A Few DL L-1011 Questions...

Thu Aug 19, 1999 11:25 pm

Hey Everyone,
Here are a few questions about DL's L-1011s I dont know the answers to:

1.) Does Delta use any of their L-1011s on overseas routes. The only one that is semi-overseas is LAX/ATL/DFW-HNL/OOG.
2.) Are any of them in the new colours yet. If not, are any of them going to be in the new colours?

Pretty sure that they are all staying on the domestic routes. None are in the new
colors and I do not think any will be repainted since they are due to be retired
in the next couple of years. The fleet is down to 28 or 29 now.

Yes, DL1011 is correct.

The only over-water routes the Delta L-1011 flies are to/from Hawaii. Mostly 767s and a few 777s and MD-11s over the Atlantic.

I would like to see at least 1 painted in the new colors. Make it the last one to be retired.

One special L-1011 is being painted in new colors and has a new flightdeck along with interior and engines. Some L-1011's have been brounght out of retirement and will be completely redone so that the 777's can be sold.

DL is not replacing 777s with L1011s. no aircraft are scheduled to be painted, and no aircraft will/have received new interiors or engines. where did you hear that junk?

I remember reading less than a year ago that Delta had replaced it's last remaining L-1011 overseas route with a more modern aircraft. I can't remember for sure what that route was... I want to say that it was a flight to/from Istanbul, but I'm not sure.

I think the last L1011 flight was from VIE back to the U.S. but I am not sure.
Give me a couple of days and I'll try to find out for sure.

I think it would be a waste to entirley reseat and paint a L1011 that will be trashed (or whatever) in 5 years! Wow! I never realized that DL still had so many L1011s! Just to tell you, for October, one of Herpa Wing's planes will be a DL L1011 in old colors. I don't know what that means, but I think that might be a sign that Delta will not repaint any of its L1011s. The last DL 1011 flight was NOT a couple of years back, go to Georgia, go to LAX and you will see a DL L1011 or two.

With the retirement of the 777 from the fleet it may be possible that DL is pulling some L1011s out of the desert and putting them back on some routes. They did it before with their DC-8s.

No Delta L1011s will be painted in the new colors. They serve domestically now, replaced on overseas routes mainly by MD-11s. Despite what a few other posts have indicated, these planes have not and will not be brought out of retirement because of the 777 situation. Delta will put the 767-400 on most of those 777 when they are delivered.

It looks like the last international Delta L1011
flight was on Nov 30,1998. It was flight 147
from Vie to Atl.

How can most of the people be so sure no L1011 will be painted in the new colours, do you all have a crystal ball or something? Understand that a D-check might be relevant whether any DL L1011 aircraft receives a new color as anyway they will strip off all paint and they can then apply the new colors instead of the old.
Anyone knows any D-checks due for any DL L1011 ?

JMWAirtrans, we were talking INT'L last L0111 flight...

CX747, reportedly 3 L1011s are for overhaul at ATL and then will re-enter service (in new colors...??? hehe...)
