Delta A350 interiors

Mon Aug 07, 2017 11:24 am

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I couldn't find anything after a brief search.

Anyway, these are the interiors of Delta's first A350. That economy colour is ugly as hell though...

Well, that Y cabin looks like a posh military transport, yuk. Should be able to go a long time without cleaning in those colours.

Its not the prettiest of colors but ugly as hell? Quite a bit dramatic are we? I can show you some colors that are ugly as hell.

If you own a house, or an apartment, and you have hundreds of house guests coming over each and every day with a multitude of kids and babies sitting, walking, crawling, pissing, barfing all over your furniture, are you going to put the 'prettiest' and 'softest' of colors on your furniture and floors or something that is practical and doesn't require a deep seated cleaning once a week?

I don't think they had any intentions of winning any awards when they chose the color they did but its a very practical and working color.

Is this the first time a U.S. carrier uses a screen bigger than 9" in Economy? Seems like it.

I believe this is because not all of the cabin lights are on. Looks to me like Maintenance has the cabin lighting system is in standby mode.

Some hints of red in Economy would've been nice. Just some very minuscule patches would've made a difference.

Well, truthfully, ANY little hint of colour...even some tiny accents here and there -say headrests and bins?- would have made the cabin look a bit more inviting and less "institutional"... Those black seats look very dark & stark, as comfortable as they may be...

Well, you may be surprised to learn that indeed there are airlines who still go to the extravagant expense of fitting their Y cabins with colour cloths with patterns on them... Yes, they cost more and they need more regular cleaning, but hey, maybe long-haul passengers with what they pay deserve something nicer than a greyhound bus plastic seat cover?.. Maybe.. Just sayin'

Too much monotony going on in Economy. Carriers like CX and SQ have different shades of fabric on their seats in certain rows to avoid monotony.

CX

SQ

Even just the shade of blue on certain amount of rows would've been acceptable.

I don't understand these complaints of visual dullness or monotony. You won't see the economy class seats when there are as many as 226 people (all wearing a variety of differently coloured clothes) sitting in them :D

Don't forget the economy class seats are missing a headrest cover. I think the disposable ones - I imagine this will add some colour to the cabin. I think it looks really good, professional.

Unless things have changed DL does not use disposable headrest covers, or any headrest cover at all beyond what you see here. What you see in the photos now is how the seats will look when passengers are boarding, minus maybe the pillows (which are white).

I think the standard DL blue leather seat is something that is long overdue for updating. I wouldn't call the cabin ugly as hell, but definitely lacking anything close to wow factor.

Its better than it use to be. The "first generation" (for lack of a better term) of this interior design (that you may find on planes like the 764, older unrefreshed 738s, etc) lacks any details in the seat making them look like they were ripped straight off a school bus. DL has improved the premium cabin seats to make them look a lot better, now we just need a little more improvement on the Y design.

I don't like that blue in economy never have, but it's the same cabin spec that they have on every plane they have in their fleet. Have you all not seen any of their aircraft Y class is the exact same color it's been for a while. I'd imagine Delta would be updating its spec soon with the changing of uniforms and such. But I wonder if the changed would make it to the 350 if they ever decided to.

Yup. A few people sit down and the monotony (of color, anyway!) is gone.

Even adding a small red stripe on top of the seat like AA would do wonders for the Y cabin. At least AA and UA use different shades of the same colors to add a bit of variety to the Y cabin.

But the colors help during boarding and photos.

I agree! That particular color blue is not very attractive to my eye. The 350 interior does look fresh and clean, however!

Y is certainly very monotonous, but the color isn't terrible in my opinion. The dark blue they're using is certainly better than the brighter blue they were previously using.

First of all, it's my personal opinion. That colour is just bland and monotonous. They used it back in their DC-9 or old 757/767 era! The new colours are much more alive and welcoming. Delta already has them in hundreds of planes, so why return to the old ones?

Second, last time I checked a house is a bit different from a plane. On these 13 hour flights passengers will mostly see the seat back, but the front colours are still visible. It just doesn't scream ''new plane with much-improved product'' to me. And yes, that seat is a big improvement from all the other seats they have in Y. Their W and J colours are much better. And I don't think that a child will have a problem with them. If children can seat in them in 6-10 hour flights, or more in J, I don't see why it would be a problem in Y. Unless they intend to live in those planes then they should be just fine with some more lively colours.

this. and precisely this. The cabin has that much blue for precisely the first 1 second of boarding.

And I doubt very seriously that DL customers would trade more color for less space since DL's A350 coach seats are wider than what will be on AA or UA's transpacific fleet as well as that of a whole lot of other global carriers without sacrificing pitch.

For the American consumer, you can never have a big enough TV screen. The greatest public health menace of the 20th century just got bigger. If Philo Farnsworth could see the brain-addled masses now.

I think he is talking about the Y seats, they resemble the old Y seats from the DC-9 Actually. D1 is obviously all new but PE colors resemble the new domestic economy seats found in the A321/739 and refreshed domestic aircraft.

I personally love the interiors. It's simple and clean. I get the monotony look, but in comparison to other US carriers, the new interiors definitely look higher class. I'd take dark blue tones over lighter tones. Light tones scream cheap.. the headrest covers and peoples clothes will break the colors.

It's just funny to me that there's so much criticism on Y class.. it's just .."you get what you pay for" . If u don't like the color when boarding.. book a different class. I highly doubt a normal customer will complain. And in comparison to CX etc, Delta has a fairly larger fleet to maintain.. they probably chose the seats and everything with reason (maintenance etc. budget allocation to a better business class, premium economy). They probably sacrificed where they needed to make other things happen. But.. we wouldn't know because we don't run the airline. If one of us enthusiasts decide to work for aero interior design or run an airline then I think we'd probably get a better understanding.. also, the lights were in standby mode so it's not even fully bright.

-To me, this interior is the most luxurious I can sense with the standard red, white, and blue theme I have seen to date. So... if anyone else can find something better that fits our patriotic colors id like to see it. But so far, it looks pretty classy to me. Keep in mind, these will be international flights so they will probably have the white pillows with red blankets as accessory accents as well. With the premium and business the white Westin heavenly sheets...so.. contrast galor.

2-4-2 for Premium Economy. A proper W class! Do we know the seat pitch and whether those seats have a footrest?

I have to say I'm excited about the US carriers adopting true Y+ . All we need now is some competition in that segment to drive down the cost. AC doesn't budge on its demands for $1800 RT to Asia in Y+ but hard to see that staying put if DL and UA get in on the action. I hope we see this beast at PDX someday..

yes to footrests. 38" pitch

see
https://www.delta.com/content/www/en_US ... -a350.html

and

https://www.delta.com/content/www/en_US ... onomy.html
for pictures of premium select as well as other amenities.

I would like to see a comparison travel report from both AA and DL's premium economy cabins once DL's begins service.

DL has already said the 777s will start getting Premium Select after the summer 2018 season and I suspect the 339s will have them from the factory.

AA will probably have the most premium economy seats the fastest. UA has so far not committed to the cabin but I do believe it will be a big winner with consumers.

The Premium Economy seat is the same exact model as AA's and the ones found on CX's A350 which is the B/E Aerospace MiQ.

DL

While I like CX's the best, I seem to prefer DL's over AA. The quilt-like pattern makes a big difference. AA is just dull.

I am aware that the hard product is essentially the same. The onboard service is what I am interested in seeing between AA and DL and then ultimately compared to some of the international carriers that have it. Might be very similar or there might be differences.

I do think it will be a nice step up from standard economy and the demand for the product will be strong; DL is putting a lot more premium economy seats on its A350s than AA is on the 789. UA could well be the odd man out without it and given that they are accepting dozens of new 787s and 777s right now, the cost and timeline to retrofit them will be long.

Thanks for the links and the pics atl100million and maortega15. Nice seat. Look forward to trying it some time.

Is DL planning to offer Premium Select on the A339NEOs? I imagine so. However, the DL site mentions "select international routes". I have no doubt the A359s and 777-200s will all have W, just not sure about the A330s and 767s. Perhaps all A339s will have the W seats, but older A330CEOs might not.

Concerning colors.

I've flown A350 on a couple of occasion, and it creates colour of its own. Have a look at this photo:
Image

It will probably change interiors a lot for all you flying :)
Airbus calls it ambient, IIRC.

However, two things to mention: it's not default option, AFAIR, and it's of no use during boarding. However, sun raising up in cabin with all those yellows and orange colours is really helping! :)

It also depends on how "exciting" the operator makes the light program.

Of course. Probably a library of predefined sets is available, but it's up to airline to make use of these.

I think that a good part of the problem is the pictures being taken with the lighting dim. If the picture was taken in brighter light it would definitely look better.

Sorry. To clarify, I meant the new colours on their Comfort+ and Business Class products that have been around for a few years now. If they could put those in Y as well they would have one of the most attractive cabins out there.

It's a normal color set for Delta. Why he thinks its so Ugly escapes me. But I also remember when seats were deep cleaned overight at a lot of stations at least once a week. Wish they still were.

I rather have bland colors but 9 across A350 than bright colors and 9 across in a 787. I would always pick an A350 over a 787 in Y.

What routes are planned for this aircraft? SEA-HKG anytime soon?

I think that a good part of the problem is the pictures being taken with the lighting dim. If the picture was taken in brighter light it would definitely look better.

He should have adjusted the lighting to match that in the other cabin pics. I did it in Lightroom & it looks nice when the lights are not all dim.

- The pitch of the business seat seems small.
- The height of the shell makes the door superfluous.
- Is their any veneer on the outside of the shell? Or, is it just off-white plastic?
- The red cubby is creepy both because of its color (red) and its function (a place for hanging things). It also gets far too much emphasis for what it is.

As to the rest, not ugly, but also not distinctive.
