UA 763 at HOU

Sun Jul 16, 2017 2:57 am

So what started as a rumor, and actually ended up as a fact. A United bound for IAH today ended up landing at Hobby for what ever reason. All passengers were busses back to IAH. It was an International flight. Anyone know the cause??

It looks like they circled a bit before coming into HOU, presumably they were limited on fuel and had a pax emergency. FLIFO states: PAXS CLEARED AT HOU AND GROUND TXFRD TO IAH

Well if there were a pax emergency, HOU is closer to the Texas Medical Center than IAH.

Pretty bad weather most of the afternoon in Houston. Perhaps IAH was socked in with bad weather but HOU was still available?

I bet those pilots don't land on 7600 feet or less very often. It's plenty of room, but certainly out of the norm.

I don't know...I would imagine they fly the 757 some places with a shorter runway.

Hate I missed that on approach - I live in the Med Center/NRG area under the 12R approach pattern. The plane took off at 9:01p for IAH and landed at 9:15p

IAH was on Grond Stop for some time due to Thunderstorms. Quite a number of diversions in addition to 160.

Initially at Million Air. Then they moved to the hard stand at the international terminal where they offloaded the passengers.

With the Hobby FIS only recently completed, I have to wonder if this was the first commercial passenger flight arriving from Europe at HOU since 1969...

Do they have CBP personnel on hand for such events? otherwise they're busing in agents from iah to do processing?

This flight is planned pretty much at MTOW every day. It's tough having a 763 on this route. With a shorter Alternate you can get everyone on. Longer Alternate and you're for sure bumping a few thousand pounds of payload.

HOU has scheduled international flights on WN. A UA 763 does not hold many more passengers than a WN 738.

I bet they do. OGG is shorter. LIH is shorter too and is now getting 767s, although I'm not sure if UA sends 767s there.

seems like an ideal 788 route, perhaps one day....

UA sent 763's into OGG for years and has sent them to LIH in the past. AA and UA currently send 777's into OGG and AA will begin sending 763's to LIH from DFW later in the year.
