LH Cargo D-ALCM Status

Tue Jan 24, 2017 7:16 pm

Hi,

Back on 10th of November, LH Cargo MD-11 D-ALCM had a nose gear separation in Buenos Aires which disabled the aircraft on the runway. Since then I couldn't find any other flight from it on Flightradar24.com.

Does anyone know the status of it? Is it going to be repaired or is it a WO?

Thanks,
744lover

I apparently checked it today as I was searching for another LH Cargo aircraft on FR24 and saw that it departed EZE today and is heading to a destination in western USA, maybe VCV? I don't know how big the damage/hole is...

EDIT: It is currently cruising at FL430, so if that hole would not have been repaired correctly, I would presume that they wouldn't cruise at such a flightlevel, but I guess we will see it in a few hours.

Hmm, does the GEC flight number indicate that LH doesn't own it any more?

Presumably it was a write off and the insurance company ended up owning it?

GEC was the old code for "German Cargo" which then became Lufthansa Cargo.

Wow... Talk about a coincidence...

Anyway, it is possible that LH will do future repairs on the bird in VCV. Back in 2009 when D-ALCO suffered a hard landing in MEX Lufthansa did minimal repairs there and then flew unpresurized to VCV for future repairs...

Let's see what happens with the last delivered MD-11

I agree that this bird is not done or it would have been junked at the incident location and not flown to VCV

They most likely repaired it enough to sell it for scrap at VCV

Can't be, as GERMAN CARGO is the callsign for AeroLogic (BOX).

I know that, ATC sees GEC and sometimes call them German Cargo.

Actually D-ALCM is not the last delivered MD-11. It's her sister D-ALCN :wink2:

They most likely repaired it enough to sell it for scrap at VCV

D-ALCM will undergo further repairs at VCV, so this aircraft is not for the scrappers.

Ahh, no, wait... We got it wrong. Actually 744lover was right: D-ALCM is the last delivered but D-ALCN is the last built.

D-ALCM - line number 645 - delivery date: 22. feb 2001
D-ALCN - line number 646 - delivery date: 25. jan 2001
