IMO (that stands for In MY Opinion in case anyone wants to rip me a new one)

The current LH livery sends out a powerful statement to the passenger. "We at Lufthansa aren't really bothered about making our planes look gaudy and flashy as we would rather concentrate on efficiency and the experience inside the fuselage".

It's smart, timeless businesslike and deliberate.

I could dig a change from white fuselage to silverish grey like NW had. Picture their planes but with a blue tail instead of read. Now that'd be a nice sight, without being a major change to their "timeless brand".

I agree!

The white isn’t timeless. The fuselage needs some color, especially the front. Most airlines that do add color only do the back 1/3 + tail.

I’m a huge fan of grays in general, but their bellies look so dingy overall. I’m not knocking the airline, I really like them, but they won’t lose their identity by putting a fresh, colorful and classy livery on.

They won’t lose a single customer over it, but it would be much more exciting to watch at the airport or as it comes overhead for landing.

The LH livery is part of their corporate identity and brand awareness. There will be livery updates but certainly not a new livery like ACs Delta2.0

It started in a forum where somebody dug out some design studies from 2015 ordered by a magazine. Nobody who would actually know, would be free to deny or confirm this at this point.

I agree its about time.
I would replace the white with LH yellow. New modern Logo font ALL UPPER CASE. And a extended tail design like AA.

You are welcome to share your definition of Eurowhite, as everyone has one. Grey belly doesn't change the fact that the fuselage is mostly devoid of color. And every company has a painted tail. LX and QF are 2 other eurowhite liveries most people here love, all white save for the tail.

Skyliner showing D-ABYA 747-8 ferried to Rome for painting into a new livery. Still speculation or confirmed? I'd read a rumour a slightly revised livery was being announced first week of February

LH's livery looks on good all their birds. Some liveries look good on wide bodies and crap on narrows, and vice versa. Don't screw it up, LH!

I can't begin to tell you how much I agree with you. The wavy KLM change totally ruined the iconic look of the livery, it doesn't look good on any of their aircraft and completely takes away from the overall branding. I hope one day soon the marketing team realizes this.

I have heard that it's just going to be a variation of the current one. The yellow of the logo will disappear and be replaced by silver, much like the logo of their business class lounge. Official presentation should be on February 8th or 9th

I'm certainly in the "don't touch it" camp. I think the existing livery looks as good and contemporary as ever - a true testament to it's designer three decades ago.

Rendering with the existing livery on the 777X prove to me that this is not an action worth taking for LH.

Whenever I think of a new revised livery for Lufthansa, It needs to have the exact same concept as the original livery they had for a while, but it has more of a KLM look to it. The curves on the side of the fuselage, maybe a metallic finish to the paint, and a belly logo.

Wow, I totally disagree! I think the KLM 747 with the new "wavy" look is stunning. The best livery out there. It's gorgeous. Hopefully LH can do the same, keep their timeless look but at the same time freshen it up a little.

It would be interesting to see what kind of Frankensteins's monster would result from a designer trying to accommodate everyone's preferences for a new livery! :)
I like the current one well enough and I doubt any overhaul would be very radical. I always associate Lufthansa with professionalism and dependability so I hope that if they do change it significantly they don't go with something "playful" or "hip". There's a reason relatively plain liveries age well, IMO.

I hope the blue or yellow makes its way onto the fuselage a little bit.. would be a shame to see it without yellow and a plain white fuselage. Maybe the back end of the fuselage could be painted blue, similarly to the way AZ’s tail colors do.

Cheatlines look Soviet. Maybe mao-chic. It looks incredibly outdated and I am having trouble believing anyone complaining about KLM or UA's liveries (specifically on the 787 for UA) is under the age of 55.

I saw a rendering awhile ago of a livery for them. It looked very similar to their current livery but the titles were changed to billboard style. It actually looked fantastic on their A32S aircraft, too bad I can’t find it.

I like #1 but agree it should be moved up. Possibly billboard titles in the same font, #2 is eh, ok but change the font and go back to the original blue. As for #3, this is LH, not BMI. That looks like LH would be trying to rehash the old BMI scheme and frankly just sucks.

I'm also hoping for no wavy lines or cropped logos, also no additional logos placed awkwardly on the fuselage like Air Canada! The current livery is still nice but the grey belly is getting a little dated and I hate the way it's painted higher in front of the wing and lower behind it on some aircraft, only the A350 appears to have it low and level from nose to tail which makes it much sleeker.

I'd like to see a cheatline of sorts return, I miss when liveries were designed to complement the design of aircraft and their aerodynamic shape. Obviously times have moved on but most liveries these days are either wavy and exaggerated or flying billboards with minimalist logos and basic titles slapped on a white background.

The one thing I would change likely is the belly to be gray on the bottom. I could see a billboard-style Lufthansa title on the planes though.

90% of LH`s fuselage is boring Euro white, no 2 ways about it.
My input? Keep the iconic blue and yellow tail but spice up the white a tad.
They grey belly is cool, though!

BTW nothing wrong with KLM`s new livery.
It still stands out between all the other liveries worldwide!

Day or night, it`s good.....like in the following pic, still looking great as ever:

If it is a minor change, imho, they will just remove they grey from the belly.... maybe also adjust logo size on the tail.

BTW, it seems I am in the minority on this forum because I like the wavey lines like KL and UA.

Thoughts? What do you expect from LH?

So reading through the thread on airliners.de, there is nothing, absolutely nothing, more than somebody stating there will be a new "repaint hangar" at LEJ in 2018. Then somebody confused and misread the posting and thought it's about a new livery. That's how rumors start. And looking at this thread here, they're not exactly easy to be made undone.

Frankly, no.
SQ has been using the exact same livery since the 1780's it seems. And it works. It shows continuity. You get what you pay, and you know what you pay for.
LH has the exact same concept in that regard. They did try out a yellow livery on one aircraft (which was highly disliked by the pax). But other than changing from a chrome to a white belly, they kept their colours steady, which is a good thing in my opinion.
So it's not like I don't like the renderings. They actually look quite good. But it's always a question of "what does it symbolize?". And there I cannot follow anyone wanting a new livery for LH.
If you wanted to see how a new livery looks and performs on a LH jet, let CLH try a new outfit. The impact is smaller.

I like the silver titles in the 80s yellow livery. That plus a silver crane on the existing blue tail could work quite nicely IMO and give the brand a more luxurious feel (which seems to be something they are going for recently).

As much as I would like silver on a new LH livery, silver titles on white dont work. In many light conditions they would be hardly readable. That was one reason why it was turned down after testing the yellow experimental livery of 1988.

Read again, it's a bit confusing but moddin is referring to the revised livery, not the LEJ hangar situation. He doesn't refer to "next year" for the hangar because he doesn't even know if there was one at that point. That sentence is clearly about the new livery. Someone a few posts down also misterpreted it but it was clarified on the same page of that thread.
