Please enlighten us how the livery reminds you of Portuguese colonization and how that is offending to you.

Maybe "offensive" is too strong of a word, but for those of us who grew up in the colonies (and I am one of them), that livery represented the "colonizing power", and to this day it's still associated with the colonial era and the dictatorship of Antonio Salazar. However I do agree that the relationship between Portugal and Brazil is much different than between Portugal and its African colonies, much of it because as stated above, Brazil gained its independence a lot earlier and as a colony was never exposed to the dictatorship of Salazar.

It sounds as if you have some trauma associated with that livery.

The livery now applied to the A330 was launched shortly after the airline was privatized for the first time. The "colonizing power" would be more evident with its first and second liveries, when TAP was not even a company but a state service:

Still awaiting the launch event and entry in service due to a longer than expected certification process.
EDIT: Here's a close up on the nose. Appropriately, the bird will be called Portugal. :D

More on CS-TOV here https://airwaysmag.com/airlines/tap-unveils-retro-a330/

Personal opinion: It's nice to see this paint scheme return to the skies.

The tail will be painted in Lisbon.

"Highlight sun and surf as attractions in Portugal? Are they in the Caribbean now?"

Really? Really that you said that?????

Have a talk with Garrett McNamara and he will say something about surf in Portugal.

About Sun, on that you beat me.

The white tail will be painted in LIS with the usual TAP scheme, plus a bonus detail. You haven't seen the other side of the livery yet, I presume... The choice of items represented in this livery is of course debatable. But in most of the northern hemisphere Portugal is known for its sunny climate and wavy sea among other things, so I don't see what is the problem with that.

Actually there's not a lot of surf in the Caribbean, certainly not world class.
Meanwhile, Portugal is THE premier European destination for surf and sun, hosting competitions from the world surf league.
From the end of May until early November, the southern half of Portugal hardly gets a drop of rain. Portugal's climate is incredibly similar to that of California. There's a reason why they have the same problem with wild fires and drought.

I mean compared to the rest of Europe Portugal is known for its sun. Granted that is by European standards, which is much colder and dreary than many, many, other parts of the world.

Okay guys, please allow me to rephrase my comment:
I meant: why highlight sun and surf as the major Portugal attractions instead of the iconic and endless other atractions they have to offer which can clearly be seen along the fuselage?
I'm not questioning Portugal warm and friendly weather, I know that, have double citizenship and have been there several times, the last one last april and had pleasant and lovely times at Nazaré and Estoril beaches like no other in Europe, including Spain.
Just said that the sun and surf shouldn't be the 1st thing people see in a Portuguese airliner by being in the front of the fuselage. Just my 2 cents.
But you all got your point, thanks for that.

But I'm still with the first retrojet one.

Please share other side fuselage pics with us and full painted bird when you have it.
Have all you guys a great weekend!

To be honest from an international point of view (remember this is a A330, not a A320) Portugal's sun and surf, along with maybe rolling vineyards (also on the fuselage), is probably the country's most "iconic" and well known attractions.

CS-TOW arrived today in Lisbon and is already inside TAP M&E Hangar (i believe the interior still needs to be installed). Expect it to enter service in the following days/weeks.

The fourth (and last) A330-300 from Singapore Airlines will have the "Air Portugal" titles on the tail since TAP will reassume its "TAP Air Portugal" trade name. This change will only take plane in Septemper, but in New York, the slightly modified logo, can arealdy be seen on the cabs:

As beautiful as this livery is I have to question the decision to fly this plane to Brazil and Africa. This livery represented colonial Portugal and if I were Brazilian or Mozambican, or Angolan I'd be a bit offended seeing it in my country. But I guess I'm being a bit over sensitive.

Awww...are you triggered? Does the livery trigger you?
