. A.net Johan is now ~40, so he would have to start working for the airlines at the age of 10.

Just maybe. :wink2:

The name is probably the Swedish equivalent of John Smith in the UK.

Almost at least, there are 20 376 persons called Lundgren in Sweden, making it the 28th most common surname, and the 8th most common surname not ending in -son. And Johan is a very popular first name.

Wow thats a revelation. Frankly, Johan was a mystery to many here as kept a fairly low profile. I personally do not recall seeing any photos of him posted anywhere, nor was I aware of his age range.

I thought the other Tui stalwart - Chris Browne, would have got this.

But good luck to Johan.

Will Stelios like him though???

Aww, and we were having so much fun imaging a web site hacker becoming CEO of easyJet!

Hey, leave me out of this!

In any case, I miss many features of "his" forum software. Yes, I know he just modified some one else's code but it did a bunch of things no other forum software did.

Dont think it matters much as he is not the majority owner anymore. Stellios has pretty much been against everything easyjet management has done for the past 6 or 7 years.

Not really. Henrik was the secretive/reclusive one.

Johan participated in a few of the early self-pic threads, and turned up elsewhere as well.

No the real deal is Sean Mendis who went from poster to running an airline in Africa.

Haha when I first read the title I thought "wow I wonder if this sets some sort of record for youngest airline CEO" but alas it didn't turn out to be him. I joined in 2004 after having read the forums since late 2001 but I remember reading back then that Johan was a university student in Sweden at the time. Speaking of a.net members going off and doing things in the industry I seem to recall years ago a member was either one of the owners or on the board of Arkia airlines in Israel. Anyone remember that far back?

He's run several airlines (in both Africa and the Middle East) in fact.

But then again, it's not like he was some random poster who got picked to run an airline.
He comes from a family well connected to aviation, and pursued that goal for himself in both his education and occupation. Awesome that he made it happen.

you'd be surprised to find out who posts/lurks here, a bunch of us at a conference were talking about this site and rec.travel.air. Was surprised to find out even some Wall Street analysts used to post here. Sean isn't the only one who is/was in a high level role. Sean + 2 other users on this site were behind the other bid for TWA when AA announced DIP financing.

I still remember the Self Pic thread when a spotter in the UK outted herself as a girl and I swore everyone on here, well. It was hilarious. I forgot her screen name, but I swear people were asking her to marry her just off her pic.

And then of course Scottysai... um. Can we even say his name? Although I believe Cubsrule found him as a person posting with a single character as a username.

But, it wouldn't surprise me if Johan is in the business and in a good spot in the food chain.

He's still around, and active on quite a few Fbook aviation groups, particularly PHX Spotters.

I had the exact same thought as everyone else--"our" Johan?! And yeah, this site used to be nuts back in the day; I think a.net should produce a snow globe in commemoration of 25 years whenever that happens...
Johan, if you're out there, hope you're doing well.

Scotty has been annoying flyertalk community since he's been banned here on a.net. On FT he has something like 50 000 posts. But all of them are useless and annoying. There he's under DL767400 or something like that.

Met B747-437B (Sean) once in BOM in a planned a.net meet in 2004. Very down to earth and simple person.

A lot has changed since the early days....

I miss Mendis and MrNiji. However, a lot of the others I am glad they are gone and long gone.

This site is actually better, especially in the Non aviation subsection. They are actually a few conservatives! Back in the day it was quite different.

Fair enough, but I'm just wondering if anything will change. Everybody seems to agree Alex Cruz is changing BA a lot, so why not Johan?

Wow. A post turns into a walk down memory lane. And yes, site has definitely changed from the early days for the worse.

Saludos,

Don't be sorry, its not your fault, Johan Lundgren will make a mistake if he does not orders some CS300

This site is actually better, especially in the Non aviation subsection.

You're certainly a minority in that regard. This site is a shell of what it once was.

Wow, this went wildly off topic.

Not really, considering that the OP was completely mistaken....

So tell me where I was completely mistaken? I only posted that Johan Lundgren was appointed CEO for easyJet. This is important to me as an employee of EZY... I guess you did not take the time to read most of this, because if you did, you would have known, that I had nothing to do with posts confusing the new CEO with someone from airliners.

To get back to the topic at hand, does anyone know anything about this guy, besides the fact that he came from TUI?

No he wasn't, 777222LR came up with that story. OP was just sharing the news. But I think you know what I meant, I was trying to get this thread back to a serious conversation.

TBH I think they are doing well at the moment. Maybe a bigger presence would be good in Scandinavia, although I realise this is Norwegian turf and it appears to be a tricky market. Seeing the fleet replacement, less and less 319s around and 321neo's on order seems positive, however I agree with the other poster about the CS300, seems like a good fit on thinner routes. However this reduces flexibility a lot and I don't think u2 are keen on changing this. They have enough on their plate as it is with Brexit, the AB take-over and heavy competition from VY, W6, FR and DY.
