It's a pity that Kuwait Airways did not inform SNN operations of this, they were supposed to be there until Sept and many companies have hired new staff in recent weeks to facilitate this flight. First anyone heard or the flight moving to Manchester was from the link above.

The KU117 is still listed as non stop from 26th March, so one wonders if the MAN stop will happen.

KU will announce MAN stand alone flights in July for an Oct 1st start.

I think they operated to Japan in the past as well, they did codeshare on Air China to Beijing when CA served KWI some years ago., its the only Gulf carrier not to venture into China on its own.

KU are moving New York tech stop to London Stansted Airport from Shannon starting from April, if all their flights are via SNN and later STN shouldnt they be extempted from the US rule on devices?

The UK on Wednesday also made similar notices to the recent US ruling regarding electrical devices such as laptops, etc but seeing it's a tech stop I don't how that will affect those items on this KU flight to New York with the stopover at STN.

Good news for Stansted though for getting this stopover and a transatlantic flight too albeit only a tech stop but still a good addition to the airports ever increasing airline portfolio.

What, no DTW? This thread is not realistic without DTW!

DTW fanboys, chill out. MIA and BOS fanboys have a sense of reality and must be of age and have real jobs!

Considering this airline's rattletrap fleet was static at 15 Airbuses and 2 Boeings for the last 2+ decades, fair to say this sort of expansion is the first of its kind this century.

So the Tech stop is still in Shannon, I just saw the KU on approach into SNN. When is this moving to London Stansted?

It's not moving to STN any more. It's staying at SNN after a deal to keep fire cover for the B77W was made.

Kuwait Airways has potential, but if there's going to be a ME4, Oman Air is better placed for growth. Kuwait's new hard product is pretty good, and they can fly to both Saudi and Qatar but:
  • Don't accept Israeli passengers, even for transit. UAE, Oman and Qatar do.
  • Poor reputation
  • KWI - airport needs a total teardown. No shops, poor food, drab. Bad for connecting. Realistically the biggest issue.
  • No alcohol served. I guess it will allow lower business class fares if you don't offer bottomless Dom, but but is a deterrent to a lot of people. Alcohol in duty free shops at KWI would also be good.

I always hated Kuwait airways and stopped flying them even for short hops, but have seen their newer fleet and rebrand and I will probably try them again.

The proposed IAD/MAN/ORD routes are also quiet considering people expected them in July/August. I know we are only a few days into August but if an announcement was 'imminent' you would think that we would be hearing at least snippets by now?

It would be really nice to see ME3 becoming ME4

Could the airline and airport ever compete with the ME3 and/or Oman?

KU's complete W17 schedule with frequency/capacity changes should be uploaded on the gds system by this Friday hopefully so expect to see stuff then but no long haul additions. Just capacity/frequency changes.

KWI airport has over the past year become quite decent and transit friendly. I've flown through it three times over the past year and compared to what state it was in 2007, it has improved considerably.

Kuwait airways has improved a lot, That said Kuwait Government does not want KAC to be a major international airline, Instead a wants a reliable airline that well connects Kuwait to the world, KAC is getting a beautiful new dedicated terminal that will be fully operational in first q 2018, KWI T2 will be a 5 star airport and will open in 2020, As for alcohol and Israeli passengers both not going to happen, currently KWI has good amount places to eat and drink example shak shak burgers, MccDonald's , Starbucks, Pinkberry, and lots of other options.
