Fleet site lists 6 remaining 738x but 904AN is one of them (already painted.) So are there 5 left? 945AN, 958AN, 979AN, 864NN, 921NN?

I show N945AN, N958AN, N979AN, N856NN, N864NN and N921NN (Heritage livery?) yet to be painted, one of which should ferry tonight. N945AN arrives at ORD this evening and should ferry to GUS to swap out with N905AN.

So that leaves out at this point only 4 of them remaining in the old livery: N958AN, N979AN, N864NN and N921NN. Will N905NN remain in the Astrojet livery? Or has it been repainted already? It would be nice if they keep two 737s not to be painted in the current livery: one in Astrojet and the other one in the last silver livery (the one that lasted until 2013). It would also be nice if they keep N915NN, N916NN and N917NN in their TWA, Reno Air and Air Cal retro liveries respectively. Please don't hesitate to correct me if I am wrong somewhere.

That’s my understanding; one clAAsic, one Astrojet, N905NN, and the three retro or heritage liveries will remain for a total of five.

Is this a correct list of the complete set of retro liveries:
PSA (319)
Allegheny (319)
Piedmont (319)
America West (319)
TWA (738)
Air Cal (738)
Reno Air (738)
AA Classic (738)
Astrojet (738)
US Airways (321)

Any I'm missing? Besides the OneWorld planes, are there any other special liveries remaining besides the retro jets?

Can confirm that N905AN (ex-Flagship Freedom) is now in standard AA colors. Although that was to be expected.

N905NN was reassigned as the new Astrojet, as opposed to N951AN, which is now in the standard livery.

how many 752 are still in US tatl 12/164?

None. The last of them were just retired.

N941UW is still in the 75E config flying PHL-CUN.

By coincidence, I saw this airplane parked on the ramp in the classic livery and took a picture since I figured I wouldn't have many more opportunities with only a handful of planes left. I think this is probably the last photo of 3AD in bare metal, taken the morning it left for repaint:

What was AA's longest ever 757 route? DFW-KEF has got to be one of the longest current routes.

If Corporate knew the S80s would be in for this long, it may have made sense to paint a few of the newer ones in the new livery.

Maybe!

For T-Tailed planes in the fleet, the flag usually stops just under the horizontal stabilizer.

Looking ahead at the Q1 2018 schedules (February 23, to be exact), it looks like the M80s are all but gone from ORD. Just 11 daily departures to DEN (x1), SAT (x1), DFW (x1), MSP (x3), STL (x4), and DTW (x1). In the inbound direction the frequencies are the same except for there is an arrival from RDU and no arrival from DFW. There are still ~90 daily departures from DFW to all kinds of destinations. So perhaps by S18 the M80s will be entirely confined to DFW routes...

According to an internal memo that came out a couple of days ago, "the high-speed 'Gogo 2Ku' product will be added to around 130 Airbus aircraft, while ViaSat broadband equipment will be installed on more than 600 planes, including the new Boeing 737-MAX 8". The way I'm understanding this is that the LUS A319 and A320 fleets will receive the 2Ku upgrade as that would be the closet fleets to a total of 130 and all of the A321s will receive the ViaSat product as they go in for the cabin refurbishment.

If AA follows their Q3 fleet guidance, that should be all of the MadDog retirements for 2017.

Looking at Fleet Site, it shows 5 of 8 ERDs painted in new colors. One of them is the previously-painted flight school PR plane (856,) so why only paint 4 of 7 that came out of SJT? Did they need to press them into service that quick, which doesn't make much sense, as they've had nothing but time to prepare them. Or, is this an indication of what may be temporary vs permanent after the CR7s and E175s are fully in-service?

How exciting for frequent fliers to have to keep accounts with three different inflight Wi-Fi providers, between Gogo and ViaSat on the narrowbodies and Panasonic on the widebodies.

They talk about this in the memo as well. They are working on a single sign on/splash page for all three providers to make it seamless for customers so they will only need one log on that works across all providers. They also said they are taking control of pricing so the pricing will be the same no matter which system is on the plane.

So no plane in the old AA livery left at this point, other than the MD-80s and the very 737 they preserve in the clAAssic livery.

If American has extended the life of the remaining MD-80s till the end of 2019 (remember the original plan was to retire the last ones by now), then they should paint one of them in the new livery. At least one. I don't know if that will happen, most probably not, but if it ever does I won't be surprised. By the time the last MD-80 leaves it will be seven years American will have introduced its new livery.

According to https://sites.google.com/site/newamericanfleet/home and then eliminating the ones noted in this thread as having gone for paint, there are still three 737s and a 757, although the 757 is soon to be retired and I can't imagine it will be many weeks until the remaining 2 737s go for paint, so in effect you're right.

I too would like to see it, but even though it has been 5 years and counting, soncenthe MD-80 retirement has always been just around the corner, it never made sense, even though as you say with the delay in retiring them it would in hindsight have made sense.

No sense in painting an MD80 if the plan is to retire. Although all of the avgeek world would love it, it just doesn’t make good business sense.

And yet, AA painted Dash 8s in new colors, (even painted one in a special Piedmont retro livery), along with the E190 fleet and several 757s and 767s. These birds will be around as long as the MD80s will.

What is the story with 679? Will it be converted? It doesn't seem like they have enough 75's to cover all the scheduled flying

Thank you for the updated info. So my understanding is, it will be one of these thee 737s that will stay in the old livery.

Will it be possible for AA to re-engine the A321ceo to A321neo?

That is not something that any airline will do, or can do economically. The NEO is more than just new engines, there are other upgrades to the aircraft as well.

The A321 CEOs are still efficient and modern aircraft. They will be flown until their lifespan is up.

What's AA going to do with the PTV-equipped seats removed from the 32Bs and 38As?

Surely not financial sense.

The user doesn’t update as much as it should be, but that sounds about right.
