Will the old terminal still be used once the new terminal is complete? I don't see much wrong with Concourse C and D...

Here's a great photo from Gibbs showing the scale of the international concourse:

Rotunda of D will remain.

C will be torn down. Like the other concourse, maintenance costs are too high to be worth saving.

Love those new construction pics. That new concourse is going to be a bigger than I expected. Good to see.

I'm still struggling to see how this international terminal is going to look. The plans are a bit deceiving showing planes lined up parallel to main terminal building but does not show a concourse out to them? I guess we will just have to wait and see?

you are probably looking at renderings before A was added to the plans

I believe the ramp area behind concourse A is slated for remote RON (remain overnight) aircraft. That may be why the renderings show aircraft lined up there parallel to concourses B and C. The A gates will be perpendicular to B and C gates.

2001 was well on its way to breaking 10million, but for the obvious.

That said, it was in a fairly strong growth pattern. WN, for example, took until this year to equal the high of its pre-K schedule.

The AF fleet looks pretty limited. Is the 332 too big for Nola? Would a DL 767 be a better fit?

Posters on the DL Future Expansion thread are very negative about possible MSY-CDG flights. Some suggest that MSY-AMS would be more likely, although I don't know the daily fliers from/to either to be able to compare.

If an AF A332 is too big for Nola, then all DL 767s are, too. DL's 767s are either 208, 211 or 226 passengers while an AF A332 is 208.

Amsterdam is possible since its serviced by KLM and is the same Alliance with Delta that does at some point need a connection to europe.

I have a few questions regarding MSY:
1. When the new terminal is completed, will Concourses A,B,C and D be demolished and replaced with a new building, demolished and not replaced at all, or will they be repurposed for something else?
2. Is Norwegian still interested in MSY? If so, when will they possibly announce service?
3. Will any of the restaurants and shops that are in the current concourses be relocated to the new terminal?

D will stay (this is answered a few posts above today).

Hopefully, but someone may know if the airport is still talking to them or any developments.

Some, but the restaurant line up looks pretty good.

Unknown on the Norwegian front. Someone who works at the airport checked in an LH sales rep in town on business, but tough to say if that means anything since sales reps generally aren't involved in network planning decisions.

Also, UK Civil Aviation Authority published August pax numbers. Looks like the BA flight had a load factor of around 72% using 788 seat count in August. Given August is the heart of slow season for New Orleans, those are pretty good numbers. Year to date, load factor is approximately 78%. https://www.caa.co.uk/uploadedFiles/CAA ... alysis.pdf

A332 is quite a bit larger than a 767, in essentially every dimension.
It's just that AF does not have a very dense cabin.

By comparison:
DL has 26 more seats than AF in its A332s (longhaul config)
MS has 60 more seats than AF in its A332s (regional config)
MT has 114 more seats than AF in its A332s (charter config)

By the way, I hope the airport has plans to redo the website - that thing is ancient! What they really need is the ability to feature new service on the front page of the website. Many airports now have rotating banners to highlight particular routes and airlines.

I was also impressed by the overall size of the new addition.

Found this great font of info on another thread in the forum...http://sixelconsulting.com/Data/reports/Samples/State%20Report%20Sample.pdf. The data is for 2015. Unfortunately, NK, G4, and AS are not in this dataset.

I went through the airlines (listed from page 40 down), to see where MSY ranked in terms of revenue, O&D pax, and yield for each airline available. I limited the data to the top 50 stations ranked by O&D revenue. I was pleasantly surprised at how high we ranked for most airlines in terms of yield. Only DL had a yield in the middle of the pack.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1plHigRgiXRQGuSJ73rrn97WKlFFoWh8UdHRe_n0R7Gg/edit?usp=sharing

For WN...MSY ranked:
21st in O&D revenue between Fort Lauderdale and New York City.
23rd in O&D pax between Austin and Washington, DC.
15th in yield between San Antonio and Omaha.

For DL...MSY ranked:
26th in O&D revenue between Phildelphia and Houston.
24th in O&D pax between Philadelphia and Ft. Myers.
26th in yield between Salt Lake City and Philadelphia.

For AA...MSY ranked:
35th in O&D revenue between Columbus and Kansas City
34th in O&D pax between Columbus and Kansas City
14th in yield between Jacksonville and Kansas City

For UA...MSY ranked:
22nd in O&D revenue between Minneapolis and Philadelphia
22nd in O&D pax between Fort Lauderdale and Minneapolis.
21st in yield between Atlanta and Charlotte.

For B6...MSY ranked:
26th in O&D revenue between Denver and Oakland
34th in O&D pax between Philadelphia and Aguadilla, PR
18th in yield between Burlington, VT and Detroit.

Looks like BA is adding its expected Tuesday frequency increase early... the flight operated today, and seems set to continue doing so. They initially didn't plan to do so until the end of this month.

Good to see yet another sign of confidence in the market.

flew ba last night... really nice flight and i didnt see many empty seats on my flight except for five seats in my section which was economy plus (its a bit pricey i think for what they offer in that section).. just wish they had wifi on that plane. Overall it seems like on my flight about half were uk citizens so pretty interesting breakdown especially considering there was a saints game this past weekend there. it was very crowded in customs since Condor was there around same time

they all looked open.. they move the crowd fast.. id say the slowest part of the process and one they simply cant fix until the new terminal is the same problem we have with domestic flights. its timely delivery of luggage.

I think a lot of people went through Atlanta to go to London, we wanted to take the direct flight but it was twice the price and we booked our tickets back in February. I'm not sure if this is the common price difference for the flights or not. Also due to missing our connector we flew BA to London and DL on the way back and I must say the BA plane was nicer but the DL service was 10 times better. That was the first time I had flown BA. Yeah, BA's prices have been very high out of MSY. It's hard to believe that they can command those kinds of fares, but haven't been able to get to daily service yet. I want them to do well, but I'd rather see some competition so that people can actually afford to take the nonstops to Europe.

Condor is very reasonable... hope to see norwegian here if possible.. the price on BA for premium economy was really expensive but i paid it cause i wanted nonstop... i would like to see them get more aggressive on the pricing though but since they are the only game in town year round its not going to happen yet

What exactly is the status on recruiting a second year-round TATL from MSY, such as one from DL, DY, WW, etc?

Thanks for all the great pics and new airport updates!

I passed by Loyola Drive on I-10 and didn't see anything going on, isn't there going to be some kind of flyover ramp connecting I-10 to the airport?

Latest is the flyover ramps won't be done until 2023 at the earliest. Some tweaks to the Loyola interchange and Loyola/Airline intersection will be done before the terminal opens. That area will be a traffic mess for a few years before the flyover ramps are done. My plan is to exit at Williams and head over on Vets to Bainbridge if I need to pick up or drop off someone. We'll probably still park on the southside of the airport and shuttle over if we are flying out to avoid the Loyola interchange.

@ ADrum23 no news on any future TATL or international carriers at this point.

Very common. They often undercut even their own selves: can't tell you how many times I've sent friends/family on BA out of MSY, but via DFW.

Last time, via DFW was nearly $300 cheaper. For a family of 5, it took care of their hotel, and then some.
No way to justify taking the nonstop, especially since leaving early put them into LON at about the same time as the nonstop would've.

They've clearly chosen to fly the high-demand days and extract maximum yield, instead of diluting those yields in exchange for flying an arbitrary (in this case, 7) number of days.

They don't have much incentive to rush into higher frequency before it's absolutely necessary, as there's no one to steal the pax who value a nonstop-- and that's the one thing that pax in all classes of service will commonly pay a premium for.

Combine that with whatever those ships are doing on the 2 days they're not into MSY, and clearly BA sees that as the best fit, at least for now. If/when Norwegian, or perhaps even Virgin or Delta shows up... that could, and probably would, change. Heck, could change tomorrow.

But for now, they have people willing to pay $1500 for their coach, and quintuple that amount for their (shitty) biz class-- and BA seems content with it being
that way.

yes so this is why i think the airport needs to go hard after norwegian and air france/klm (joon could even work).. need some competition

Condor coming back

https://condor-newsroom.condor.com/en/u ... mmer-2018/

Slightly shorter season (May 17 - Sept. 30 v. May 3 - Sept. 27). Same size aircraft.

Re: adding competition for BA. While we would certainly like more flights and better fares, etc., I'd rather have successful BA service than competition to the degree that risks all carriers losing.

From friends who rode on the flight at various times during the summer said the flights were surprisingly full. It's a great and cheap alternative to get to Europe if you don't want to pay BA prices. You can still connect to other parts of Europe very easily from FRA.

BA + DE is a great lineup for a city the size of New Orleans.

DE's twice-weekly service is ideal for the leisure oriented nature of the airline. If aything, I'd like to see them extend the flight season to begin in mid-February so they can bring in tourists for Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest, but perhaps that will happen one day.

As the market to Europe matures, I think we'll see continued BA growth, and another discount carrier like Norwegian would not surprise me. BA has been doing gangbusters lately.

But right now...perfectly content with BA and DE. Many similar sized airports would love to have both of those carriers, let alone one of them.

I agree but i would like to see BA be a little more aggressive on their pricing.
