Virgins 747 back at LHR, nice to see.

Fri Apr 21, 2017 11:53 am

I notice G-VGAL has been doing the JFK run last couple of days, are they short of aircraft?

Could be the start of the summer season...

And on a slightly related note, I see on its schedule that the seasonal GLA-MCO returns which means one more VS 747 during rush hour. It's pretty unbelievable how many VS 747's come down to MCO. On a good day, I've counted 6, and when the Lufthansa and Delta 747 were here at the same time, I've counted 7. On a "bad" day, you can expect to see at least 4, 5 if you count LH. You can now add G-VGAL to that list :D

I guess they are short of aircraft currently as some of the A333s are in for the J refit. DL is flying MAN - ATL on certain days of the week because of this.

G-VGAL positioned late into GLA this morning and is currently enroute to MCO. The GLA-MCO season gets longer every year and started one month early in March this year, it will run until November and same is planned for 2018 season AFAIK.

God, I love VS (and Richard Branson)! I hope that the Queen Of The Skies will be flying this route regularly.

Amazing what a difference a new livery makes. These look early 00's (as they are), compared with the new uniform that looks great IMO.

That's one hell of an equipment swap.

What is it normally? 753?

The VS 744 is temporary back at LHR due to a temporary aircraft shortage as a result of a 787-9 tech and an A340-600 tech. The only slack in VS fleet right now is the 744 fleet which is why on occasion one is ferried over to LHR when aircraft go tech.

This is separate to A330 refit which has had minimal impact to VS schedule which has accounted for aircraft going out for maintenance.

DL aircraft are subbing certain VS routes e.g. the MAN ATL route due to separate issue.

Thanks. Is that a crewing issue (the DL swaps?).

The good old days of VS 744s serving JFK.

I was curious to see what they were sending to EWR and shocked that it's down to a single A333. Guess the VS 744 will not be seen at EWR anymore unfortunately.
How come I can't upload an avatar photo to my profile?

I believe there is some sort of issue with the RR engines as well and some work needs to be done across the whole 787 fleet in the coming weeks/months.

With only 14 J seats on the 747 verse 45 on the A346 I guess there is a chance of some UC passengers might be bumped to other flights.
