Deal was placed in October. Seeing how there is no backlog I'm actually surprised it wasn't sooner

Is this the first 748 of any type to be purchased by a US airline?

I would not be sad if they operate the B748F in place of the MD11F into Sydney.

DHL (US operators) have a bunch operating out of CVG, they are quite the sight! I only wish more airlines in the US ordered them :-). Too bad FedEx will not operate any, though, I do hope Amazon Prime Air considers a large order, they are growing rapidly and are going to need airplanes with longer range and higher capacity than their 767's.

I believe this was the first 748 for a US airline (N853GT): https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/8172644

The 744F will take over for the MD sometime next year.

Love the photos of it all wrapped up in paper, but still chuckle every time I think that a major logistics company calls itself Oops.

Amazon has no need for greater range. I see them sticking with the 767 and increasing frequency for more lift.

And brown isn't the most complimentary color, but somehow they all make it work. I'd love to have a die-cast model of this airplane!

I hope so! 28 of these beauties flying around would be amazing :D

I know the first frames are being put on services to Asia, but is UPS also planning on using them to Europe?

A beauty, but that´s no surprise.

No one mentioned though that the livery has been modified in comparison to the 744Fs. A simplified logo (2D now vs the 3D-look so far), and shortened, enlarged titles.

UPS changed their logo to the flat version a few years ago (as is the current logo trend, with the old gradient logo looking very early 00s). It will eventually be on the 744F fleet, I believe some of UPS's other planes have it now. The titles look the same to me, just missing the "Synchronizing the world of commerce" titles.

I always found an all white front section of a 747 freighter nice looking, don't know why.

Still would give anything for a last-minute order from DL, UA, BA, EK, or another, but as long as these beauties are flying over American skies one way or another I'll be ok.

N572UP and N579UP have the revised livery on them and the other 11 744's will be receiving it as they go through regular scheduled paint visits. Currently, about half the A300's and 757's have the revised livery as well as 4 767's and 15 or so MD-11's.

They didn't keep it under wraps. They tweeted the photos when painting was done. Previous photos were from the middle of painting so the plane was wrapped up as part of the painting process.

I would assume it is not a nose-loader? I doubt UPS would need to load such large objects. Is nose-loading an option or standard on a 748f?

Of course its a standard feature. Boeing dont offer 748Fs without nose doors. Even if UPS does not need it, its easier to find a second-hand customer with a nose door.

I would have loved to see the nose painted black (brown) and/or with a stripe going up over the top of the cockpit.
