It's likely that new deliveries are being used as spares for the period between induction to fleet and entry into the schedule. Airlines usually leave a gap in case delivery is delayed.

Is there any post-delivery induction work that needs to be done? The 787s all fly to DEN for work when they are finished in CHS, not sure what for but they get something done to them.

Also, when will the joint FA contract take place?

UA has occasionally scheduled the the 77W from ORD. I've definitely seen it to BRU and SFO. I'm sure there are other one-offs as well.
Would be nice to see them regularly scheduled though.

ORDs getting RJs to CHO, CMI, and seasonal mainline to RNO!
Maybe Kirby will finally bring new metal into ORD. HKG is screaming for the 77W, and with the loss of the SIN tag, maybe UA will re-time the flight and run it to FRA where it can rotate to SFO.

Did not realize SFO-SYD was getting the 77W. Thought UA was happy rationalizing Australia flying around the 787-9 but I guess the route either does well, thanks to the substantial feed UA has at SFO, and can hold its own against QF and the 747-400 they fly. Guessing LAX to SYD and MEL remain on the 787-9 for the time being. The MEL nonstop was made possible by the introduction of the 789 but LAX-SYD was originally a 747-400 route, then swapped to a 777-200ER and then went 787-9 in 2016.
Wouldn't UA need 2 77W to operate SYD from SFO?

I looked at Nov 16th and it showed SFOSYD as 789.

Never.
RyanairGuru wrote:SFO-SYD is loaded as a 789 until the end of the schedule. Given that there has been no statement by the company I think we can classify this as a rumor at this stage.
EDIT: if true I assume it will only be for the Southern Summer (when AKL operates) and not year round?

Could be shifting back to 772 though no?
