CHS-SEA almost 7.5 hours flight time today

Wed May 24, 2017 10:23 pm

I didn't realize the 737-700 could fly that long.

Actually there is an unscheduled stop in MSP.

The 737-700 actually has a longer flying distance than most of the other 737s.

Because of unfavorable winds?

FR24 shows the route being operated by a 739. N407AS

Before the 739 hate comes, on the 22nd a B738 also stopped in MSP.

Thunderstorms in the midwest. Much longer flight times due to vectoring.

Is this the Boeing - Boeing plant shuttle?

Yes, but wondering how it is doing as far as non-Boeing business is concerned.

Minor point, but it's "deviating", not vectoring. Aircraft will deviate north/south/east/west/left/right around weather, typically at the aircraft's request.

7 hours is a heck of a trip for a transcon. Usually you don't see numbers like that outside of the winter months. Heck, my flight a few days ago from ICN-LAX wasn't much longer! Aside from deviations, they must have a monster headwind.

Unless I missed something, 737s are only built in Renton. CHS is only building the two larger 787 variants. This is a regularly scheduled route.

I believe he means a plant shuttle for workers, but as you said it's a regularly scheduled route that could be used for such purpose.

Ah, I misread that! That indeed would have to play a factor on an otherwise relatively random route. Well it sucks for those guys, because they've got a long flight home.

I guess still better than connecting, at least they know they'll make this flight! :o
