GLO was great. I enjoy flying the SF34. Flew their inaugural from SHV-MSY. It seems the concept of using a company to use their aircraft & crew does not work very well (ie PEOPLExpress, GLO, etc).

Shame that Silver didn't get any traction at PIE before they launched their intended flights. If they had some feeds from the Southeast US (BHM, MSY, CHS, etc) it may have been successful.

Love that PIE-AVL is going to daily. Timing is better as well. Used to be a Sunday morning departure, but now early afternoon.

Would imagine this will greatly reduce the likelihood of 3M adding TPA-AVL.

But hey...G4 is coming !

AA adding seasonal DFW-SRQ service starting Dec. 19. This will be the first westbound flight for the airport that has pretty much been a north-south operation for many years now.

Hopefully for SRQ the DFW flight will become year round since AA dropped 2 CLT flights this spring. Also UA will add a second daily EWR flight in October. This means 4 daily flights (2 Chicago, 2 New York) on UA from SRQ in the fall and winter, is this the most UA ever at SRQ?

AA - This is not correct. They normally drop from 5 to 3 CLT flights. Although last year, they added a CLT flight in July & August. This year, they dropped from 5 to 4, and they will maintain 4 CLT flights. I would only trust that schedule through early September, however currently, October is showing 4 CLT flights.

UA - The big news is that they are maintaining both ORD & EWR flights during summer/fall. I currently don't see a 2nd ORD flight yet, but I assume it is coming. If so, then yes, this will be the most DAILY UA has had since they returned in 2012. When they were here previously, I believe they had 5 at one point.

AA will be starting SRQ-ORD on Dec 19

UA will upgrade SRQ-EWR to 3 flights. As of now, only appears to be during the holidays.
Don't know if it will return in Feb/March

UA will add a 2nd flight SRQ-ORD flight. As of now, I'm only seeing it during the holidays.

Earlier this month G4 started PGD-BNA

Westjet's new subsidiary, SWOOP will fly to TPA. Not sure from where.

WN does have opportunities to add seasonal nonstop service to RSW from LAX, PHX, and OAK since Greater Los Angeles, Greater Phoenix, and the San Francisco Bay Area are the top three markets without any nonstop service to RSW.

So June 15th the Senior VP, COO of Sarasota stated that Allegiant was bringing in an extra 8,000 passengers per month. Now at this point that is only about 2 months since the start of service in April 11 or 13th, so what do you guys think for the possible loads. With 6 weekly round trip flights that ends up to being about 307 round trip passengers. Each week 2 of the flights are on A319 - 156 seats, and 4 are on A320 - 177 seats, so the loads look pretty good.

Now I have been looking at google flights for some cheap flights on my days off from SRQ, American and Delta are really trying to match prices to PIT, CVG, and IND with connections. Right now that doesn't look like its having much of an effect on Allegiant as round trips are still about the same price as when they launched the routes. Do you think at one point there will be more of a price pressure on Allegiant if they launch more flights and the other airlines start competing?

As for American to ORD, I have not heard anything about that route on the news in SRQ other then the DFW flight. That's really exciting for me as flights to Chicago are ridiculous pricey!!! The cheapest flight I can find is $377 round trip on United, a month ago they were $450 for flights anytime this summer, but if I were to fly to Philadelphia with a connection in ORD I have seen $212-$250 round trip tickets. American and Delta are not even trying to be competitive on flights to Chicago.

Excited to see the IND-SRQ flights back, back in the AirTran days, there used to be 100-150 PDEW flying that route during Q1 so there is enough demand to sustain these flights.

Finally the AA Chicago flight shows up in the news. Unfortunately, it is daily seasonal on E-175. I hope that this and the DFW flight will become year round at one point. Both will be Dec 19 to April 1. December 19th will definitely be a busy day at SRQ!

Looks like this depends on days and times...it varies

Anyone know why PIE only has 2 jetways?

Overall cost of constructing and adding more plus space is a bit limited at the terminal we have now. There are plans to add more but that will be a bit farther down the road.

Delta finally started using the new gates at SRQ. So far 2 gates have been installed and it took at least 1.5 months. Does it usually take that long to install gates? Although its awesome that they have 2 glass panels at each end I wish they were all glass!
Also yesterday a Delta 717 got bumped in the engine yesterday, not sure by who, but they were testing the engine around 3 am, the flight previous night got cancelled and a replacement was flow in. Plus 2 diversions Jet Blue to Ft Myers and Delta to Miami, previously I have seen diversions at SRQ and after 15-20 min they departed again, wouldn't it be cheaper to circle around the destination airport?

Picked Dec 23rd as a day to check flights for SRQ. I haven't seen this many flights since the early and mid 90's

28 flights on this day. I'm sure the extra capacity is due to the holidays. While 28 flights isn't a lot for TPA, it's fairly significant for SRQ

NYC - 6 DL, B6, UA
ATL - 7 DL
DTW - 1 DL
ORD - 3 AA, UA
DFW - 1 AA
CLT - 4 AA
DCA - 1 AA
YYZ - 1 AC
BOS - 1 B6
CVG - 1 Allegiant
PIT - 1 Allegiant
PWM - 1 Elite

I've been meaning to put that out there....on the 15th and 16th, UA will have 3X to EWR and 3X to ORD

DL will have 4 departures between 12 and 1

DL will have
7 ATL
1 DTW
1 JFK
2 LGA
-------------
11

After Jan 2...a lot of that disappears

B6 on 22nd and 29 will have an extra BOS flight

I posted in the Indianapolis thread a while back as to why Allegiant dropped that route to SRQ, someone replied that it was possibly due to seasonal adjustment. Obviously that’s not the case it was just started few months before. So does anyone know why it was dropped starting in the middle of August? Was there not enough demand, or lack of aircraft?

Also up to 28 daily flights is exciting, can the airport handle that? I don’t mean space wise, but human resource wise.

They probably meant that because SRQ is really slow in September/Octoberish...The last day is August 11 and then it returns on October 5

SRQ-starting Dec 19, AA will trade frequency for capacity, cutting 1 CLT flight, but upgrading 2 flights to A319---first mainline since the merger.

Was just reading that in the local news! So figured I would jump on here. Very exciting!! Im guess Frontier got some deals like all Allegent to start the flights, but isn’t it still expensive to fly just twice weekly from one airport, are we to expect more flights to be announced by Frontier in the near future?

Also can anyone post the flight schedule for SRQ on December 21st? Is there another way to get this information other then OAG or searching one airline at a time on Orbitz? Might have to go spotting!

I'm thinking there will be more. The announcement was made in CLE to 3 new cities I'm guessing there might be more northern cities announcing...those areas would be point-of-sale. FINGERS CROSSED.

By the way...I'm hearing SRQ was up 30% in July

That would be great! I would really hope they would add Chicago to drop the prices on that route, not sure I would fly them, well maybe once to try them out lol.

That’s impressive and hopefully it will stay steady, I can say August so far has felt even busier then July. I see in September Delta dropped one flight a day, but instead is bringing in the 321 and 739 for he morning departures.

SRQ could support BWI, PHL, CMH, and DTW.
MSP, MKE, STL would be a bonus.

That would cover all the major cities in the northeast and midwest

Call me crazy, but I think DL/WN could run sat-only service to SRQ from CMH, IND, and CVG during peak-season. There is a large segment of the market that is currently flying to TPA to get to SRQ. I would love to see how much leakage there is from SRQ to PIE/TPA, back in the day the IND-SRQ market was well over 150+ PDEW during peak season.

DTW is only weekends right now, until that goes at least daily, I don't think they'd do IND, CMH, or CVG yet. PDEW for DTW-SRQ at peak is 170 PDEW.

I don't see how DTW being weekend only affects IND, CMH, or CVG. Back when IND had daily service to SRQ around 2010-2012, IND was the 5th largest market from SRQ only slightly below ATL(#1 CHI, #2 NYC, #3 BOS) and IND had double the PDEW of DTW (albeit at a lower fare).

Point is DL has lots of E170s/E175s sitting at CMH and IND on Saturdays some of which they use to fly to RSW/MCO. CVG/CMH/IND-SRQ wouldn't affect DTW anyway because very few passengers from those airports is going to backtrack to fly through DTW when they can fly through ATL.

Btw, PDEW between DTW-SRQ(excludes TPA/PIE) last year was 63 during Q1, 20 during Q2, 13 during Q3, and 27 during Q4. Not the 170 PDEW number you cited

Apparently Flair Airlines plans to serve the Tampa Bay at PIE with flights to Winnipeg. This is a new market to the area as no flights to Winnipeg are currently maintained at TPA. I don't see an official press release from Flair nor PIE, though.

Well....I won't get TOO excited until I see further evidence.

F9 website, all week on the SRQ pulldown there were 2 cities, CLE & LAS....LAS is a connection in CLE. Well, NOW....I see another city. They don't seem to run flights between CLE and this city, so doubtful it's a connection. :scratchchin:

fingers crossed :crossfingers:

Yeah, I'm seeing SRQ-PHL and F9 has been launching new routes on Tuesday's as of late, with it being 'bookable' late Monday night.

Allegiant adds another route from PIE. This time to Albany, New York, 2x weekly. Allegiant seems to really be solidifying PIE as its stronghold with 56 cities served, and G4 also doesn't seem to mind starting new routes that already have competition. In this case, they will be going up against Southwest that flies TPA-ALB.

On a side note, although Southwest is still #1 in market share at TPA, Frontier, Spirit, Allegiant, and now even Sun Country don't seem to have any problems with trying to eat WN's lunch whenever they think there is an opportunity in the Tampa Bay area. It will be interesting to see how Southwest responds if at all.
