CVG and STL new airline announcements tomorrow

Wed Aug 23, 2017 3:18 am

Assuming these are linked I am guessing JetBlue or WestJet? There is a rumor STL is getting a BA flight but unless they are announcing CVG and STL at the same time for that (which is doubtful) I think the latter 2 are the most likely. I guess you could throw Spirit in as well. Thoughts?

If anyone else is hearing of their airport with an announcement tomorrow let it be known also.

EDIT: The rumor is that it will be BA for STL tomorrow. Maybe they will split weekly flights with CVG?

Alaska does schedule extensions on Wednesdays, but they already serve STL. Probably Spirit or JetBlue, realistically thinking.

Haven't heard from NK in a while, and it wouldn't be surprising for them to announce multiple cities at once.

Is Sun Country going to be announcing new service to STL and CVG tomorrow?

What "article"...?

It's just a tweet from some random dude whose job listing is a Pharma rep from RDU.
How do we know that he has any idea what's to be announced?

That is no article in here. Its a twitter post, I can go make one now that says BUF landing Emirates announcement tomorrow :spin:

Lets see what actually happens, i dont see a legit source. STL airport facebook nor media section mentions an announcement tomorrow. What is this based on?

He does seem to have some connections by previous things I have read by him.... That said, until I hear someone from BA or the STL Airport say this is the flight, I am not going to think anything is for sure. Both these airports having announcements the same day really throws me off the BA trail. I just can't see them both getting BA the same day. Maybe they are getting different airlines and it just happens to be the same day but that seems like it would be unlikely. I guess they could announce 3x weekly for one and 4x for the other with the same plane but that seems like it would be a first also.

Just please don't end up being a Spirit announcement. What a letdown that would be.

At least one local news station (either KSDK or KMOV) reported a new airline announcement for STL tomorrow during its nightly section (I personally witnessed this). Oddly enough, none of them have posted anything on their websites yet.

I await tomorrow with great anticipation.

I also witnessed it (the reason I made the thread) on the local NBC affiliate. They didn't say the airline just so we get that straight, just that there was a new airline coming. STL rarely has press conferences for routes. It seems like they rarely even mention new routes after they are announced, which drives me a little crazy. There still hasn't been any mention of F9 adding Tampa. It took them about a week to say anything about WN adding PBI. So if they are getting the word out it has to be fairly significant.

Yeah, that would be odd.

From what I understand, LHR-MSY and LGW-OAK were decided at the same time, though BA separated the announcements by a week.

Well I guess. BNA/STL (if it holds true) would be separated by a week. I think it has been a week. Maybe 2 now. Still not sure how CVG fits in. They could probably do that route on a 757 though (assuming BA runs 757s). CVG is only 5 hours from their announcement though so that might be a clue. I haven't seen when STLs is.

I can see BA into STL. They're getting a slew of new 788s and 789s next Spring, hence the BNA route announcement 2 weeks ago.

For CVG I'd say AS from SEA.

BA mainline got rid of 757s several years ago. They transferred one to their French subsidiary OpenSkies (where it joined two other 757s flying Paris-New York), and the rest left the fleet entirely. When they did have 757s in mainline they only ever flew in European configuration, so no lie-flats in J, no IFE etc. Great planes to fly shorthaul in terms of the takeoff experience, not great on fuel economy on the length of run they were used for, which explains their replacement by A320 series.

If you're looking at transatlantic flights, all BA has with suitable range and seat configuration are: 788, 789, 744, 772 (both ER and nonER), 77W, A380 types. That's all they'll have next summer too, just slightly more 788s and 789s. By 2019 A350-1000s and 787-10s will be around as well.

Due in the first half of 2018 are exactly two of each, and one of those won't arrive until June, a bit late for new services which usually start either at the beginning of May or with the international northern summer timetable at the end of March.

Doesn't AC have a big YUL announcement for the 23rd? Makes sense if its a bunch of American routes on AC Express

There are specific news outlets reporting that CVG is getting a new airline. They already have AC (Jazz), so I don't think it would be that. Reading the YUL announcement also made it seem like they were long-haul flights being announced.

For 1 BA no longer has 757's & second if TXL-EWR could not do it in winter. How would LHR-STL do the flight needing an extra 191nm longer range

I didn't. They have seven, all in European seat configuration, all due to leave the fleet in 2018. Configuration means they are unsuitable for transatlantic service, and they haven't received the modification 767s need in order to use the higher altitude transatlantic ATC tracks. So they'd need a fair amount spending on them to make them suitable for transatlantic work, which just isn't going to happen this late in their lives.

G4 flies out of BLV not out of STL, CVG already has G4 and it was announced that it would be a new airline.

Any chance CVG could be EI with a 757? Aer Lingus have alluded to new transatlantic routes for 2018 and with additional A330s coming into the fleet there is spare 757 capacity

I guess I should have used a different word than 'slew' 8-)

One 788 due next month. The last three due in March, April, and June.
789s are due Mar, Apr, Jun, Oct, and Nov of next year.

Still, I think that's plenty of time to announce a couple new routes for summer, even if they start early June.

Looks like I was wrong anyways and it's WOW flying to both airports.

Depends which source you use for what is on order for delivery when - yours looks like Flyertalk.

BA's annual report published early this year showed just 4 788s and 2 789s as the total outstanding orders for the types. No sign there of the other 3 789s you mention, and the 787 production thread spreadsheet updated last week now has the one 788 due next month, one 789 due in March 2018, and one in May, one 788 due in May and another due at the end of July 2018. The final 788 doesn't have a confirmed production slot, and can't be before September 2018, as all the 788 slots before that are allocated to specific airlines.
So there's been some slippage compared to what I thought, let alone to what you've seen, and that's just 4 extra planes total before any realistic summer timetable start date.

Now the announcement of BNA, and extra rotations announced on GIG, PHL, and PHX for summer take up two planes worth of flying, one of the mid-haul A321s (that operate to the Middle East and Moscow with long-haul seating and onboard service) gets converted to short haul configuration and needs to be replaced with a genuine long haul plane, taking up a third. At best that's one long-haul plane's worth of flying available for further new route announcements, unless something gets cancelled or transferred to a JV partner But there's also a programme of reseating 772ERs to 10-across which will take one or two at a time out of service from January onwards, and something has to cover for these missing planes too.

I wish these airports well with WOW, if successful it will encourage other airlines to give them a try, and may actually increase the total traffic.

Looks like WOW is trying to be the first ones in, as people know these airports don't have enough O&D to support another airline now. Airfares will also be very competitive and last minute averages will go way down with WOW in the market, trashing yields. Good move on their part.

That's so strange. I'm not trusting flyertalk anymore. Even Wikipedia says only 2 more 789s. And I wonder where flyertalk is getting their information from.

There is nothing Delta can do. They cant fly CVG-KEF, no hub left to support a flight like that.

That's so strange. I'm not trusting flyertalk anymore. Even Wikipedia says only 2 more 789s. And I wonder where flyertalk is getting their information from.

This may explain it.

Thank you. Much appreciated. I guess the people on flyertalk didn't get this update, or it's deep in the comments, which I didn't want to read through.

WOW! did not see that one coming, wonder how this will affect DL....

I would expect them to react adversely to this.

There is nothing Delta can do. They cant fly CVG-KEF, no hub left to support a flight like that.

They will probably lower prices, but the route makes its money on cargo + business pax, DL is probably not going to care much about WOW taking the leisure passengers who already cannot fly to Europe from Cincinnati due to DL's premium prices.
