Pittsburgh Steelers to use Miami Air

Mon Jul 17, 2017 4:31 pm

Seems quite the downsize from what US Airways/American has provided over the years..then again maybe not.
.
In April, American Airlines stuck a finger in the eye of America’s new pastime, telling six NFL franchises that the company no longer would provide charter services for their road games.

The Steelers disclosed Thursday that they have a new airline. Via Jill Beckman of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers will use Miami Air International when the team travels in 2017.

In addition to the Steelers, the American also dumped the Dolphins, Ravens, Colts, Jaguars, and Cardinals. American will continue to service the Cowboys, Panthers, and Eagles.

A source told PFT in April that up to 20 teams could be facing loss of charter service, with United and Delta possibly joining American. There have been no subsequents reports or announcements indicating that United, Delta, or any other airlines had indeed stopped servicing NFL teams.

UPDATE 8:50 a.m. ET: According to the team, the Dolphins also have secured charter services with Miami Air for 2017.

UPDATE 9:02 a.m. ET: The Jaguars have made arrangements as well, but the team said that it does not publicize its private arrangements.

UPDATE 10:04 a.m. ET: The Colts also have made arrangements, but they also have chosen not to disclose them at this time.

Miami Air is a first-rate charter carrier, but a 734 seems a little small for a football team. At one point, the Bills were using a World Airways MD11 for road games. Maybe they will split into two jets.

I remember those days well ! AA flew the Dolphins for a while using a 757. But it sat after it arrived Saturday until after the game,Sunday.

The only west coast game for Dolphins in 2017 will be to Los Angeles to play the Chargers...if felt weird to type LA and the Chargers in the same sentence.

Right, but the 734s are the ones in VIP config. At least last time I looked.

They wouldn't definitely need 2 frames IMO

NFL teams don't use VIP Config like NBA or MLB teams do. They don't fly as often and the teams are too big and too much equipment.

No doubt they will need two air frames, any NFL team or start flying some employees and equipment commercial. Or Miami Air will Wet Lease a 767.

I will be surprised if Atlas does not get into some contracts with NFL teams.

I don't follow football. Still,a 737-400 seems small.

More than likely it's a 738. They used an US/AA 321 up through last season, and since they don't have any cross country trips,I suspect a 48 F class seating and 70 coach will be the ticket.

This state of the art aircraft offers a single class configuration of 168 seats, and gives you improved fuel efficiency, comfort and flexibility – with extra legroom. This aircraft can also be reconfigured with various options that include up to 48 first class seats. It has the ability to fly non-stop from most US and Canadian cities to many popular destinations in the Caribbean and Mexico and also to Hawaii from the West coast.
