The 2016 Irish census revealed that:
- About 20,000 ethnic Chinese live in Ireland (
as opposed to about 10,000 Chinese living in each of Belgium and Denmark)
- About 80,000 'other Asians' live in Ireland
Turning the tables, this service could also be marketed to the:
- About 100,000 Irish living in Australia and New Zealand (
Irish born only - not including those with Irish ancestry)
- About 4,000 Irish living in Hong Kong
- About 2,000 Irish living in Mainland China
- About 1,500 Irish living in Japan
- About 1,000 Irish living in South Korea
- "Several hundred" Irish living in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos
I re-iterate that there are currently
no flights from East Asia to Ireland, unlike how there are to Belgium and Denmark.
However, it would be naive to isolate this service to VFR traffic alone - if you read my post above, you will see that there is huge potential for high-yielding commercial traffic (in financial services, technology and aircraft leasing), mid-yielding tourist traffic, and strong cargo volumes, all boosted by Ireland being the fastest growing economy in the European Union, and both Hong Kong and Mainland China currently experiencing strong economic growth too.
Cheers,
C.
