In Australia I see ANA launching MEL

Unfortunately I don't think MIA is in the cards for NH. NH is a strong Star Alliance member tied closely to UA.
If AA/JL don't fly MIA-NRT, doubtful they would add MIA.

Both JL and NH have made statements about additional destinations in Australia but time will tell whether they follow through.

LO is already flying to Tokyo from WAW. PRG has a long desire for a direct flight to Japan, BUD is the smallest of the four, pax numbers wise, with large LCC operations in place. Take your guess

NH flies to both SJC and SEA...neither of those airports are strong Star Alliance destinations. I'm not sure if MIA has the population to warranty such a long distance flight.
whywhyzee wrote:I can definitely see YYZ to augment AC's daily HND service. MIA seems like another good potential route, yes, it is long, and not to a star hub, but it would be the first MIA-Asia flight, which gives them a chance to really grab hold of that market and carve out a strong customer base before competitors arrive.

JL does not fly to SEA (did years ago on an ORD-SEA-NRT touting).
SJC is close to SFO, a big Star Hub, but is it's own airport and a city with over 1m people and courting international routes.

Central Europe also includes Germany, Slovenia and Switzerland. The German market is already well covered with 3 destinations. No idea how a flight to TXL would work. NH flights charters to Slovenia during Summer and so is doing to Geneva and Zurich. I think that a flight to Switzerland has a good chance. I would shortlist VIE, ZRH and GVA although only GVA doesn't have direct flights to Japan yet. I know that GVA is on NH possibility list but the company wants to see the new East Wing built (in 2020) and more feeder flights (could happen with the LX C-Series).

Berlin one of the main city destinations in Europe and an increasingly wealthy market with little connectivity to Asia?

What kind of customer flies to MIA?
1. AA Connections to South America. That doesn't make sense for ANA, since it is heavily in Star. Bolstering capacitiy to LAX would be smarter for ANA.
2. Florida-bound tourist. That doesn't make sense since Japanese tourists have Hawaii, Micronesia/Polynesia, and Indonesia much closer to them than Florida.
3. Locals. Miami isn't a tremendous city, so they're not enough of a justification on its own.
NRT-YYZ to offer more connections for Canadians on the Asian end could be sensible.

Getting back on topic,
If ANA is going to start any new city in Central Europe or Australia, it will probably be Vienna on a 787 in order to fill the void that Austrians departure from the TYO market left. Other than that I can see ANA complementing SWISS on the NRT-ZRH route, this will allow SWISS to free up some aircraft to use on other routes and also allow for more frequency.
