Seeing the post about this aeroplane, I wonder what A-Net folk think are the prospects for Russian and Chinese airliners. The Russian civil aviation industry has flagged badly since the collapse of the Soviet Union, now over a quarter of a century ago, and the Chinese civil aviation industry has really yet to get off the ground, as it were. With Boeing and Airbus dominating the field from the 737 and A320 series upwards and Embraer's and Bombardier's commanding position in regional jet-airliners, is there much scope for Russian or Chinese manufacturers to compete successfully with these well-established companies?

At the moment, between the two, the Russians have the best airliners. The Russians are slowly making gains in Europe and North America. As for the Chinese, it's anyone's guess, but think it will take them a lot longer. In terms of their home markets, it's a given that they will do well.

An unknown airline flying ONE Russian plane with a questionable operational record ... this does NOT have 'success' written all over it.

From http://atwonline.com/airframes/russia-s ... rst-ssj100:
Azimuth is based at the old Rostov-on-Don Airport; later it will move to the new Platov airport, which is scheduled to open in December. The airline will also develop its regional network from Krasnodar International Airport.
