Overstatement of the week, perhaps? Looks to me very much like an increase.
They are changing from an 86 seat 737 to a 262 seat A333.
Also, what's your definition of "BOS losing a lot of international capacity"? CX has gone daily, AV starts in June, BA has upgauged to A380, DY is adding Cork-BOS, and there are rumors that TP will increase from A332 to A333. Yes EK has dropped 1 of the 2 flight but BOS is not just EK.

Is the NK MCO-PHL increase new? That will be ~5x day ULCC MCO-PHL flights.
flymco753 wrote:Before someone flips about DL cutting frequency at DTW, it's because of capacity increase, BUF, CVG and ROC will no longer utilize single class cabins. DCA went from all 717 to a mix of Airbus, and TPA was just cut by 1 739, probably because some of the equipment will change to the 757 once they start working on winter schedules.

Which would represent an increase in capacity, right? Not sure what OP was referencing about BOS losing a lot of international capacity. Only other thing that comes to mind is EK going to 1x daily, but that wasn't BOS specific as it included cuts to FLL, MCO, SEA, LAX, BOS and JFK.

Is this pulling out the flight for which they were covering a frequency that KL normally flies, or something else?

UA SFO-PHL up to 3 definitely looks like a reaction to AS/VX. Starting in the low season right when the VX flight begins. And UA has been offering bare minimum capacity on SFO-PHL ever since the US/AA merger as demonstrated by the less the 2x daily.

They've added a morning westbound flight that catches most or all of the China connections and HKG but arrives too late for ICN and KIX. The existing eastbound flight catches most of the same Asia connections and stays at the same time; the new eastbound flight is a redeye. That is what it is for O&D, but it will be great for added connecting options coming back from the west coast.
BNA-ZOA has gone from 0 flights to 4 in less than 5 years. That's a lot of capacity; the hub probably gives UA an upper hand.

I still have to think they expect those AS SEA markets to get SFO. but obviously they would have the 2nd trip make good connections.

AS has announced BNA-SFO (operated by VX). You were right and didn't even know it.

Fine on this one, but they still lost an entire RT on EK. Sure JFK did too, but in JFK its a drip of water in a sea, much more impactful in BOS. They also lost Norwegian to the Caribbean it appears. TK has also reduced frequency.
BOS capacity on routes over 3000 miles is down 4% this Summer. The USA as a whole on +3000 miles is up 6%, so comapratively BOS is 10% behind.
adamh8297 wrote:Also DL BOS-DUB, VS MAN-BOS, MT increasing MAN-BOS, AB going daily summer and going year-round 4-5 weekly, S4 has almost doubled PDL service, HU BOS-PEK is now year round and even TK went back to 5 weekly non peak from 4.
DL is also throwing the kitchen sink at Caribbean Destinations for Xmas/New years
LH has trimmed capacity on BOS-FRA and I don't think A350 is an increase on BOS-MUC
DL and their JV partners have tweaked LHR and CDG a bit that's where a lot of the decrease has come from.
The DY one is interesting - it looks like JFK is almost going daily to French Caribbean... Maybe BOS/BWI-French Caribbean got the ax. Maybe they only become weeklies (better idea).

4% down from an all time record high is not my definition of "losing a lot of international capacity".
Given all the increases reported above, I'd put my money on a capacity stagnation. And 3,000mi doesn't cover the new BOG route either or the Caribbean increases.adamh8297 wrote:Also DL BOS-DUB, VS MAN-BOS, MT increasing MAN-BOS, AB going daily summer and going year-round 4-5 weekly, S4 has almost doubled PDL service, HU BOS-PEK is now year round and even TK went back to 5 weekly non peak from 4.

I agree, AF, LH, and EK probably combine for the capacity drop. some of those flights have had awful LF's for the last couple of years. Passenger are still up 14% thru March.
