strange for IAG to split the order... maybe a A321LR sub-fleet with the P&W engines?

It looks like the aircraft for Vueling will be powered by PW whilst the aircraft for BA (which includes 10 A321neos) and IB will be CFM

Thanks for the input guys. Indeed a split order, IAG seems to be hedging their bets, and I think this is a very interesting move. Taking a little gamble with the PW's for LCC Vueling, and going for less risk with mainstream IB/BA. Will be interesting to see what engine will be powering the A321LR for EI!

Well, the EI ones are coming from lessors who responded to RFP's, so it's in the lap of the lords as to their engines.

It's strange, as IAG had previously suggested that they would like planes to be interchangeable between airlines in the IAG group. This adds a level of difference that does not necessarily need to apply.

Would like to understand the reasoning for this!

I really hope we see some major A350 orders (my dream is that there are 100 of them, but that seems like a long shot) because it is a great 777 replacement and a fantastic aircraft overall (plus it looks SMOKIN' HOT). IMO the A330neo will get a few orders as well, while the A320neo is already past the 100 mark. Apart from the 20 by EK the A380/plus probably won't get any orders, then again any order for that is a blessing.

EK is not expected to order 20 A380s at this time. With the Dubai air show this year any order that they do place will probably be made there in November.

Oh yeah I forgot about that. Don't they place most airshow orders there (except the 777X)?

I guess that with the scale of IAG's narrow body fleet they gain the ability to place orders in penny packets with the best value supplier. IAG can keep the two suppliers honest.

Another A320neo engine order:

https://www.cfmaeroengines.com/press-ar ... gine-deal/

ICBC Leasing, a subsidiary of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), today signed an agreement with CFM International to purchase the advanced LEAP-1A engine to power 40 Airbus A320neo aircraft. This engine order is valued at more than $1.1 billion U.S. at list price. The aircraft order was announced in 2012.

I'd have thought Iberia Engine MRO would also be interested in MRO work for both engine types too!

Looks like JetBlue is getting A330neos, would have liked to see some 787s for them but A330neo makes sense for them and their plans.

Excellent choice, if true. 787 is too much of a plane for them, MoM would've been better, but B6 can't wait, I presume.

The A330-800 / -900 and 787-8 / -9 are effectively interchangeable in terms of capacity. The 787-9 will handily out-range an A330-900, but I don't think B6 needs more than JFK-based TATL range where the A330-900 is fine.

It'd be a lot easier for B6 to train pilots for the 330 who already have 32x type rating.

My thoughts as well, though if you're going strictly on a per seat basis, then I'm thinking the 787-10 is in the running as well.

I would think though, given JetBlue's Airbus fleet, they might get a nice deal on A321neos with some A330neos...

I think this is the most logical solution for them given all the reasons stated so far. I would imagine A330NEOs are a lot cheaper than 787 and 350. And it would cover all of the logical routes out of JFK/BOS and FLL. Could go with 8 across Y & and 7 across PE.

Good strategic thinking. Don't put all of the group's NB fleet on one engine. Monitor real world performance, parts pricing and support. And flexibility to jump either way with each new acquisition.

The Paris Air Show in the middle of the night on East Coast USA (from "within the next 12 hours) seems like an odd time/venue for B6 to announce they are starting intercontinental flights by ordering the A330neo. I figured that is something that B6 would announce in New York on their own day without sharing any spotlight. But who knows.

Not bad at all. IMO firm orders are what it's all about.
But I hope we'll see an A322 launch later this year

Hahaha, he just did a fb live at Airbus pent, showing audience all the Airbus models line up at PAS2017. When A380 was shown, he said "An aircraft we will never buy". When A321 was shown "this is my favourite aircraft"

I think those crew mentioned by zkojq is there for Skytrax award...9th time world's best low cost airlines perhaps?? They didn't send any A320 for promo this time though.

It could be that Airbus walks out of Paris with more additional firm orders for the A321neo, than Boeing for the 737-10.

so, net orders for Boeing are around 170 (including B787s)

Airbus already has 202 genuine new orders.

The overwhelming number of MoUs for the 737-10 and zero firm orders suggests that at this time Boeing is not yet allowed to walk out of Paris, or anywhere, with firm orders for the 737-10. They need board approval first.
