Bright sunny day at DUB this morning. T2 not that busy considering its July and a Saturday. T1 is packed though. First time seeing QR at DUB on its new route to DOH.

WX SSJ heading on a charter down to AGP. Most passengers will not know how lucky they are .

Today marks Corks first transatlantic service to the American Continent.

D8 1821 departs for PVD at 16:40. Sadly not the MAX, as far as I am aware. Although they have taken delivery of a pair in the past week.

The TK A332 that was due today has been upgraded to an A333 :D (TC-LOE). Hopefully the upgrade is signalling a growth in demand. I'm going to check the TK website to see how many seats are reserved for the TK1978 flight (Edit: I can't check because there is less than 48 hours to go.) I think this is the first time a TK A333 has come to Dublin without the cancellation of a previous flight causing the next flight to DUB to take the people from the cancelled flight and people who already were going to board the flight.

I heard a group was booked hence the upgrade.

I wasn't aware the EDI-SWF flights with Norwegian had already started, there's a few reports online already.

https://airwaysmag.com/special-flights/ ... inaugural/

https://thepointsguy.com/2017/06/norweg ... ht-review/

Based on these reports, I don't think this offering from Norwegian is one I'd even consider, no matter how cheap.

Id only do DY in their Prem Y B787 product. Just a personal preferrence but there are thousands who will fly this LCC TATL product as we have seen with advance bookings. Credit to DY for bringing in more competition.

Repeat business will be interesting with D8, I have saw loads of people rave about the low price but not realizing it dons't include food, seat selection or checked baggage, IFE and the fact a narrow body will operate. Little like the WOW Air bravado in the Irish media.

There will always be a market for a narrow body operation but DY will have to fly the 787 if they really want to make Dublin work and I believe they could make it viable but suspect there is more pressing opportunities coming up like FCO etc short term.

I don't think it has to be a 787 to make Dublin work. All it needs to be is profitable to make it work for Norwegian.

Same here especially being inside a plane for 6 1/2 hours without an IFE screen and if the WIFI is dodgie than you will probably be bored must of the time.I better the only people who will buy tickets on this flight is only looking at the price l.

Ok fair point but if they really want to make their mark at DUB a 737 will not do that. A dreamliner would deliver them a bigger return.

Could Dublin support a D8 B787 base as well as all the TATL it currently has? Would suspect it may end in hardship and or/tears for someone.

for a city the size of DUB to have the level of TATL it has is already astounding, surely there is a tipping point somewhere?

Lot of traffic still going via Euro hubs which pricing plays a part. There is only 100 seats between two types so not a lot. While the market is growing pretty fast remember transit is taking up lots of it so keeping pricing up however some positive movements since D8 announced the routes from a consumer prospective.

If thwy are doing as well as D8 claim then its the next lodgical step in the next yeae or teo.

I still remain skeptical about DY long haul ops, they are operating in a good period and have yet to face any major industry problems since launching.

Yeah but could they make a 787 work from DUB is the real question as there is a huge seat difference.

Personally yes I believe they could provided it flies to major airports such as those from LGW and not out of town ones like with the MAX. Anyway if the long talked about FR deal comes off it would end any concerns about running a profitable 787 service out of DUB.

Shannon Airport security criticised by former employee

Shannon Airport is a soft touch for terrorists, according to a Limerick councillor who used to work at the airport X-raying luggage.

Cllr Paul Keller’s concerns come less than two weeks after the head of the Clare Garda Division, Chief Supt John Kerin, admitted he did not have enough resources to fully protect the Co Clare airport.

Varadkar Criticised Over US Military Use Of Shannon Airport

The new Taoiseach has been criticised for indicating that he will continue with Ireland’s long-running policies on neutrality, and the US Army’s use of Shannon Airport.

The comments have come from Independent TD Clare Daly, a long-time opponent of Shannon’s use by US troops who was arrested at the Airport in 2014, and subsequently convicted, after attempting scaling the perimeter fence to seach planes there.

I notice the Ryanair 737-700 has been sitting on a remote ramp in DUB today. It it being used for charters or training? I recall hearing that they planned to use it for sport team charters in an all - business layout during the football season and for other purposes during the summer, possible installing economy class seats for charters.

Government urged to put in place new UK aviation agreement for Brexit

The Government is being urged to put in place a new aviation agreement with the UK and the US before the Spring of next year in order to minimise disruption to air passengers after Brexit.

The Seanad Brexit Committee is warning that the airline industry could be severely adversely affected, unless a new Open Skies Agreement is put in place without delay.

Major travel disruption as multiple flights diverted from Dublin Airport over fog

THERE is major travel disruption at Dublin Airport after flights were diverted last night to fog.

Multiple flights were diverted from the airport after 10pm last night due to fog.

Flights were being diverted to both Shannon and Belfast.

A passenger on an Aer Lingus from Berlin told Independent.ie: "Our flight was diverted from Dublin to Belfast, we were told it was due to weather conditions. We landed around midnight and were waiting almost five hours for a coach to arrive and pick us up to bring us to Dublin.

Can't answer your question I'm afraid but it was nice to -SEV depart last night (along with the other oddball -DCL) Last time I saw the 700 it was training in PIK but that was late January.

Norwegian is looking at the possibility of a DUB-PEK service, but unfortunately only once the new runway is open.

https://www.ch-aviation.com/portal/news ... n-approval

They're opening a lot of interesting routes out of LGW (most recently ORD and AUS), so hopefully if their new t/a flights are a success, we'll see new ones being added.

Hopefully, we should have a direct China flight before 2021!

Over $2bn in debt, opening a mish-mash of different routes and having no real dedicated hub. This strategy normally has only one ending....!

Ross Insists Shannon Airport Change Isn’t Downgrade

The Transport Minister has insisted that a change in the categorisation of Shannon Airport doesn’t amount to downgrading.

Sinn Féin and others have queried the move which will see a lowering of Shannon’s status from Category 9 to Category 7 for part of the time.

It means that the Airport will not be able to take some of the largest aircraft types when operating at the lower status.

There was an interview with Norwegian's Irish CEO in the indo last week and he mentioned it. However I assume such a route requires Chinese govt approval and considering how long it took for Norwegian to get approval from the Americans I wont hold my breath!

My family flew Norwegian last night from PVD-ORK. My wife said the service was fine and that you got what you paid for. However she said that anybody over 5'8" will struggle with the seat pitch. She said she would flew them over Aer Lingus any day given the price difference. I am not sure I would agree with her seeing as I am well over 6 foot tall!

I think some of their flights are early morning departures from DOH and others, around 7-8am; they seem to do this with a lot of new routes (I see they are about to launch Prague and they've done much the same thing).

Presumably they'll make both of these times daily. Love the 787 (from a photography perspective), but I agree that a 350 would be better from a passenger comfort perspective.

Good luck to them!

Aer lingus cancelling bucket and spade flights in September, ryanair and easyjet must be really driving prices down to where Aer lingus can't compete at all, not even a break even fire sale.

Can't see them lasting much longer at bhd if the passenger increase up at bfs continues at current trends with the low costs.

Unless they moved back up the road but can't see that happening after the previous acrimonious break up. Ah well!

Ah well!

Not sure I follow, if they can't work at BHD, they also won't work at BFS so don't get the move back up the road logic.

Just saw it's only the W routes, still keeping AGP/FAO which have always been core routes.

Wasn't saying it like that, only said about a route back up to bfs as a non plus.

We've seen from Aer lingus in Belfast that if they'd have stayed at bfs they might be in a better position to jostle for the bucket and spade routes and possible/good routes for city pairs, but they shied away down to bhd with a limited runway and it's left them with Malaga, Faro and London

I dunno but Aer lingus burnt good bridges when they moved to bhd and followed business/high yield pax.

Now ryanair, easy and jet2 have a hold on bfs when Belfast itself is being voted in the top 10 of city breaks for euros and Asian tourists and Aer lingus is stuck, bhd is a classic hour long turboprop flight airport

If they want to upgrade the 787 to an a350 I wouldn’t say no either.
With QR just starting their DUB flights and already talking about going double daily, there seems to be an enormous capacity provided by the ME3 and TK. Although Ireland has great market potential, I find it hard to believe that from one day to the next, there is a demand for an extra 250 seats for DOH and beyond, without the other carriers losing out. Hence my question, which carrier is suffering most from QR's new flight and which could be affected most in the future, in particular if QR goes double daily ( which remains to be seen ) ?

Which makes me ask, unless QR is desperate for getting traffic, why EK is so reluctant to bring teh A380 here?
