Could HQ2 grow or revive a hub?

Sat Sep 23, 2017 4:07 am

The HQ2 Beauty Pageant has North American cities looking at 50,000 direct and 43,000 indirect "high paying" jobs, as well as the obvious need for travel to Amazon HQ. Not all of the cities that consider themselves candidates are hubs. Regardless of the chance the HQ2 will land there, which cities could be made hubs by this amount of growth? Which that were hubs could regain hub status? If there is a city that fits, which carrier?

My example... DL at AUS. Austin is growing steadily. DL has no hub in TX. DL is growing a hub at SEA, which is Amazon HQ.

Well start with the math

90k times

What percentage traveling a year

Times how many trips on average a year

(And assuming all of the above go to places all over the country and not disproportionately to, say, Seattle)

Do the math and you tell me.

(And that's taking what has to be a "best-case scenario" over what in any case will probably be over a long period of time as gospel.)

It's a lot of travelers for certain but won't in and of itself build a hub.
