Common grounded aircraft still don't loose money like empty ones.

Do you still need more proof that they don't really care about profit or loss..?

That's nice. Let's hope that Al Baker will go there personally to tell the Ukranians that they won't have to be served by "grandmas" any more but rather his personal harem of women that are not allowed to get married or have a boyfriend.

He did apologize about that. Unlike Richard Anderson for talking about Emirates and 9/11 in the same breath

Is Ukraine still safe to visit? I know the country has had many problem's in the past few years, but people still seem to be going there.

Also, why did Emirates cut Kiev?

The A320 is a hell of a lot cheaper to operate than a 777.

Kiev still seems safe enough, most of the unrest is in eastern Ukraine while Kiev and the west of the nation are in relative peace. The city obviously hasn't been immune to violence and protest, there are plenty of public demonstrations that are largely peaceful but still tense and any protest can turn nasty very quickly.

I imagine this was in the pipeline, and the sudden spare capacity allowed it to be accelerated.

I am wondering what's their target customer. Kiev is notorious to be a low-yield destination with almost no business traffic. I am wondering - is QR targeting XXX kind of tourist?

If QR is aiming for passengers to 'our popular destinations in Eastern Europe', I would think the geographically challenged must be the target market.

I've just returned from Kyiv and there were quite a lot of tourists from the ME (couldn't tell though if they were from countries where QR is actually allowed to fly to atm) and from India. It's also getting more popular as a tourist destination again it seems after the huge decrease after 2013/14. One daily A320 might not be too hard to fill up, yields are another story though.

I believe there is also a reasonable diaspora of Ukrainians in Australia that QR can tap into that go home every so often. May. It fill a 320, but considering the scale of the hub, it will contribute. Along with business traffic from Asia, and the Middle East. I'm sure it will support the broader hub/network.
