Well as I had previously said was possible.

Hilton Head will be flown by Republic, at least in partial, starting in July.

I would think that after the runway extension is completed, this route will be transferred to PSA CRJ-700s.

I don't see how either aircraft could fly from HHH with its present runway. I read where the runway extension will be done in July, thereby allowing the E175 to start service and I expect weight restrictions being summertime.

The 175 can do it, although it's going to have a max takeoff weight of somewhere around 65,000 lbs. That's a payload of approximately 15,000 lbs. That's going to be roughly 50 pax and 40 bags after fuel.

*Disclaimer: I quickly looked up these numbers in the performance manual; they're not hard numbers and there could be errors. This is ISA + 15, dry runway, and no alternate. Once you add an alternate and wet runway things are going to get messy real quick.

There are at least 5 unpainted E140s floating around. (4 were at DFW B gates yesterday and one was in the maintenance/spares area on the SW B ramp.) I'm a bit surprised that AA/MQ did not plan to have these painted after they left ABI, but at least the interiors are redone. (Though the unpainted one I rode on Tuesday was so fresh, you could still smell the coin mat adhesive.)

Are any E-140's going to PDT? I get conflicting replies saying yes or no.

There is at least one unpainted E140 that is NYC based- it made a trip to CMH yesterday from LGA, N853AE. I have seen nothing about any 140s going to Piedmont, I do not think they will be around long enough and it seems Piedmont has found the right pace for taking on the transfers. I do not know if they could effectively take on that much more flying quickly. With the transfers of the CR7s to PSA, MQ would appear to be a better fit for keeping on the 140s.

Speaking with a Piedmont base manager, the fleet is expected to grow to 70 frames. The old Piedmont had about 60 Dash's in the fleet and that was before the merger with Allegheny.

They will be repainted eventually. MQ did not want to take it out of service any longer than it had to after being in storage and going through heavy check.
N834AE hasn't been painted yet. It is flying around with no logo on the tail after EVA Air hit it at ORD years ago.

I know they will be repainted, but MQ has presumably known the reactivation schedule (replacing the ZW CR2s and PT E145 transfers, among other reasons) for some time. And I also know that ABI has a fixed throughput. But why not move the schedule to the left by a week or two, enough to allow them to go to AMA/ROW after they leave ABI? I did give thought to the fact that they want to shake them down in service first, but that was dashed by my coin mat adhesive experience earlier this week. (And that may have been an anomaly. Perhaps it was replaced quickly at DFW or something.)

OTOH, maybe there's a reason why I don't work for MQ and they know exactly what they are doing... :)

I saw 800 and 833 at DFW. (Was on 800, 833 was next door on the stinger.) I also got a partial, either 815 or 816. (I'm sure about the 81 part, just not sure about the last digit. It was hard to make out in the evening twilight.) I didn't get a good enough look at the other two to make out the numbers.

Yes, TSA has operated 15 AA-owned planes and two TSA-owned planes for American Eagle out of DCA for quite a while, under a fee for departure contract. (Similar to the Compass-operated E-175s.) One more AA-owned plane, N614AE, will transfer from TSA to Piedmont later this month. My understanding is that all 15 TSA jets will be gradually transferred to Piedmont.

Yeah, I don't think it's been announced anywhere to be honest. I follow the regional carriers very closely, and while I assumed that TSA would give up the AA owned 145's (much like Compass will with the 175's), it hadn't been officially announced publicly anywhere as far as I can tell.

I wonder if TSA will shink or if the X-Jet 145XR deliveries from UA will offset that.

Source are those that work within the AAG group. PDT are getting TSA birds, just like PSA are getting Envoys CR7s, and eventually the AA owned E175s at Compass will head back to Envoy. Just sit back and wait.

ExpressJet CRJ-700 update!

N717EV completed the new interior works at GUS in Peru, Indiana. It is now flying for AA. It came thorough MHK two days ago and has the bright-LED lighting and power outlets through row 7. The other ExpressJet CRJs are some of the first off the line, originally flying for Horizon Air. They do not have these creature comforts. These aircraft have a much smaller aft cargo compartment. The lavatory seems to be much larger. I'd say its 2/3 the size of the older jets.
N718EV also completed the interior rework but flew to ATL on April 19th and hasn't flown since.
N720EV seems to be next and is at GUS since Monday night.

I think this is part of the 8 jets to come over to the AA operation this year.

I don’t believe any E140s are scheduled to go to Piedmont at this time. I currently show 36 x E140 in service with Envoy and another 7 in refurb, 2 at BNA and 5 at ABI, of the 49 being returned to service.

Any word on what will happen to the rest of the -EV CRJ700s? I believe they are owned by ExpressJet but the AA agreement only allows for a handful.

Some of them are already showing up in CLT in the next few months. It looks like they're all being routed through cities that also have LGA service.. so if they rotate the planes in that way there's no real need to open any kind of base in CLT.

Taking a look at the April schedules (currently the farthest-out schedules that appear to be finalized), there are 11 ERD departures from CLT to SGF, LEX, GSO, FAY, HTS, ROA, and CHO. Aircraft are bridged between CLT and LGA via CHO, and possibly GSO (which has 2 RON aircraft from CLT and 1 from LGA). The CLT flying looks like it only requires 3 frames.

Oddly enough, I was looking at this a few days ago via flightaware and noticed that the flight times via CHO could be used as a bridge between CLT and LGA. I had been wondering with the CR9 ops last year on CLT-CHO being full if they would upgauge the CHO-LGA flights. Looks like this summer though, they will be down to a few two-cabin aircraft and the rest 50 seaters on the CLT-CHO route.

Slightly off topic, but with so many E140/145 ops going on, with Awac leaving and PDT growing would Envoy consider adding smaller regional bases like PDT used to have? Currently, I think PDT is down to just PHL and ROA, however Envoy - and correct me if I'm wrong, they only have NYC, DFW, ORD, and MIA? While useful during normal ops, I always thought it was a smart idea to give outstations with large number of flights a crew base so when one station is snarled with weather, you have crew that can be positioned in that aren't affected by said weather event...

PDT is opening a CLT base July 1st, which may change the Envoy footprint there.

None of them will go Piedmont, it would make zero sense for them to be placed there. PDT would need to amend their manuals and training program, plus have it all approved by the FAA. It would be a waste of time and money to do so.

Any word on what will happen to the rest of the -EV CRJ700s? I believe they are owned by ExpressJet but the AA agreement only allows for a handful.

I'm assuming you are referring to the 22 or so that weren't placed with anyone after leaving DL? I haven't heard anything on them but I would assume they will end up with OO instead of EV.

Doubtful, unless the musical chairs continue at AA or UA. Delta is scoped out.

The EV birds are already shifting to OO beginning in June, I'm assuming EV is going to end up wholly-owned by UA so OO will shift all the CR7s to the OO certificate. AA can continue to accommodate more CR7s, pilots permitting, because AA has room on the small RJ front by reducing the ERD & CRJ ops.

OO is going to struggle to effectively staff just the 175 deliveries they're on the hook for at AS and DL, that to staff additional 700's is going to be next to impossible.

AA's most recent contract considers jets smaller than 65 seats small RJ's. Conveniently, the ExpressJet CRJ-700s are configured with 65 seats, as opposed to the 70 seat OO config.

They have already started transferring 700’s. First one has all ready been added to the operation specs.. not sure how many of the 22 remaining will be coming to OO. Im guessing all. (Rumor XJT winding down the CRJ operation, in favor of 1 aircraft type/contract) No staffing problems on the OO side, as those 700’s mostly come online for fall flying...

No problem staffing the OO side? That's the best joke I've heard all year. OO is running crews ragged on scheduling on the CRJ, and the ERJ side is likely to be the same way by the end of the summer. They have little to offer in the recruiting department, with most regionals now paying more than OO.

Huge differance in what pilots think is adequate staffing , and what the company does. FA side is very well staffed... same with MX.

Running crews to legal limits on flight hours isn't adequate staffing, no matter where you are.

Never get close. The trips are to inefficient... thats the problem... they you end up with 89hrs and 11 days off. Because they tag a local to the day after a 4 day.. and 2 DH’s every trip. Block 16 paid 22.. when was the last time you saw a “Crew cancellation” on the cancellation report???? Not for a long time.....

Per company newsletter:

American’s contracts with regional carriers ExpressJet and Trans States to end next year

In an effort to improve consistency for our customers and simplify our regional operation, we have decided not to renew our contracts with ExpressJet and Trans States when they expire in April 2019. The changes will not affect our capacity or service levels in any of our markets, and we will work closely with all impacted partners to ensure smooth and gradual transitions from ExpressJet and Trans States to other existing American Eagle partners. Once the wind-down of these agreements is completed, American will have seven regional partners, down from 10 we had at the beginning of this year.
