Burning cycles before retirement?
Short an A330?
Needed extra capacity/demand during August summer travel season?

Btw, noticed there is an extra section (5th flight) on DTW-AMS today Thu 8/10, but it appears to be a make-up for a cancellation of 138 Wed night 8/9.

If you click on the seat mapper for flight 134, it shows the seating diagram for the 747

Flightstats, too, shows 134 as a 744 on the 11th -- arriving to AMS the 12th.

I am curious to know why Delta is subbing in the 747-400 on this route segment when there are not many frames remaining. I wouldn't think it would be due to additional westbound traffic in Y cabin for European holiday travelers but who knows. Will there be any other additional equipment substitutions like this coming in September / October? Time for enjoying the Queen of the Skies from DTW is running out :/

Ending an era of NW and DL B744 TATL ops.

Delta has had a fairly large number of aircraft on ground/aircraft out of service this season. It's part of the reason the 737-800s from Gol (coded 73A for DL) did not receive full-cabin mods prior to entry into service.

In regards to using the 744 on DTW-AMS: An A330 was damaged in SEA. It was impacted by a forklift I believe by a DL cargo agent who, to my knowledge, has caused previous aircraft damages and is no longer with the company. Since they are short an A330 they have been subbing the 744 for these flights as needed.
I'm not sure when the 330 will return to service - but expect other subs or last minute equipment swaps as needed.

The A332 involved in this incident is N851NW and it's returning to service later today, after being out of service since August 7th.
