Identification of an obscure 1930s type...

Sun Aug 13, 2017 10:13 am

Hi everyone - I occasionally indulge in watching old 1930s/1940s era films, and in one of them, which featured a heavy aviation theme. It featured visuals of a type which had to be in service as of 1936 (when this video was filmed) - it's a 3 engine monoplane, two engines on the wing, with a third radial engine in the nose. It's not your typical Ford Trimotor of Ju-52 either - very different configuration than either.

Video linked here: https://youtu.be/24QNU0uK_Hc?t=1m32s - queued to start at 1:32, where the plane appears for a takeoff shot.

Anyone know what type of plane it is? Something about the cockpit window configuration is very familiar to me. I want to say Glenn Curtis, but I might be totally off base here.

Thanks in advance!

A quick photo-search suggests a Stinson A - low wing,cowled engines,struts and cockpit front windows sloped inwards.

Looks like American Airlines-- or maybe American Airways. One or both had Stinsons.
