How Much Notice Does Boeing Give For First Flights?

Mon Jul 17, 2017 5:36 pm

I am highly interested in going to Everett to see the 777-9 fly in 15-18 months. Usually, how long before does Boeing give a set date for first flights?

As for the 787-10, it's about 3 weeks if I didn't miss anything........ Dont really anticipate this early. We've been waiting for a long, long time for the 77X.

For the "normal" roll outs, they don't post any first flight dates. Since things can change, and stuff can happen.

The last few first flights have been announced a few weeks in advance, but those dates are always subject to change. The weather (particularly from October-May/June) can be unpredictable and certain adverse conditions (including low clouds/visibility) can postpone an early flight test flight. Additionally, if anything is caught during tests leading up to first flight, first flight could be postponed to address the issue.

Usually you'll see a date where the flight test "window" opens. This indicates where in the schedule flight testing can begin (ie, it won't happen earlier as pre-first-flight testing won't be complete), but other things can push the schedule to have first flight at a later date.

In other words, don't count on it or just be willing to waste your time and possibly money.
