Vietnam Airlines 777-200 off Washington State

Mon Jul 24, 2017 3:23 am

Hey everyone, I was just tooling around on the trackers and found a VN 777 cruising of the coast of Washington State. What are they up to?

Apologies if there has been a previous thread discussing this.

My best guess is that it's on it's way to VCV.

After doing a bit of research, I found that VN-A143 and VN-A144 both went to Greenwood, MS after a stop in SFO earlier this month. I'm guessing that's where this one is going too, as well as VN-A146. Those are the last 4 of VN's 772s that haven't been transferred to another carrier.

VN-A145 was stored at HAN for quite some time so perhaps it's heading to the knacker's yard.

We had a thread about one week ago about VN-A144 being being ferried for storage/scrapping: being ferried for storage/scrapping: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1367971&p=19667857&hilit=VN+777+SFO#p19667857

Any pictures of -143 or -144? I guess they had a neutral livery, correct?

VN-A146 followed her siblings footstep to the SFO.

It's on the news (in Vietnamese) that VN sold 4 777-200 and one PW 4090 engine to Pratt & Whitney for USD 70.7 mil.

I don't follow the prices for these transactions, but that seems like a pretty high price for four worn out 772s and one engine.

My guess it's for the eight PW engines on the four 777-200s plus a spare, making a total of nine engines. 70.7 mil would sound about right for that. I would assume that the fuselages will be scrapped quickly since 777 parts are in high demands.
