2017 Paris Air Show - Other Manufacturers News And Orders

Mon Jun 12, 2017 3:42 pm

Hello all! The 2017 Paris Air Show is upon us! It's shaping up to be a very interesting event this time around, so let's get started!

This thread is for other manufactures that will be at the show, and no doubt, some will show up amid the Airbus/Boeing battle that will brew.

Embraer will be at the show, hoping to snag another KC-390 customer. The E195 E2, with the recent "Eagle" paint scheme is also expected to go, amid some of Embraer Executives models.

Bombardier will no doubt be using the show as a vehicle to pitch the C-Series. An airBaltic CS300 will be on display at the show.

Show be interesting to see what happens below Airbus and Boeing!

Fliegerfaust is saying that Skywest may cancel its order for the MRJ90, due to its delay, and due to its heavy weight and that it does not meet recently negotiated scope clauses. Fliegerfaust speculates that Skywest will order 100 crj's. Perhaps this order will be announced at the airshow? Certainly Skywest needs new jets soon....

As to CSeries orders, Bombardier has been saying for a long time that it is in negotiations for a large order the size of the Delta order. Perhaps this will be announced? In addition airBaltic is so pleased with its jets that it may do a followup order. Will Lufthansa (SWISS) exercise its options?

CRJ-900s? Replace older -700s perhaps and still fit within the existing scope rules.

Perhaps, but Fliegerfaust is not a terribly credible source of information in my opinion, so take that with a grain of salt. Fliegerfaust has been speculating about CSeries orders at least a 2-3 times each month for the past couple years, most of which are not based on reality. Just my opinion. :duck:

After my initial comment, I looked up the referenced post. It refers to a 2016 article on SkyWest's feelings on the MRJ90.

In addition to the CS300 BBD will also bring a WestJet Encore Q400NG.

No CSeries orders in Paris?

Thu Jun 15, 2017 1:04 am

According to the link below, it appears that once again Bombardier will not be in a position to announce any orders for the CS100 or CS300 in Paris.

Link: http://ca.reuters.com/article/businessN ... 52GD-OCABS

It is too bad that with all the publicity and the media being at the event, that this appears as a wasted opportunity for the company to announce at least a few small orders. I also realize that Bombardier in the past has only announced a very small handful of orders for CRJ's and Q400's.

Although further down the article it states that Mesa is going to be looking at replacing its early CRJ900's. I know that they have recently been purchasing Embraer products, but I have a feeling that the CRJ900 NextGen stands a chance of replacing the older version.

BBD are under different laws from Airbus and Boeing. They find it a bit harder to sign a deal, then "save" it for the big airshows.

[They also wouldn't want to sit on a potential, but unsigned, deal in case A or B would step in and pull the rug from under them.]

Perhaps Skywest will invest in the E175.

Is Qatar even in a position to buy anything at the moment considering that they have so much on order and the embargo has cut their need for capacity by 20%?

Would be QR style - reject the A320NEo due to the PW engines - go to Boeing and then to Bombardier to buy the engine again.

Out of the manufacturers, other than airbus and boeing, who do people think will have the most successful time at the airshow, in terms of orders? At the moment, given the Indigo atr order, i would say its atr.

If you consider fighters as well, news is coming in that Indian govt has signed for 120 F16s, to be jointly manufactured in India by LM and TATA.

Hopefully BBD can get some decent orders this year ATR's backlog might mean that the Q becomes more attractive for faster deliveries.

That's the second Q order in recent weeks. Great to see. Would love to see WestJet announce a top-up order. Compared to AC Express, if WS truly want Encore in every AC Express Dash 8/CRJ city, they will need more than 45 frames total to do that.

But, there's no way QR could proceed in setting up an Indian subsidiary. The existing 7 airlines are up in arms against it.

Acquiring AI is the only possible way for them.

Interesting. So if these get converted into firm orders, I wonder what that will put the ATR 42 portion of the 42/72 order book at?

I am curious as to the status of MRJ and if they will garner any orders from LeBourget? Mitsubishi seems to be very secretive in their testing which always seems like there may be problems when someone is that quiet. Don't get me wrong, not saying there are problems just that Mitsubishi has been very quiet about the status of their program.

The MRJ should be booking more orders by now. Correction, they must be booking more orders by now.
With the potential of large cancellations due to delays and scope clause issue in the U.S. putting pressure on the order book, while on the other hand having a tremendous platform with huge potential, the MRJ sales team just need to do a better job.

There is life in the Q400 yet. This is a plane for which we know there is the scope to re-engine and stretch to near 100 passengers reducing costs per seat considerably in the process.

These 3 Q400 orders are a huge boost to the program and to BBD as a whole. Assuming the SpiceJet order gets firmed up, that'll + PAL + ET will add another 2 years of production at current production rates.

Even if there aren't any CSeries orders at Paris, a couple of CRJ orders would really give that program a boost too.
