Rest of the UK thread - 2017

Sun Sep 17, 2017 4:07 pm

I know there are individual threads for MAN, LGW, LHR etc but this thread could be for the rest of the UK.

Is there one of these yet? - If so delete mods :(

Ill get the ball rolling.... A little news I know of.

Doncaster airport is now the fast growing airport in the UK.
Flybe is going through an overhaul period - cutting the number of seats and closing certain routes due to poor financial performance. Bookings for next year already 4% up.
Wizzair increasing routes in the UK, adding new routes from Liverpool, Luton and Doncaster.

Would love to hear other peoples news.

I actually think this is a nice idea. Great for those local to airports such as EMA, NWI, BRS. CWL and so on.

My local airport, CBG sadly stopped their temporary passenger flights last year. They had scheduled flights with Darwin and British Airways (SunAir) utilising the 328JET - which I was fortunate to fly on. The British Airways flight still operates but only for Astra Zeneca as a corporate week-day shuttle.

You do get a mixture of aircraft visiting Marshalls Aerospace for maintenance, recently 747s, 777s, 767s, A330 and A340s, the odd 757 and have had the BA 787-8 fleet in too. Also a mix of A320s from EasyJet when their lease is up, ready for repaint and re-lease. A fair bit of GA visits, big private jets ranging from the BBJ to Bombardier. Some military flights, mostly C130s and frequent visits from cargo operator Atlantic with their 737 flights carrying racing horses across europe (Newmarket race course is just 12 miles from Cambridge).

Big SOU fan here, what little news there is has already been threaded on here, but still quite exciting news that EZY are starting flights, albeit only seasonal and to one destination. Not much room for expansion.

EZY at SOU is huge, if it works it could unlock a few other airlines and routes. How full to capacity is SOU?

The onlyactive thread from the UK is the Manchester thread, I haven't come across a thread for LHR or LGW thread. May I suggest that this thread just be named "The UK Thread". We will keep this thread on a yearly basis at the moment however I suspect it will get a lot of activity, if that is the case we can run it monthly similar to the Australian, New Zealand, Turkish and Irish threads.

I didn't realise LGW and LHR had their own threads. Seen the MAN one in the past but thats about it.

My local airport Cardiff will shortly be seeing service from Qatar Airways.

CBG has potential to be another "Southend" type London overflow airport, I think the main issue is Ryanair and Easyjet have bases at nearby LTN and STN and other airlines just dont have the appeal. Must be fun to see some of the heavies in for maintenance though.

I for one am not really in favour of these "<place> threads"

If there is real news, something of interest to many people, hiding it in a <place> thread is not of much use. What content can go into a "UK thread" to keep it interesting if the news is actually in parallel posted in more focused threads? IMHO, there are already too many "What's going in <XYZ> threads"

I prefer more open threads, and avoid the parochial ones where real news can actually get lost to the wider population!

Just my opinion, and preference!

LHR has a thread, so does BHX, along with MAN, yet they seem hard to keep going. Not seen the LGW thread however.

The JFK route will see a 3 weekly A333 and a 4 weekly B744 while the ATL service will see a 4 weekly A333 and a 3 weekly B744 if I've read it right....

Flybe is cutting a few routes from London Southend, and one of them is Cologne/Bonn.

Why can't Flybe make Cologne/Bonn work from Birmingham or even London Southend? This is the second time the airline will be pulling out of the airport. Even Air France and KLM cut Cologne/Bonn as well too, and EasyJet as well.

From London Southend possibly because its close to Stansted and Ryanair offer cheaper flights.

NQY still growing strongly.

https://www.cornwallairportnewquay.com/ ... -stuttgart

Stuttgart added weekly for the full summer 18 added to the increased season for Düsseldorf

Ryanair returning with 3 twice weekly routes

Are lingus regional continue DUB daily and ORK twice weekly.

Biggest growth is MAN which topped 10,000 in August for the first time.

I would say they'd be targeting Easyjet to LTN, LGW or SEN. Most likely they'd want them to LGW. I know they currently have zero presence at Prestwick but quite the opposite at the former 3. Then again potentially FR to STN, or BE.

Would a London - Prestwick route even be worth it? Surely that is a low yielding route. Maybe Easyjet could use it to help interline with Norwegian and Westjet at LGW.

Or possibly a 1 or 2 daily British Airways to Heathrow which is unlikely to be profitable and whether ba will do it or not.

Flybe are to open GLA-SEN from the end of next month, which surely puts any talk of PIK picking up a London route on ice again.

Yes as LBA is Jet2s second largest base and home therefore they would be quick to attend to Monarchs demise.

Your information is way wrong.
1. All flights from MAN to JFK and ATL are, and will be, operated by 333s.
2. JFK is now 7x, drops to 4x after 2 November 2017.
3. ATL is 4x but will drop to 3x after 4 November 2017 - loses Sunday flight.

Gunnerman.

My information isn't wrong, The timetable you speak of is for winter, I'm talking about summer.

From the summer season, both ATL and JFK go back to daily.

The B744 starts on ATL from 30th March 3 weekly, and then 4 weekly JFK from May.

It's clearly in the booking engine, take a look.

I did say 'from March 30th' which would have indicated S18. Why not just admit you were mistaken rather than do this carry on.

Only later did you refer to "March 30".
