Because the Pokemon livery was one of the most iconic ever and probably got ANA lots of good PR?

Indeed, that is a visual disaster. It screams tacky and cheap.

I think the letters are actually black, but I confess I try not to look too hard. And to think that's the actual livery, not just a one-off.

As for specials, it's a deep bench of really garish stuff, but that's sometimes the point. I don't think the one in the OP is anywhere close to the worst. That prize has to go to one of the corporate tie-in ones: the Crossair McDonald's one comes to mind (although maybe that's what Norwegian's livery would look like on a Mad Dog if only someone finished unrolling the condom). That Alaska Disneyland one was horrendous, too.

As an ULCC, tacky and cheap is likely precisely what Spirit wishes to convey - so it's obviously working  (the lettering is black though).

Maybe, but still ugly as hell.

There's photo of it in the air on the front page of a.net now and I have to say I think it actually looks pretty nice. Not ugly in any way IMHO

Spirit should just embrace the taxi livery fully with Spirit in plain lettering above the windows and a checker taxi livery below it. It looks like a NYC taxi.

I think Uzbekistan Airways takes top prize for ugliest paint scheme even if it isn't a special livery.

Shows how subjective taste and perception can be. I actually really like the Uzbekistan livery - great representation of their flag. With some sort of retro flair to it.

I'm surprised no one has brought up United's God awful livery.

These liveries aren't bad at all IMO, especially the hello kitty ones, which do well to blend in nicely with the existing EVA colors

Some people have mentioned Wunala Dreaming, I always thought it was an Anet favourite, what am I missing? :?:

ANYTHING with color would be seen as an improvement from the normal colors. Same thing goes with JAL's new colors.

People, let's please keep the focus on special liveries. Regular liveries shouldn't fit this thread!

Anyway, about the stated liveries on previous replies...

1) I really loved Wunala Dreaming and the other Aboriginal colors...
2) Uzbekistan Airways livery is actually so nice, I like it. The colors are vibrant and it's not an eye sore IMHO.
3) Air Jamaica livery was also great IMHO.
4) ANA Pokémon jets were simply amazing. EVA Air Hello Kitty was nice to 1 or 2 planes, doing it on various planes is unnecessary. But it doesn't look bad...

5) That TAP 737-300 really looks awful.
6) TAM A320 with "Blu" livery was really strange indeed.

7) and last one: sorry, but I still think the Rotten Banana 737 i've posted earlier is the worst special livery of this thread hahahahahaha

Honestly, I'd say that this MU special livery is perfectly fine. I don't see any problems with it. Most of the other ones mentioned are also good enough in my eyes.

I lucked out & got to fly the 727-200 Calder in 1979 & one guy in the waiting area for the flight said "It looks like they gave a monkey a few cans of paint". I've obviously never forgotten the experience, a iconic livery, but not my favorite either.

It was known as the "Rotten Banana" among Brazilian spotters!
It's striking and very eye-catching, but is simply looks ugly.

That's horrifying.

Yikes, I hadn't seen that one before. I hereby retract my earlier comment about the Aeroflot one.

I agreed 100%, I disliked the SU, but when I saw this casserole livery, I took it back. Now that I look at it, the SU one is far too busy for my taste, but there is some beauty to the ornate designs. This one looks like a whole bunch of cotton balls used to soak up puss. Yuk!

I don't think the livery is too bad... better than the standard bland all white scheme they have a bit of colour is welcome

Going against the general consensus, I don't mind the livery at all, at least some one this time used their imagination and any thing is much much better than their current livery, I bet Air France the airline that introduced us to the original Euro white scheme must look at MU's new livery and laugh.
