pretty boring and unimaginative but not bad...i feel the same way about it as i did about AC's refresh. At least AC kept the red!

i think LH should have (maybe) extended the white stripe along the leading edge of the vertical tail along all edges of the vertical tail. I think it could have added a bit of pop to the, otherwise, boring tail. you can see what I mean below. Added stripe using MS paint

Kinda makes the tail stand out a bit, no?

Well, at least there is much less white on AC’s livery, which I still think manages to stick out somewhat. This looks like it could be any airline

Terrible, looks just like everything else out there. White, bland, boring. Seems to be the mantra these days.

This is actually my favorite tweak so far! Very refreshing and makes the bland livery more interesting.

I'm surprised nobody has taken note that the 748 is the livery's maiden aircraft and not the a380

.

I can't say I'm surprised, what were we expecting? Something distinct and creative? That's a rarity nowadays! (AC is one example) But it's not bad, just not impressive or eye-candy. It's a nice, formal look for an airline that means business.

As always, a livery can always be just one feature away from being drastically better, as many have demonstrated.

What a horrid livery.

This is United sans the gray belly. And I think its an objective fact that United’s livery is as bad as China Eastern or Air China. Now we can add Lufthansa to it.
At least they kept the crane. But still. So bad.
Sorry Lufthansa, but this doesnt come across as appealing or clean or even German.

It comes across as generic. Something I would say no airline should try to be.

Not exciting but classy and sleek, IMO. I wasn't especially attached to the yellow and I prefer the new shade of blue.

A nice clean design and a step forward from their current livery. With the yellow it looks very 20th century, I can understand why they got rid of it. Less is more. I like it!

I do agree on the not very appealing, but clean I would say it is. As for the "German" - well, it is a quite straightforward livery, no knickknack on it, and, to be honest, a little boring. I think that pretty much resembles the image of us Germans. Plus, I can very well imagine this one to last another 30 years like the current livery did.

I do agree that it would look slightly more sophisticated, but at the same time it would be even more similar to the abomination that is Joon:

I'm pretty sure that the Board of Directors (or whoever did the final decision) had ordered the designer to "Make it boring! We are a business not a Disneyland in the skies!"

And that is what they got. I, too, would have preferred a bit less white but at least this is something where the eyes can rest upon, not some whacky accident in the paint shop. Please remember, the livery has to last at least 20 years!

Why oh why?! Lufthansa had the chance to do something new, vibrant and fresh, shake off that stuffy image and stand out as an airline looking forwards, setting itself apart from the others. Now they just look like a German arm of Qantas.

With this new livery, they have not joined the 21st century, they've gone back to the 90's!

Well spotted! At least Malév had the dark blue nose cone as a characteristic touch. To my eyes this brought some balance to the design: the blue on the nose echoed the colour on the empennage and thus made the aircraft look less tail-heavy.

LH more or less copying a twenty-year old MA livery... Who would have thought.

Hmm I feel like the font doesn’t really fit the elegant look they are trying to achieve and this livery looks way too much of a hybrid between several liveries now which is not a good thing. Anyway in my opinion, the new colors would have been ok if they had kept them to the tail and painted the belly and engines with the same blue color where it is grey today, made the logo yellow (and maybe added a thin yellow cheat line at the back of the tail like SQ and top of the blue belly and at the engine nacelles). This way the current logo font would still look appropriate.

I don't know who of Qantas or UTA came up with that Tail design, but it's one of the best ideas I've seen in past decades
( only leapfrogged by TG / LA designs... EY is the last example I can think of doing it differently... )

Yellow element is exactly what I have in mind. I am in advertising industry and we tend to avoid using two color in our artwork, aircraft is not an exception. People tend to associate two color masterpiece as something from Black & White printing era. So, three or more colors application is encouraged.

I don't do photoshop, but I think the crane can be yellow too, to add the presence of third color element. A bit more graphic detail (probably an oversized/cropped crane logo - similar to NW's tail prior to their merger) can be added as a background to make it look less "plain". Then add the yellow crane at the front of the title and that's it. But that's just my subjectivity, though.

I rather have bland and boring but classy than the "dolphin" swoosh with made the KLM livery cheap.

Looking at this again with a day's worth of not-thinking-about-it, I think what irks me more than the missing yellow is the font. It's no longer Helvetica (good), but it's really so close to Helvetica to hardly matter that they changed the font to begin with. So it looks a bit lacklustre. The tail is grand, classy, clean, not cheap-looking - and then you have the title at the front which basically looks like they said "why bother even changing anything here".

I agree with you on that. The swoosh on the front of the KLM livery just looks ridiculus on it's own. I would have been in favor of a more "Dreamliner-esque" swoop that flows over the entire fuselage.

But back to the Lufthansa livery. It reminds me of this quote:

It's a sentiment I agree with, but if they took away anything more, there would hardly be anything left.

I personally don’t miss the yellow as blue and yellow is a colour combination that doesn’t work for me unless it’s something Swedish like IKEA where it is understandable, it just doesn’t look very nice to me. What bothers me with this livery is they did their thing on the tail and otherwise it’s all white, all of it. People are comparing it to a year ago when Air Canada released theirs, but this is far plainer than that. Air Canada’s has tail again with the logo and colours of paint, but it also has black engines with a logo, black belly with a logo, black mask, and the usual font, but again with a logo. This Lufthansa is just white, white, white with a band of blue at the back. The previous livery didn’t excite me whatsoever, but it had more colour than this despite having very little colour.

The new one looks more professional than rainbow happy liveries.
I love ANA themed ones for example but they are there besides the standard one.
Well thought minimalism will stand against time vs doodley doo's that look bleh after you see them for a week or two.
And I agree about KLM. On some birds it just looks ugly.

That is a nice quote. And it is appropriate here. I think the new livery will easily grow on us, and in a few years we will not know any better than that this is quite a good livery. Even though it is nothing special, which might be just the trick that does it.
