Looks like some 738's are getting red winglet tips for visibility. Anyone have more info? Will this eventually be fleet wide?

No photos in the database of this, but a google search returned this one: https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/8534273

Okay, so it's not just me then! I've seen at least 3x 738s with red tipped winglets! D: Someone please explain.

I wish they'd paint the whole tail on the winglet. Wouldn't that be a sight to see.

On the topic of winglets, are there any plans to install scimitars?

Its to increase visibility during ground operations. Personally I find the stripe to be painted in an inconvenient place as I feel that it is too high for most wing walkers to notice, it would do much better to be at the base of the winglet.

I believe all of the 738s and 32Bs will receive the red stripe but not the 757s, 767s or regional A/C. I'm not sure if the MAX & NEO will have them.

Unfortunately no.

No plans for any scimitars on our 737s, which is a poor decision IMO, given the overall size of the fleet.

Absolutely not! There is a zero percent chance of that happening! The new AA livery is good for 30+ years, if the previous livery is any indicator!

Look at Air France. They have kept the same livery for over 30 years. They introduced their bar code scheme in the late 70s and has kept it since then, only a slight modification to the bar code scheme was applied a few years ago.

Lufthansa hasn't changed in now 25 years.

KLM has kept its blue top for now over 40 years but has modified its cheatline no less than twice, from a white and thick dark blue cheatline, to a thinner dark blue cheatline, and now are painting their planes with a curved thin cheatline.

Speaking of Delta, it will soon be ten years that they introduced their latest corporate livery.

Only time will tell when American will introduce a new corporate livery. I don't think they are even thinking about that now, because they still have in mind finishing repainting the last few US Airways planes as well as the last planes in the old silver AA livery. If airlines change livery too often, people won't appreciate anymore. I know it has been repeatedly said that the MD-80s won't be repainted but when I read the latest update on American's fleet plan in Wikipedia, there are rumors that the MD-80 final retirement has been postponed to summer of 2018 and now postponed even further to early 2019, as the original plan was end of 2017. So, although the chances are slim, it is not impossible that at least one MD-80 will get the current scheme.

Pepsi Cola will change it's logo long before American changes theirs.

As best I can tell here is the OneWorld count:
3 x 738; 3FP, 3FR, 3KE
2 x 772; 7AY, 7BE
1 x 752; 5FN
1 x 763; 343
Not sure if any 321s will be delivered in OneWorld livery.

I'm showing 1 x 763, 7 x 752 and 34 x 738 for a total of 42 mainline in clAAsic livery. My understanding is the 763 and 752s will remain in clAAsic livery until retired.

That's correct. All AA classic livery aircraft besides the S80s will be retired by the end of this year.

S80s are retired by next summer.

I was on N907NN (3JS) day before last. She's still in the clAAssic livery.

There's something special about a Bare Metal AA 738 with the Sky Interior ;)

It will be interesting to see the new Astrojet and any subsequent retro liveries. Will they be painted on grey?

Mesa CR9 N326MS ferried PHX to ROW yesterday for new livery, replacing N329MS and N246LR which returned from ROW to PHX with new livery. This leaves only Mesa N914FJ in the US livery for the CR9 fleet.

Further updates based on new livery photographs removes some listed items so that these remain in US livery: [it is possible that even some of these have recently been repainted].

Republic - E175 [4 only]
N101HQ
N118HQ
N120HQ
N124HQ

Air Wisconsin - CRJ200 [5 only]
N406AW
N409AW
N410AW
N422AW
N443AW

Mesa - CRJ900 [3 only].
N914FJ
N249LR
N326MS

The Dash8 [US livery] and Skywest/Expressjet other CRJ200 [old AA Eagle or US] fleets are not considered due to expected retirement.

A friend of mine is a 738 Captain. He has complained about the gray/silver paint only on the winglets, since the day the first 738 appeared in the new livery.

His argument is that the split winglet on the 738 MAX has to have some color. Since the winglet drops below the wing, like the scimitar winglet, he thinks that ground vehicles can and will run into them, absent a contrasting color.

I'm sure that the red at the top of the winglet makes the wigntip more visible from the cockpit, but I'm not sure how easy it would be for someone driving a catering truck or tug pulling a string of baggage carts.

I bet that painting the tail stripes would be rather expensive. But, the logo would probably work well.

I believe there is one more out there in the LUS livery (part of me wants to say it is 244LR but I seem to remember that one getting painted) as we had two on the ground at the same time, one of which was 326 and the other was a NextGen as well.
