That was super interesting! I wish there was more of it. I guess it's an easy story because it's told from a single persons perspective rather than a massive team.

Way cool!!! I would love that job! Who wouldn't? Imagine the horror of having to fly to France and watch the plane get built?!!! LOL!!

Now that would be one of the best jobs in the world. My wife and I would make a perfect team doing this for an airline.

For the larger airlines, I am pretty sure that they have already set up their requirements for interior design before they even go to the manufacturer. I am pretty sure this process is a lot less daunting with them, as all they do is put a book down in front of A & B and tell them that they want their cabins to look like *this*.

It really is surprising how open the Allegiant folks were about admitting their naivete regarding aircraft interiors, but I wouldn't necessarily label that as evidence of overall incompetence. I don't expect Interior Design to be a core competency for airlines. The article compares it to buying a house, but I would compare it to building a house. When you buy or rent an existing home, it comes with everything done, from window coverings to flooring to exterior landscaping. Having just built a new home, I can tell you that there is a huge list of decisions and unexpected costs when you start from scratch. It can can be overwhelming for even an experienced homeowner. When in doubt, you say, "do it just like the model home--that looked good!" It's no different for Allegiant to say, "Why can't we use the Easy Orange?"

Maybe the whole article is just a reflection of a relaxed corporate culture -- perhaps the entire interview was that sort of playful exaggeration, meant to be a brain-teaser for an uninitiated audience. It's like how I talk to my kids (and some adults) about my job. I know exactly what I am doing (most of the time), but I like to play it up.

I do agree with the response article, however, that it was weird that Allegiant was so focused on using Easyjet's orange versus you know, using the same orange as on their logo.

I'm more surprised Easyjet was ok with letting them use the Easy Orange.

I'll also add I laughed about how G4 was so concerned about keeping consistentency with the tails when they are painting the planes in a new livery.

(Obviously the real reason is they don't want to pay extra costs when repainting fleet)

I think in reference to the second article, the moral of the story is "Know your customer." Allegiant knows their customer and more or less used that (and cost) as a guide on making decisions. Chiding them for the orange stripe or having never bought a new aircraft is just silly.

about the second article, I'm not sure the author has spent much time in the corporate offices at airlines. You'd be surprised how little some people are tuned into things, including those in the executive suites. Especially when it comes to new ventures. So, it probably did take them by surprise. I found the article interesting - but as the 2nd article discusses - Allegiant has never done this before so for them, they had to find someone to throw the project at. Whereas I've done contract work for an airline whose CEO was involved in picking out the color of the carpets...

either way, both articles are worth reading.

That second article just seems to be a hatchet job on Allegiant. Surely keeping the interior of the aircraft as close to that of their existing fleet can't be a bad thing. The author praises EZ for doing it and then criticizes Allegiant for doing the same thing!

I had no clue that these were all options! Is there anywhere I could find an options list for buying a new Airbus or Boeing?

I honestly hope they roll this livery out across all the Airbus fleet.

I wonder if they did the seats as BFE? Allegiant got cozy with Jet2 a few years back and part of that was sharing the seat design LS use. It's lightweight, and made by Acro.
