I've been pondering what could happen to that DC-8 for years, whether it could be saved and was really disappointed when Air NZ didn't take the chance for their 75th anniversary or when the 787-9 of the same registration was delivered. Unfortunately they don't seem to be supporting this effort either (yet), would have thought there was a good bit of PR in it. The DC-8, the first jet aircraft for TEAL/Air NZ, really was significant for opening up NZ, with Air NZ going from trans-Tasman and the Coral Route to adding Japan and the US, setting the foundation for what the 787s do today. Tourism is still the #1 industry. Oh, and the DC-8 is a great looking aircraft
On the NZ Aviation thread at the start of this year there was a bit of chat about where old NZ airliners ended up. Great to see someone has taken the initiative and is trying to make the dream a reality! For the DC-8, it's NZ$50,000 needed in four weeks to secure the aircraft, after talks with the owners of Manaus airport (according the the videos and posts with the donate/givealittle link on their Facebook page)

So does this mean they will de-assemble ZK-NZC and put her on a ship and then reassemble when back in NZ? Can't imagine those engines will spool up again after 10 years. How does one go about this Without damaging the airframe? Thoughts?

Speaking of which I suppose all the DC10s are long since gone. Would I be right?

I think this was to be scrapped at Southend in August.

Such clement climates for storage!
