Just curious, with the new routes being announced from ISP recently, it still seems the furthest west you can fly directly on a commercial flight will be New Orleans. With the delays at the New York majors, it would seem that there should be at a minimum some demand to WN cities further west. Or AA to a hub beyond Philly.... But I am only an amateur airline revenue analyst, and probably for good reason.
Likely because of the somewhat short runway. It’s more than big enough to support WN’s 737’s (or else they would not be here), but they don’t wanna risk filling up a 737 with a full load of fuel, along with the pax and cargo, and trying to get it off a 7,000 foot runway especially if the weather is bad. Im not sure why, but a few years ago I had this dream that United started ISP-Sacramento nonstop on a CRJ. LOL
I think it could be done. Not just because it suits my needs for family connectivity. There are several business in Long Island and thousands of city executives that reside there. Given the delays at JFK, and the pain that is LGA, I would think there would be business opportunities let alone other leisure opportunities from ISP. 7000 feet should be long enough.
I mean there has to be more interest in LAX, SEA, DEN, than New Orleans.
For relatively longer distance travel, people probably would be more willing to travel to major airport that are further away compared to short distance travel?
Some of it is also location - in that Ronkonkoma if pretty far out onto the island and the population density skews closer to the city. It’s not like tons of people are driving past ISP to get to JFK or LGA. Some are, of course and there’s nothing to say that people couldn’t drive in the opposite direction.
However, my gut tells me that if the airport were closer to Jericho, it might be more attractive. But then it’s also very close to JFK in particular.
