Last 3 major MD-80 US operators all in one place!

Sun Oct 15, 2017 9:12 pm

Hello all!

Unfortunately I didn’t have my good camera for this moment but this pic will definitely do! Delta, American and Allegiant all had an MD-80 on the ground at the same time in GSP today! Here is the pic:

Definitely a moment to appreciate!!! It also got me thinking, are there any other airports in the US that still see regularly scheduled service from Delta, American and Allegiant that all use the MD-80?

Thanks!

Nice catch! Sad though AAL is retiring their last MD-80s.

As an AA frequent flier, thank god. I've had enough with those damn maintenance delays.

We flew out of GSP this very morning! Our current home airport MKE has all 3, now that G4 has begun service (though unsure what type they'll be flying here).

American, Delta, and Allegiant all do operate MD-80 planes to and from CVG.

Not the US, but at CCS you see MD80s of at least 4 passenger airlines every day.

Take it easy on the exclamation points remarks! I’ve seen it lots of times here when people are passionate about a topic! Dropping that topic, it’s sad to see these planes that were once some of the most common slowly dwindling down in fleet sizes! Enjoy the noise while you can of those JT8s!

Possibly LAX or LAS. Not sure if AA still flies the MD80s there and don't care enough to look it up.

Nope, no AA or DL MD80s at LAX.

That is a great pic. I worked an 80 charter into SEA a few weeks ago and the ground crew were beside themselves. They hadn't seen one in years and were taking pictures all over the place. Oh, and please use as many exclamation marks as you would like. This is a site about a love of commercial aviation (at least that's what it used to be). Those with grammatical sensitivities need to chill. This is the only place where i can feel like a kid again. And kids get excited!!!

agreed. people get so caught up in the dumbest things. Who really cares? I think the picture is cool - it's a pic of the end of an era. I get the excitement. To the OP - thanks for sharing, it's a cool pic!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's great. Imagine if you had 717's, MD-80's and 90's in one pic. That would really be something.

There was one in 2013/14 that had a DL 717, DC-9-50, MD-80, and MD-90.

How can you tell someone to take it easy on the exclamation points when you yourself ended every sentence in your post with one?

I think MCI still sees AA and DL MD-80s. Not 100% sure about Allegiant though.

What a sight!

Here in AUS we only see American (one daily from DFW, three daily from ORD) and Allegiant MD80s (on several routes), and I've gotten a chance to see them pretty close, around noon is when I've seen 'em; Delta used to send a mix of MD88s and MD90s, then just MD90s, then none of them...

However, we do get a handful of their 717s which are more common now than in years before.

Yes we do, AA to DFW and DL to ATL, DTW, and MSP depending on the season. Not too long ago, AA was all MD to DFW and ORD out of here. Such isn't the case anymore.

I know. ORD-MCI is lucky to see 1x daily mainline on AA nowadays.
