The singing happened during a Ryanair flight from Spain, and the choking happened on board the plane after landing at Luton. Whelp, he almost made it:

The vigilante should also have been arrested, hugely dangerous move which rendered a man unconscious, under UK law that should be charged as GBH.

He can plead mitigation (2 hours of A capella) but he should be charged.

Because mostly Ryanair is cheaper than EasyJet and usually their flights are without incidents like these. Occasionally something happens, but those are exceptions.

Ryanair carried 126 million people in the past 12 months. Rather predictable that some incidents will materialise.

Sure lets kill him then because thats what the sleeper hold does if left on for too long.

Whats deserved and whats legal are often two different things, airport staff were on the plane dealing with the incident and at that point PAX need to butt out unless they are asked specifically for assistance.

The first passenger was being a jerk, but use of chock hold is risky and probably excessive. Let the Police come and make the arrest, they have the appropriate training.

I have a good friend who flies for FR and he says the UK-Spain flights can (quite regularly) be a bit of a handful.

For several reasons: they fly to destinations and airports not served by EZY(or vice-versa, eg. Luton doesn't do it for me), they are consistently cheaper, allowing me to fly to Malta, Budapest and London on a regular basis without denting my wallet, and ultimately EZY are really not that better. You'd be surprised how many perfectly good flights one can have on FR, particularly on the non-UK/Spain routes. Not everybody on FR is a chav, you know.

Thankfully when flying FR from Spain, when going north on Friday you just get a lot of Spaniards volume control stuck on maximum (mostly students) but very little drunk and rowdy behavior.

I suppose it helps that MAD isn't much of a party destination.

Ryanair's statement at the end is a back-handed suggestion:

“This is exactly why we are calling for significant changes to prohibit the sale of alcohol at airports, such as a two-drink limit per passenger and no alcohol sales before 10am. It’s incumbent on the airports to introduce these preventative measures to curb excessive drinking and the problems it creates, rather than allowing passengers to drink to excess before their flights.”

Many of the airports that FR negotiates to fly from agree to probably loss-leader prices for landing charges etc., and have to make up their income somewhere - alcohol is typically a nice high-margin earner...

Nothing to do with Ryanair. But this is starting to be less exceptional. All flights are related to the UK and the Spanish coast, starred by British passengers. Wondering where the problem might be...

Haha, I wish. If I was in Europe the only airlines I could afford would be easyJet, Norwegian, and a few other LCC's. Even here in the US the clientele on Southwest and JetBlue are vastly different from those on Spirit or Allegiant.

You think the vigilante did a good job hence you approve of his actions according to your own words, he chocked someone out.

Now you try to slip out from your previous statements advocating that untrained members of the public use holds that have often proved fatal even when used by trained professional members of licensed police forces on crowded flights with some fake call to politeness when you get called out.

Not to mention the fact that when you fly Ryanair you may just need some alcohol to get you through the experience...

Vigilante dude as out of line. While singing and being obnoxious is rude and annoying - it is not worthy of a violent response. The drunk guy should be a shamed and the vigilante needs anger management...
