I think they did MSP/PHX seasonally as well at one point. I remember seeing an NW 747 at PHX a couple of times in the 90's. I don't think they were sports team charters so could have been scheduled flights, not sure.

AC had at least one daily 747 YYZ-YVR roundtrip during the 1970s. It was a westbound dinner flight, and I assume that it returned eastward the following morning. It was a 747-133.

CP Air competed with 747s on the same route.

A friend of mine rode it YYZ-YVR in 1979 - the Friday of Victoria Day weekend. He said the load was light, which surprised me. I'd be curious to know how those 747 transcons generally did, or whether they were mainly for competetive 'show'. By 1979, there were plenty of L1011s around, at slightly smaller capacity.

My first 747 flight was SEA-DEN on a United -400 in the summer of 1999. Might have been a one-off but I think it was scheduled, since we booked our SEA-MSP on United instead of Northwest just to bag that 744 plus a 772 from DEN-SEA.

That's probably about right. Up until when it went nonstop, UA marketed DEN-NRT as being a direct flight with a stop in SEA. I could be wrong, but UA even sent domestic 763s on DEN-SEA up until the late 2000s.

875/876 DEN-SEA-NRT-SEA-DEN was 744 then 77E. I don't remember exactly when, but either due to mx rotations and the occasional utilization repo, DEN inbound would occasionally be a 744 and turn back to DEN while NRT 77E inbound would go back to NRT.

Also turned a couple one off ORD-SEA-ORD 744 and 763 during Christmas season to move excess cargo the 752s couldn't handle in the couple of years I worked at SEA.

Are there any current domestic 747 flights remaining?

Yes, I remember those YYZ-YMX-CDG (ORY, I really doubt it, though…). With my parents and sisters, we knew that if the plane had started from Toronto, there would hardly be any window seat left available…

After CO absorbed Peoplexpress around 1987 I saw CO (ex-PE of course) 747s at DEN on several occasions. Actually I just saw response #20 says EWR-DEN so there you have it.

UA ran oddball domestic 747s into SEA every now and then for awhile...Maybe to repo birds for their former LHR/NRT flights? NW did this as well, but I definitely remember MSP being a scheduled 742 for awhile. BR flew SEA-EWR with a nighttime 744 for years.

AC 870/871 (the number still exists today) flew with 747 equipment YYZ-YUL-ORY, then YYZ-YUL-CDG, then YYZ-YMX-CDG.

With regard to seat choice, YYZ and YUL split up the seat chart in blocks in advance. Then when it left YYZ, the ORY destined passengers' seat numbers where teletyped to YUL and their seat chart adjusted to add the remaining unused YYZ seats gained. (They used seat sticker charts in the early days). I don't know the actual numbers, but I would guess less than 25% of the passengers out of YUL to ORY would have originated in YYZ.

The interesting thing is that computer seat assignment started about the same time that YMX opened up. AC870 used to sell local seats YYZ-YMX, but only to International flights connecting out of YMX. The computer could better handle those through and not-through seat assignments. But I recall, that even then blocks on the YMX-CDG seat chart were always blocked off from YYZ passengers, even though going to CDG, to keep it "fair" for YMX passengers. In those days, you could only select a seat up to 6 hours in advance.

Seat sticker charts, yes, I remember those. Passengers corresponding in YMX, as well.

Thanks for the precision.

What about current domestic US routes.. Are either Delta or United flying them on any domestic routes? I'm especially interested in Delta.

Never knew that. Weird, I was 12 too. Since all my flying was on TW, I guess I never really looked too hard.

I wish I knew for sure but I think Air France had service from Paris to Chicago O'Hare via Montreal on a 747. This would have been approximately 1978. I don't know about and passenger rights on the Montreal - Chicago sector. I certainly wish I had kept a log of my flights back then. IIRC The flight from Chicago to Paris was a non-stop.
