Hey quick question. Does anyone know what widebody ship #'s that has the Delta logo on it's belly? Just curious to find out.

Yeah, gotta love those "Airbus 737-900ERs" that DL recent bought 130+ units of.
Oh, and that "Airbus C-Series" that they just bought too. ;)

The post(er) may have meant Airbus widebodies...who knows.

DL announced this morning an expansion of trans-Atlantic flying for Summer 2018.
http://news.delta.com/delta-s-trans-atl ... stinations

The announcement itself is being announced in a separate thread (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1374327), but thought i would include it in here as well due to implications on aircraft deployment.

1) 77L is seeing addition of LAX-CDG/AMS and ATL-PVG service in summer 2018. While the ATL-ICN flight goes 359 in the spring, something will probably need to give to make way for all the new flights. Perhaps ATL-NRT will make may to the 359? The LAX-CDG/AMS flights seem to rotate well with the LAX-SYD rotation and i presume the ATL-PVG will rotate with the LAX-PVG flight.

2) 333 is the the addition of 3x daily JFK-LHR service so we'll be looking for a few routes that will need to downgrade to 763s as a result of the swap. BCN/KIX?

This summer, the load factor of JFK-BCN route is above of 90% with the 772 so I can't imagine for S18 the 763...

I find all these day-of equipment swaps pretty fascinating. I would guess they occur for various reasons but didn't know they were as prevalent as they appear to be, based on hkcanadaexpat's updates. What is it that primarily drives these swaps? Is it mostly overselling/underselling of certain flights on certain days?

It looks like 95+% of these swaps have to do with aircraft going tech (or airport closures due to weather/other). This then has a trickle effect on the entire widebody fleet depending on where specific aircraft are located at the time to rescue the problematic flight. The one exception would be with the 763ER fleet. With both configurations available in JFK, DL may decide to swap types on certain flights last minute to accommodate unforeseen higher J demand.

Delta this weekend uploaded the new routes as well as made a number of equipment changes for Summer 2018. Although the deployment changes are reflected below, please take these with a grain of salt. DL is still fine tuning things and there will be definite changes (such as the JFK-LHR flights and JFK-LAX/SFO flights). Nonetheless some interesting info:

B744 [C48W42Y286]
2017 - 7 frames (5/7 required)
2018 - 0 frames (all retired)
(-) DTW-ICN/NRT/PVG, HNL-NRT

A359 [C32W48Y226]
2017 - 0 frames
2018 - 8* frames (7/8 required)
(+) ATL-ICN, DTW-ICN/NRT/PEK
* The actual number of A359s in service should be around 11 by mid-Summer depending on delivery & induction schedules which will likely result in additional flights migrating to A359 (most probably from 77L routes below).

A333 [C34W32Y227] (incl. 10x HGW version but schedule not segregated)
2017 - 31 frames (30/31 required)
2018 - 31 frames (29/31 required)
(-) ATL-AMS (3x), BOS-AMS (1x), DTW-CDG, HNL-KIX/NGO, JFK-LAX, MSP-HNL, SEA-CDG
(+) ATL-BCN/LHR (1x), DTW-AMS (2x), JFK-BCN/CDG/TLV

B772LR [C37W38Y218]
2017 - 10 frames (9/10 required)
2018 - 10 frames (12/10 required)*
(-) ATL-ICN/LAX
(+) ATL-AMS/PVG, DTW-PVG, LAX-AMS/CDG
* Current schedule doesn't add up for 77L fleet. Most likely pending route re-allocation to A359 and/or other types. I'm anticipating ATL-NRT to transfer to A359 by the time ATL-PVG re-starts in July but i could be wrong; nonetheless, by then, there should be plenty of A359s on property.

B772ER [C37W36Y218]
2017 - 8 frames (8/8 required)
2018 - 8 frames (7/8 required)
(-) JFK-BCN/CDG/TLV
(+) SEA-CDG/HKG

B764 [C40W28Y178]
2017 - 21 frames (20/21 required)
2018 - 21 frames (20/21 required)
(-) ATL-BCN/FRA/STR/ZRH, JFK-FRA
(+) JFK-CPH/LAX(3x)/SFO*
* Planned re-introduction of 764 domestic coast-to-coast service. These could well end up going back to 763 service but for now, DL is anticipating putting its 764 service coast-to-coast.

11x A332 [C34W32Y168]
2017 - 11 frames (11/11 needed)
2018 - 11 frames (11/11 needed)
(-) DTW-AMS(2x)/FRA/PEK, SEA-HKG, SLC-AMS
(+) ATL-AMS(2x)/LHR/LOS, DTW-LHR, JFK-LOS/ZRH

B763ER High-J Configuration [C36W32Y143] including 7x with crew rest [C36W29Y143]
2017 - 36 frames (35/36 required)
2018 - XX frames (27/XX required)*
(-) ATL-BRU/LHR(3x)/LOS, DTW-LHR(1x), JFK-SFO(1x)/ZRH, MCO-GRU, NRT-PDX/PVG, RDU-CDG
(+) ATL-FRA/STR, DTW-CDG/FRA, JFK-FRA**
* It is rumoured that Delta will be modifying a number of 763ER High-J to 763ER Low-J during the slow winter season. This is to reflect demand as well as counter balance the retirement of certain (2x at the latest count) 763ER Low-J scheduled during Winter 2017-18.
** looks like FRA is migrating exclusively to 763ER.

B763ER Low-J Configuration [C26W29Y171]
2017 - 22 frames (22/22 required)
2018 - XX frames (29/XX required)*
(-) HNL-SEA, JFK-AGP/CPH/DKR/LAX(2x)/SFO(2x)/SNN/SVO
(+) ATL-BRU/LIS/ZRH, BOS-AMS, DTW-CDG, HNL-KIX/NGO/NRT, IND-CDG, MCO-AMS/GRU, MSP-HNL, NRT-PDX, PIT-CDG, RDU-CDG, SLC-AMS
* Obviously there remains some cleaning up to do in the 763ER schedules. The High-J/Low-J don't add individually and they barely do when added together and removing the 2 scheduled retiring frames.

B763 Domestic Configuration [C30W28Y203]
2017 - 3 frames (3/3 required)
2018 - 0 frames (retired)
(-) ATL-ANC/SAN/SLC-HNL/SFO

Again. Grain of Salt!

Very impressive indeed. The bigger changes happen on October 28th, that's when additional frequencies go away and certain routes begin operating less than daily.

There are many - DL has repainted several aircraft, along with the delivery of 10 333s that have it as well as the 359s. 1201 and 3303 are ones that I know that have it.

Looking at mid-late June, I'm seeing ATL-AMS as 2x 333 + 1x 77L, and no 332s.

I, like you, expect ATL-NRT to move to the 359 by the time ATL-PVG starts in July. That would allow the aircraft to be bridged from DTW, and would allow the 77L fleet to be rotated between LAX, DTW, and ATL at PVG (as well as the potential rotation between ATL and LAX at AMS.

Based on the currently loaded schedule, it appears DL will be concentrating the 7 208-seat 767-300ERs at SEA, running them on SEA-NRT-SIN, SEA-ICN, SEA-PEK, and SEA-PVG.

Also, with the added transcon flying, it looks like there will be 1x 764 overnighting at LAX and 3x 764s overnighting at JFK. I think it makes a lot of sense to shift these to more domestic flying as the interiors are older and slightly less competitive, and it provides a capacity boost into gate-constrained LAX.

Slight correction: there would only need to be 2x 764s overnighting at JFK, with one inbound on a redeye from LAX.

Today I see that EWR-AMS has been removed from being bookable for next summer, and there are now 2x JFK-LHR flights loaded on the 332. So it did all eventually get loaded as DL promised. With those adjustments, the currently loaded June 2018 schedule will require 15 211-seat 763s, 27 226-seat 763s, and 11 out of 11 332s.

With those adjustments, the currently loaded June 2018 schedule will require 15 211-seat 763s, 27 226-seat 763s, and 11 out of 11 332s.

It would not surprise me to see 9W B773 replace DL on AMS-EWR as part of the JV DL/AF/KL/9W.

Jet Airways' EWR route was dropped when 9W moved from BRU to AMS and 9W may well be looking for a direct connection BLR/DEL/BOM-NYC. With BLR-AMS opening next month, there may be enough Indian traffic to warrant re-instatement of a direct service India-USA on Jet Airways.

The one argument against this proposal is that DL's hub at JFK may be a better 9W destination than EWR, but as AMS provides plenty of USA destinations it may offer a faster one-stop transfer hub for 9W/DL/KL than JFK does.

Can you elaborate on this? I am not "in the know" however I do have a feeling that DL maybe realizing the advantages of adding the DL Premium Select on Transatlantic routes and maybe removing some of the Lie-flat business seats on the 767-300ER for flights to add "Premium Select" to Europe?

I know most of the JFK-LHR flights are going A330 to have a more standardized product in Business across the board with Virgin Atlantic. It would make sense if this also included the Premium Select to complement the VS Premium Economy which is a very similar product. Could also see Premium Select to CDG to complement AF's Premium Economy as well.

Again this is just an educated theory so please be constructive in your discussion of this.

I think the idea is simpler than that. The first batch of 763ERs to be retired look to be the oldest low-J frames. That being said a number of routes remain best served by these low-J frames (ie Japan-Honolulu, smaller focus cities-EWR/SLC/CVG-Europe) so DL seems to have decided to convert some high-J frames to low-J frames to keep these routes served by the right aircraft. That obviously has a ripple effect the opposite way whereby some of the 763ER-high J routes are getting upgraded to 332/333/764 routes (JFK-LHR for example) as there will be less 763ER-high Js available going forward.

The 76L to Z mod is happening next year. But none of them will get the new premium select seats. This mod covers around 13 or 14 planes I hear.

Hkcanadaexpat, I'm getting different figures for next summer...to me, looks like the A330s are over scheduled...

Looking at 7/13/18 for A333:

7 - JFK-AMS/BCN/ATH/FCO/MXP/TLV/CDG
1 - BOS-AMS
4 - DTW-AMS/AMS/AMS/FCO
13 - ATL-LHR/CDG/CDG/AMS/AMS/FCO/DUB/BCN/GRU(2)/GIG(2)/HNL
3 - MSP-AMS/AMS/AMS
2 - SEA-CDG/AMS
1 - PDX-AMS

A332:
4 -JFK-LHR/LHR/LOS/CDG
5 - DTW-CDG/LHR/NGO/GRU
1 - ATL-LOS/LHR

No spare room at all...

^DL could rotate an AMS 333 on DTW-GRU in place of the current 332 if there’s enough 333’s.

Delta has always scheduled its 332s to the limit and subbed in a 333 on the TATL flights as needed.

Delta has updated their schedule again this weekend so my figures are now out of date. Also i use dates in August for sake of calculation as it is post ATL-PVG starting and August tends to historically been more stable schedule wise.

Most likely not. The NEOs are probably going to take over the longest non-A350-900/77L flights leaving the remaining 767-300ERs and the 767-400ERs/777-200ERs/A330-200s/A330-300s on shorter Transatlantic/Deep South America routes. So think SEA and possibly LAX as being primary base(s) for these aircraft.

So what you’re saying is that, in the long run, Delta will fly all A330-200/300s on their LHR flights, much like they have, for years, flown all 767s?

B744 [C48W42Y286]
2017 - 7 frames (5/7 required)
2018 - 0 frames (all retired)
(-) DTW-ICN/NRT/PVG, HNL-NRT

2017 - 0 frames
2018 - 8* frames (7/8 required)
(+) ATL-ICN, DTW-ICN/NRT/PEK
* The actual number of A359s in service should be around 11 by mid-Summer depending on delivery & induction schedules which will likely result in additional flights migrating to A359 (most probably from 77L routes below).

A333 [C34W32Y227] (incl. 10x HGW version but schedule not segregated)

2018 - 31 frames (29/31 required)
(-) ATL-AMS (3x), BOS-AMS (1x), DTW-CDG, HNL-KIX/NGO, JFK-LAX, MSP-HNL, SEA-CDG
(+) ATL-BCN/LHR (1x), DTW-AMS (2x), JFK-BCN/CDG/TLV

B772LR [C37W38Y218]
2017 - 10 frames (9/10 required)
2018 - 10 frames (12/10 required)*
(-) ATL-ICN/LAX
(+) ATL-AMS/PVG, DTW-PVG, LAX-AMS/CDG
* Current schedule doesn't add up for 77L fleet. Most likely pending route re-allocation to A359 and/or other types. I'm anticipating ATL-NRT to transfer to A359 by the time ATL-PVG re-starts in July but i could be wrong; nonetheless, by then, there should be plenty of A359s on property.

(-) ATL-BCN/FRA/STR/ZRH, JFK-FRA
(+) JFK-CPH/LAX(3x)/SFO*
* Planned re-introduction of 764 domestic coast-to-coast service. These could well end up going back to 763 service but for now, DL is anticipating putting its 764 service coast-to-coast.

11x A332 [C34W32Y168]
2017 - 11 frames (11/11 needed)
2018 - 11 frames (11/11 needed)
(-) DTW-AMS(2x)/FRA/PEK, SEA-HKG, SLC-AMS
(+) ATL-AMS(2x)/LHR/LOS, DTW-LHR, JFK-LOS/ZRH

B763ER High-J Configuration [C36W32Y143] including 7x with crew rest [C36W29Y143]
2017 - 36 frames (35/36 required)
2018 - XX frames (27/XX required)*
(-) ATL-BRU/LHR(3x)/LOS, DTW-LHR(1x), JFK-SFO(1x)/ZRH, MCO-GRU, NRT-PDX/PVG, RDU-CDG

** looks like FRA is migrating exclusively to 763ER.

B763ER Low-J Configuration [C26W29Y171]
2017 - 22 frames (22/22 required)
2018 - XX frames (29/XX required)*
(-) HNL-SEA, JFK-AGP/CPH/DKR/LAX(2x)/SFO(2x)/SNN/SVO

* Obviously there remains some cleaning up to do in the 763ER schedules. The High-J/Low-J don't add individually and they barely do when added together and removing the 2 scheduled retiring frames.

B763 Domestic Configuration [C30W28Y203]
2017 - 3 frames (3/3 required)
2018 - 0 frames (retired)
(-) ATL-ANC/SAN/SLC-HNL/SFO

I had a bit of time and compared what was put together vs current schedule. Actually schedule is holding tightly together to my surprise.

These are the changes made since then:
ATL-AMS: 2x 332 replaced by 2x 333
ATL-EZE: 764 replaced by 333
ATL-GIG: 333 replaced by 764
ATL-SCL: 763HJ replaced by 763LJ
EWR-AMS: removed from scheduled (was 763LJ)
JFK-LHR: 2x 763HJ replaced by 2x 332

So basically, after netting things out, the schedule is seeing:
2x additional daily 333s
0.5x additional 763LJ
3.5x less 763HJ

This results in a fully committed schedule for the 333, High J 763s go to a 24 frame requirement and Low J 763s go to 30 frame requirement. Thus the schedule is taking shape. For things to work out, one expects one route to transfer from 77L to 359 in July and for 13-14 763ER-high J frames to be converted to low J frames.

(+) ATL-AMS/PVG, DTW-PVG, LAX-AMS/CDG
* Current schedule doesn't add up for 77L fleet. Most likely pending route re-allocation to A359 and/or other types. I'm anticipating ATL-NRT to transfer to A359 by the time ATL-PVG re-starts in July but i could be wrong; nonetheless, by then, there should be plenty of A359s on property.

B772ER [C37W36Y218]
2017 - 8 frames (8/8 required)
2018 - 8 frames (7/8 required)
(-) JFK-BCN/CDG/TLV
(+) SEA-CDG/HKG

B764 [C40W28Y178]
2017 - 21 frames (20/21 required)
2018 - 21 frames (20/21 required)
(-) ATL-BCN/FRA/STR/ZRH, JFK-FRA
(+) JFK-CPH/LAX(3x)/SFO*
* Planned re-introduction of 764 domestic coast-to-coast service. These could well end up going back to 763 service but for now, DL is anticipating putting its 764 service coast-to-coast.

11x A332 [C34W32Y168]
2017 - 11 frames (11/11 needed)
2018 - 11 frames (11/11 needed)
(-) DTW-AMS(2x)/FRA/PEK, SEA-HKG, SLC-AMS
(+) ATL-AMS(2x)/LHR/LOS, DTW-LHR, JFK-LOS/ZRH

B763ER High-J Configuration [C36W32Y143] including 7x with crew rest [C36W29Y143]
2017 - 36 frames (35/36 required)
2018 - XX frames (27/XX required)*
(-) ATL-BRU/LHR(3x)/LOS, DTW-LHR(1x), JFK-SFO(1x)/ZRH, MCO-GRU, NRT-PDX/PVG, RDU-CDG
(+) ATL-FRA/STR, DTW-CDG/FRA, JFK-FRA**
* It is rumoured that Delta will be modifying a number of 763ER High-J to 763ER Low-J during the slow winter season. This is to reflect demand as well as counter balance the retirement of certain (2x at the latest count) 763ER Low-J scheduled during Winter 2017-18.
** looks like FRA is migrating exclusively to 763ER.

B763ER Low-J Configuration [C26W29Y171]
2017 - 22 frames (22/22 required)
2018 - XX frames (29/XX required)*
(-) HNL-SEA, JFK-AGP/CPH/DKR/LAX(2x)/SFO(2x)/SNN/SVO
(+) ATL-BRU/LIS/ZRH, BOS-AMS, DTW-CDG, HNL-KIX/NGO/NRT, IND-CDG, MCO-AMS/GRU, MSP-HNL, NRT-PDX, PIT-CDG, RDU-CDG, SLC-AMS
* Obviously there remains some cleaning up to do in the 763ER schedules. The High-J/Low-J don't add individually and they barely do when added together and removing the 2 scheduled retiring frames.

B763 Domestic Configuration [C30W28Y203]
2017 - 3 frames (3/3 required)
2018 - 0 frames (retired)
(-) ATL-ANC/SAN/SLC-HNL/SFO

I had a bit of time and compared what was put together vs current schedule. Actually schedule is holding tightly together to my surprise.

These are the changes made since then:
ATL-AMS: 2x 332 replaced by 2x 333
ATL-EZE: 764 replaced by 333
ATL-GIG: 333 replaced by 764
ATL-SCL: 763HJ replaced by 763LJ
EWR-AMS: removed from scheduled (was 763LJ)
JFK-LHR: 2x 763HJ replaced by 2x 332

So basically, after netting things out, the schedule is seeing:
2x additional daily 333s
0.5x additional 763LJ
3.5x less 763HJ

This results in a fully committed schedule for the 333, High J 763s go to a 24 frame requirement and Low J 763s go to 30 frame requirement. Thus the schedule is taking shape. For things to work out, one expects one route to transfer from 77L to 359 in July and for 13-14 763ER-high J frames to be converted to low J frames.

Fwiw there should be 14 76L frames that that will get the Z mod by the end of 2018. With 10 done by the start of the summer schedule. I'm not sure how many 76Ls are in the fleet currently.

Thanks. That makes sense. DL currently sitting on 29x 76L. So minus 14x, we'll be looking at 22x High-J 763ERs (15x 76L + 7x 76T). While the Low-J 763ERs will number 34x 76Z (22x currently - 2x retired + 14x converted). I assume the 15x 76L to survive will be the oldest ones (171-186 + 1200-01) which will be retired first when the first 339s start getting delivered in 2019.

I didn't see JFK-ACC on the list of aircraft usage above. Based on the list it looks like the 767 fleet is stretched as is. Does JFK-ACC stay 767?

JFK-ACC stays 763-low J next summer. It wasn't listed because there is no change to aircraft usage.
