I don't know if it's been mentioned on here before but from July 5th American Airlines is going double daily PDX-CLT until at least November as of now. First flight leaves around 11:40a and then the current red eye leaves around 10:20

The long-awaited Delta PDX-LHR nonstop begins Friday, albeit only 4 days a week and seasonal. Icelandair goes to 6 days a week next month, Condor @ 4 days a week.

Are there any days this summer where we will see all 4 Europe flights flying out of PDX?

Looks like next Wednesday, 31 May, is the first day with all four departing from PDX.

Per the "AM/DL to add 5 new US-MX routes in fall 2017" thread:

According to FlightGlobal's Edward Russell, Aeromexico and Delta will add the following routes in the coming months:

Atlanta-Merida
Atlanta Queretaro
Los Angeles-Leon
Seatle-Mexico City
Portland-Mexico City

Guesses on which carrier it will be on? DL or AM?

Frankly, I'm surprised to see PDX on there.

Currently driving around the Baltics after doing PDX-KEF-HEL.

Not a bad way to go compared to PDX-AMS-XXX.
I was terrified that losing Delta option (I'm loyal to AS still) would hurt, but it is possible to get around.
Using Condor PDX-FRA-XXX in September, and that was tough to plan around with 3x weekly service and different departure times each day....

Will hopefully try PDX-LHR anyway next year, do hope it sticks around (even though I wish BA was doing it....)

Will be awesome to see 4x Europe flights leave on the same day!!!

I think Condor is great, but the schedule is crap. I love that we finally have LHR n/s, but BA would be so much better. Seasonal seems pointless as I've said many times.

Condor is nothing more than a vacation package airline. If you aren't buying the package it is not going to be optimized for you.

I bought business class r/t on Condor.. the price is SOO reasonable... (not a stellar product, but wanted those Alaska EQMs!!).
Schedule sucks, and agree with all the schedule and seasonality issues mentioned.

I take what I can get, and I'm sticking with Alaska Mileage Plan. International EQMs are what get me to Gold (or maybe 75K this year...)
Sure as heck not connecting in the US to Europe then connecting again.
So, this is what it takes for now :/

My guess is it will be AM operating PDX-MEX. AM will be able to get the AS feed from PDX.

Good connections @ MEX to some cities in Central and South America on Aeromexico too: Bogota, Lima, Buenos Aires, San Jose, Cancun. This will be the 4th nonstop to Mexico from PDX: Alaska (winter/spring) to Cabo, Puerto Vallarta; Volaris to Guadalajara. Volaris has been adding capacity.

Tokyo: Delta 767
Toronto: Air Canada E190

Has to be the most since the 90's when DL had their transpacific hub at PDX.

Actually, I think it could be a comparable number of single-day international passengers total than was typical in the mid-to-late 90's Delta peak. I don't think DL ever operated more than 4 daily Asian routes at one time (although over the course of their hub experiment they served additional destinations). That was 4 MD11 or L1011 flights per day. On May 31 we'll have 3x767, 1x757, and 1xA333. Probably a similar number of oversees pax as in the DL days. If there's more traffic on May 31 from Mexico and Canada than we saw in the 90s, then it's possible PDX could set a new single-day international passenger record.

What a wonderful surprise to come home too!! I do know that Mexico city along with Paris, and a point in China were the international destinations that the POP has been targeting. Looks like one down and two to go...On a side note, I'm anxiously waiting to see what else AS has in store for it's PDX hub. :stirthepot: :stirthepot: :stirthepot:

From AS they will continue to connect dots in the VX/AS network, I am hoping for PDX-FLL & maybe a new city add. I'd love to see PDX-KOA go year round as well as at least one of our current summer adds to stay as well.

Pdx-mex should do well since Aeromexico partners with Alaska.
Not sure Alaska will be thrilled to route customers that way, but it's the only way I'll take the flight.

Think some of us will explore using pdx-mex-xxx for Central America and or South America as well compared to American.

Hey guys, it was discussed already here in the Oregon thread, yesterday it got quite a few comments, look above your own posts.

It looks like flyoregon was the first to take the details from another thread & post them in the Oregon thread for you to view. Before it was confirmed AM metal.

Less than ten minutes later flyoregon posted this official release:

Then 1 1/2 hours later flyoregon posted the proposed times for the SEA & PDX routes.

AM495 SEA 2230 MEX 0555+

So yes, you are correct, if it were not for flyoregon, this may have missed this thread, LOL!

I hope AM can make this work, the tie in with AS is going to be a big shot in the arm for the flight, AM will need to provide many connections out of MEX that are popular for Oregonians, connections will likely be the lions share of traffic on the AM flight. The VFR of course is there, but the vast majority of our Mexican population have originated from the Jalisco region of Mexico, which is why Y4 has increased their weekly offerings to GDL.

We now have non-stops to 4 destinations in Mexico from PDX, There are only 3 non-stops to destinations in Canada from PDX.

I wish I was on that flight! I'll be flying out this afternoon to Seattle on Delta and hope to see some of the festivities that POP/Delta puts on for the inaugural flight.

Side note, I noticed that Delta has 62 flights today at PDX. Busy day for Delta!! Closing in on SWA for 2nd biggest operator at PDX flights wise, maybe not as close in passenger count.

PDX-DEN is still a gaping hole, despite the competitive environment on the route.

Would also really like to see PDX-IAH on AS.

PDX-Houston Hobby would be good considering WN is eliminating the route this fall. As for South Florida, AA to MIA would be better than B6 to FLL. JetBlue doesn't seem interested in PDX-Florida anyway.

Only way PDX-Hobby happens is if AS dumps IAH completely and moves all ops to Hobby. Frankly IAH is a much superior airport...AS moves quite a few interline connections to Central and South America through IAH.

AS has just 2 flights to IAH? SEA has 10 flights total to IAH, PDX has 2. Seems way out of balance but typical, especially for United. I guess they expect us to go through Denver.

AS needs to start flowing more connecting pax over PDX with the SEA space issues. No reason ANC-SEA needs to be 22 times a day for connecting pax. No difference connecting in PDX for most.

I've thought this for years. I will always choose connecting in PDX over SEA if I can help it. I generally loathe Sea-Tac airport.

I agree although I doubt you'll see AS cede any SEA market share to already encroaching DL.

Wonderful addition by Aero Mexico for PDX-MEX non-stops. I'm with BlatantEcho as far as the route being utilized by PNW passengers who are traveling to points south of Mexico City. It makes sense that one would travel PDX-MEX and then connect for destinations such as Costa Rica, Belize, Cancun and other points in Central/South America.

As mentioned previously the new AM/DL Mexico routes are being discussed in another thread. I did challenge one individual in their posting who was questioning why AM/DL would add PDX-MEX and that the route essentialy made "less sense". I want to say but I'm not 100% certain...didn't PDX have prior service to Mexico City years ago thru Mexicana? If so I believe that was just prior to Mexicana ceasing operations. I'm confident that this new route will be a success over time. Another great add for the Port of Portland!

70th anniversary of the first commercial flights from CEC. (I'm posting this here as the only flights from CEC is to PDX)

From the pages of the May 23, 1947, Del Norte Triplicate:

The first regularly scheduled airline flights from the Del Norte County Airport will begin Monday when the Transcalair Company’s twin-engined Cessna takes off on its maiden hop, the “business man’s special,” between here and Eureka.

The flight will be the first in a schedule of twice-weekly round trip jaunts to the southern city. It will leave Crescent City at 9:15 a.m., arriving at 9:45. The trip includes free cab service from the airport to downtown Eureka and will cost passengers $10 for the round trip or $6.25 for a one-way ride. (Editor’s note: $10 in 1947 is $110 in 2017 value.)

In the afternoon the plane will leave Eureka at 5:30 p.m. and arrive in Crescent City at 6 p.m. It will then leave the local airport at 6:15 p.m. and arrive in Eureka at 6:45 p.m. Flights will be made on Mondays and Fridays.

The Transcalair service will connect with Southwest and United Airlines. Five passengers will be permitted 50 pounds of baggage apiece on the hop.

Though the airline will carry passengers at all times, it intends to concentrate on freight shipments from Del Norte by air.

The airline is operated entirely by veteran flyers, three army and three navy men, who have gained their experience on battlefields and in war transport service.

Mexicana flew PDX-GDL. I think the flight started in 2003. I'm not sure how long it continued. I don't think any airline has flown PDX-MEX before. MEX is becoming a much more popular cultural tourism destination recently.
It has been mentioned that the AM-AS partnership will help with this flight, but in several other forums, that partnership is looking strained, and is seen as coming to an end, much as the AS-DL partnership just did.

Aeromexico is now 49% owned by Delta. I doubt they'll be any cooperation between Alaska and anything Sky Team.

Sun Country 8711 Portland-Denver. Is this a new route or a one-time?

I'm sorry if this was said before, but I will say it:

PDX isn't going to get much expansion soon.
Before buying VX, AS was already in an accelerating turf war with DL in SEA. Any slot they took out of SEA in favor of PDX was a slot Delta could waltz in and nab.
Now, with the VX network, they're trying to build up SFO as a robust hub (bigger than the combined VX and AS ops presently). Since they're growing in SFO, and can't shrink in SEA, that means PDX can't be given much growth, at least for now. Maybe PDX will get its well-deserved growth once SFO levels off.

It's not a slot controlled airport. Every redundant flight they move from sea to PDx means they can build something else up or start a new route.

Not slots per se, but there are points of gate usage, runways, and whatnot

I'm not saying to reduce flight count at SEA. We just have no reason to connect 22 times a day In SEA so other flights could use those gates.

With space constraints at SEA I'm not really sure how much more AS can keep growing there. I'm not too familiar with SEA but from everything I've read it seems as though it's pretty packed.
It would make sense to keep growing PDX as long as the market allows for it. I don't see why they couldn't do this while simultaneously growing SFO. How many unserved markets are left that can AS can realistically add? Aside from a handful of glaring holes I don't think there are too many.

The question is whether AS can get planes to hold the gates for other flights, which of course depends on how aggressive their SFO plan is
