The retrojet will be quite impressive, being applied to a widebody aircraft. The Portuguese flag featured on the external side of the winglets was used on the fins of propeller driven aircraft.

Will be two good looking A330s! Although I've always wished they ordered and flew the 787. Where are they getting the A333s from and how many will they be getting?

Very nice indeed!!! I didn't know TP would be getting the A330-300. Where are these two A330-300's coming from? Are the actual second hand aircraft or brand new aircraft that were never taken up just like the first Iran Air A330-200? Which routes will these A330-300's be flying?

Reply 4 mentioned already where they're from. They're ex SQ, leased birds.

It was already mentioned, but here are some more details about them, all three 2009-manufactured:

Colour me surprised! Even I didn't expect TAP to be taking on Airbus A330-300's, assuming the lease for these came at a very good price... I will be intrigued to see where all of the other Singapore Airlines Airbus A330's will go when their leases are due.

Even so, the special liveries I look forward to seeing and will certainly look impressive... Interesting times ahead for TAP.

All 3 have been in service with Singapore Airlines since 2009.

Planespotters.net is your friend with TAP's 3 Airbus A330-300's they are due to receive. The airframes are expected to be 9V-STD/E/G... Of the 3, 9V-STD has been stored since January 2017, 9V-STE since February 2017 whilst 9V-STG is still in active service.

Most likely the north america routes (EWR, JFK, MIA, BOS, YYZ) and major south america ones (GRU, GIG), although it will finally depend on the demand.

Thanks Speedbird96. I was reading this thread from my mobile phone which I don't like due to the different lay out of mobile phones. So these birds are in very good condition seeing they're coming from SQ. Will TP retain the cabin of SQ (same first class product etc...)?

Well, SQ doesn't have lie-flat J seats on their A333's or premium economy so is TP upgrading the cabins on these A333's?
I would think that the most important routes would retain lie-flat J seats and premium economy,

For folks who haven't ever visited Portugal, my advice is "put it on your list". Lisbon and the rest of the country is a rich cultural experience on top of it's beauty and culture.

I love the retro version because I love retro-liveries, but I hope the other one "STOP-OVER" works as a great ad for the country.

I would love for TP to paint one of those A333's in the livery posted by member SpaceshipDC10 (think it is reply 4). The one worn by the their L1011's. That to me was their best livery.

Agreed 100%. Though since it was their last livery, it's probably too soon to call it "retro" but that definition varies, of course

The last aircraft sporting that livery was the A320 with tail number 'CS-TNE', until late 2008 - I guess. So, less than 10 years ago ;)

It looks like CS-TOV will be delivered today. Also, TAP Portugal will get an extra A333, making a total of 4 aircraft coming from Singapore Airlines. A330-243 CS-TOT has already left the fleet; CS-TOS and one of the seven A330-223 will also be phased out this year.

The retrojet livery on CS-TOV is about to be unveiled! :D
Rumour is that it should come out of paint later this week and do the first flight around the 20th. CS-TOU is already in service by the way, with a normal livery though.
But possibly the 4 A333 birds won't be doing much flying to north america, as main routes should be to south america.

It's almost shocking that none of the news outlets in Portugal have reported this as of this morning. just lots of bickering about the new administration and the close encounter with a drone.
As beautiful as this livery is I have to question the decision to fly this plane to Brazil and Africa. This livery represented colonial Portugal and if I were Brazilian or Mozambican, or Angolan I'd be a bit offended seeing it in my country. But I guess I'm being a bit over sensitive.

There will be a special inauguration flight with some guests on the 19th, and the first commercial flight will be on the 20th, LIS-SSA at 16h40 local time.

I have to disagree. The livery represents the company colours in the 50's through 70's, not the colonial country. Brazil is independent since 1822, a while before there was even aviation... Colonial history does not necessarily represent only negative things. Apart from the odd fanatics that will always exist on both sides, these countries nowadays live very well with their common past and have learned to build on that for positive cooperation instead of resenting it. Otherwise, there wouldn't be so many cultural and economical ties between Portugal and Angola and Mozambique, for example.
The decision to fly these planes (all of the A333 ex-SQ, in fact) mainly to Brazil and Africa is purely commercial. No need for anyone to feel offended by an aircraft livery.

Oh I'm sure it's commercial, I'm not doubting that but it's hard to separate that livery from colonial Portugal. That livery was used nearly from day one of the creation of TAP until 1980 and for those we lived thru it is very much associated with the colonial history. The first ever commercial flight for TAP was LIS-MAD, and the second was Lisbon-Luanda-Lourence Marques and called Imperial Air Line

That livery was launched almost ten years after the airline was set up and it was the third different livery/logo used by TAP. It was also the first new logo of the privatized airline. Being a long haul aircraft, of course it will fly every long haul routes of the network - whether they are associated with ex-colonial history or not.

Narrow-body aircraft of the fleet also fly to several destinations belonging to the former Portuguese colonies.

If you were Brazilian, you would never say something like that. The sentiments that exist between both countries are parallel to parent-child.

The native Brazilian civilizations that existed in Brazil were stuck in the Mesolithic. The ones that were assimilated into society did not carry with themselves a sense of belonging to a predecessor civilization that was annihilated by the Portuguese (and also Spaniards, Dutch and French).

That is not what I said. All I said is that I disagree that Brazilians in general see Portugal as a "parent" and not an exploiter/colonizer/oppressor. I do not see the livery as colonial (and I think it looks great).

Maybe "offensive" is too strong of a word, but for those of us who grew up in the colonies (and I am one of them), that livery represented the "colonizing power", and to this day it's still associated with the colonial era and the dictatorship of Antonio Salazar. However I do agree that the relationship between Portugal and Brazil is much different than between Portugal and its African colonies, much of it because as stated above, Brazil gained its independence a lot earlier and as a colony was never exposed to the dictatorship of Salazar.
